Idiopathic condylar resorption (ICR) is a condition in which either one or both condyles undergo degeneration. Bilateral TMJ involvement presents as a clockwise rotation of the mandible in the posterior-inferior direction, resulting in an anterior open bite. The purpose of the study was to assess TMJ condylar degeneration in dental open bites compared to skeletal open bites.

Periostin is a secreted, extracellular matrix (ECM) protein widely expressed within collagen-rich fibrous connective tissues of the body including the periodontal ligament (PDL), bone, skin, heart, and cornea. Periostin has been shown to serve many important regulatory functions including cell adhesion, cell motility, wound healing and of particular importance to the dental field, differentiation of osteoblasts. The deletion of periostin compromises osteoblast attachment to bone matrix and induces a reduction in mineralization and expression of bone markers, including type I collagen, osteocalcin, osteopontin and alkaline phosphatase. Root resorption is a frequent unwanted occurrence during orthodontic treatment. Biological factors include the quantity of specific inflammatory mediators, growth factors, and hormones as well as an individual’s specific alleles for the genes encoding these mediators. Studies have shown an association between external apical root resorption (EARR) and the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) at +3954 of the IL-1β gene. Studies have also shown associations between chronic periodontitis and IL-1β gene polymorphisms in the region of +3954, -511 and -31. The formation of dental caries (cavities) is a complex, multi-dimensional process that necessarily involves many risk factors – including the acquisition and colonization of cariogenic oral bacteria. The most frequently associated oral pathogens are the acid-producing and acid-tolerant oral streptococcus species, such as Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans or SM). Many studies have established and confirmed the critical role of the formation of biofilm in the virulence of S. mutans, and the critical role this may play in determining the balance of the oral microbiome towards health or disease.

Orthodontic tooth movement requires coordinated bone resorption and deposition in response to mechanical stimuli. Underlying this process is a complex network of biological signaling to activate osteoclasts and osteoblasts. The broad category of small proteins known as cytokines include many potential mediators involved in complex interactions to initiate tooth movement. One of the signaling factors is interleukin-1β (IL-1β), which plays a critical role in inflammation and bone erosion via the activation of osteoclasts. A voluntary simple survey was used to assess the following: dental hygiene students’ exposure to and knowledge about underserved populations and nontraditional roles for dental hygienists, students’ favor or opposition toward these nontraditional roles, students’ interest in nontraditional roles, and students’ perceived preparedness to work outside of a traditional dental office in nontraditional roles to provide care for underserved populations. The purpose of this study was to investigate the biocompatibility and micromechanical properties of newly synthesized antibacterial monomer and cross-linker functional surfactants into a commercially available dental adhesive (Single Bond, 3M ESPE, Saint Paul, MN, USA) at three concentrations (0.05, 0.1, 0.25 mg/mg). All groups were analyzed by evaluation of micro-tensile bond strength, ultimate tensile strength, cell viability, antibacterial properties, and surface micro-hardness. The purpose of this study is to better understand how combining thickness and translucency affects the post-cementation shade of IPS e.max CAD overlaying a dark substrate, thereby enabling clinicians to choose more appropriate techniques and materials. IPS e.max CADs (A1 shade) had either a low translucency (LT) or high translucency (HT), and cut with 0.3mm, 0.5mm, and 1.0mm thicknesses. Background: Effective pain management is an essential component in the perioperative care of surgical patients. However, post-operative pain after maxillofacial fracture repair and its optimal therapy has not been described in detail.

Materials and Methods: In a prospective cohort study, 95 adults rated their pain on the first postoperative day after maxillofacial fracture repair using the questionnaire of the Quality Improvement in Postoperative Pain Management (QUIPS) project. Quality Improvement in Postoperative Pain Management allowed for a standardized assessment of patients’ characteristics and pain- related parameters.

The purpose of this study was to determine the state of the implementation and usage of EDRs and digital radiographs by the private general and pediatric dental practices in Mississippi as well as reasons why the dental practices are not moving forward with the advanced technology.

Currently, dental articulators can recreate mandibular movements and occlusal contacts. However, whether virtual articulators can also provide information about occluding dental surfaces, functional movements, and the mandibular condyles is unclear.

The use of LED light-curing units (LED LCUs) for polymerising resin-based composite restorations has become widespread throughout dentistry. Unfortunately, there is a paucity of clinical longitudinal studies that evaluate the comparative efficacy of LED-based polymerisation in direct posterior composite restorations.
