Class III malocclusion treatment is challenging to orthodontists because of its genetic basis and tendency for relapse following treatment. In adult patients, this malocclusion can be treated by either camouflage or combined orthodontic and surgical treatment. Since there are complexity in several aspects for Class III malocclusion, particularly in the case where the surgery is required, the aim of this review was to gather information concerning the etiologies, treatment strategies, and treatment considerations, especially for the orthognathic surgical treatment of skeletal Class III patients.

Localized juvenile spongiotic gingival hyperplasia (LJSGH) is a recently discovered oral lesion in children and young adults, which can be misdiagnosed with gingivitis associated with dental plaque and other well recognized reactive lesions. Clinically, JSGH presents as bright red gingival overgrowth with papillary surface, most commonly at attached and marginal gingivae of the upper anterior region. Differential diagnoses may include pyogenic granuloma, peripheral giant cell granuloma, peripheral ossifying fibroma and hyperplastic gingival inflammation. Histologically distinctive, JSGH is characterized by non-keratinizing stratified squamous epithelium with papillary architecture, intense neutrophilic exocytosis and spongiosis. The objective was to design and fabricate a dental surveyor using fewer complicated custom made industrial metal parts, thus minimizing production cost. The product design allows working with dental casts of varied dimensions. Current products were analyzed using machine design synthesis. The components of the new surveyor design are predominantly prefabricated objects. The formulation method is comparable with an inverse kinematic engineering approach. This study compared tooth length measurements made on cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans and 3-Tesla (3T) magnetic resonance (MR) scans performed with and without an alginate bite registration surrounding the crowns of the teeth. Materials and Methods. One CBCT scan, one MR scan with alginate bite registration, and one MR scan without bite registration were performed on 12 subjects. Statement of problem

Two novel restorative materials, a polymer infiltrated ceramic network (PICN) and a resin nanoceramic (RNC), for computer-assisted design and computer-assisted manufacturing (CAD-CAM) applications have recently become commercially available. Little independent evidence regarding their mechanical properties exists to facilitate material selection.

Purpose

The purpose of this in vitro study was to measure the edge chipping resistance and flexural strength of the PICN and RNC materials and compare them with 2 commonly used feldspathic ceramic (FC) and leucite reinforced glass-ceramic (LRGC) CAD-CAM materials that share the same clinical indications.

The objectives of this study were to compare the effect of SRP+MM versus SRP alone on inflammatory cytokines, interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-1 receptor antagonist (ra), found in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) and saliva, and correlate IL-1 values with clinical outcomes over a 2-year period of PMT. Fifty-five patients with an initial posterior pocket ≥5 mm and history of bleeding on probing (BOP) were randomized to test (SRP+MM, n=27) and control (SRP, n=28) groups. This study evaluated ascending order of light attenuation distance (0, 2, 4, 8 mm) and specimen dimensions (2 × 2 × 10, 2 × 2 × 12, 2 × 2 × 15 mm3) differing from requirements of ISO 4049 (2 × 2 × 25 mm3) on the flexural strength of nano-hybrid resin composite. Specimens (N = 160) were prepared accordingly and randomly assigned into groups for the factors studied. Despite recent advances unraveling mechanisms of host–pathogen interactions in innate immunity, the participation of purinergic signaling in infection-driven inflammation remains an emerging research field with many unanswered questions. As one of the most-studied oral pathogens, Porphyromonas gingivalis is considered as a keystone pathogen with a central role in development of periodontal disease. This pathogen needs to evade immune-mediated defense mechanisms and tolerate inflammation in order to survive in the host. Peptoanaerobacter stomatis is a newly appreciated taxon, present in high numbers in oral biofilms from periodontal patients. However, little is known about this organism’s potential virulence and its interaction with the host immune response. Therefore, to better understand the role of P. stomatis in periodontitis, we studied its interactions with neutrophils. Human neutrophils were challenged with P. stomatis strain CM2 or S. aureus AF488 (positive control) for 30 min. Bacterial internalization was examined by ImageStreamX imaging flow cytometry. Some of these factors, like major proteases referred to as gingipains, are secreted by a unique secretion system called PerioGate or Type IX Secretion System (T9SS). T9SS consists of a number of membrane and periplasmic proteins, which provide transportation only for proteins that possess a conserved C-terminal domain (CTD). Chitosan (CS), hydroxyapatite (HA), and magnetite (Fe₃O₄) have been broadly employed for bone treatment applications. Having a hybrid biomaterial composed of the aforementioned constituents not only accumulates the useful characteristics of each component, but also provides outstanding composite properties.
