Dental Management For Patients With Molar Incisor Hypomineralization: 3 Cases, Sarunporn Luangchaichaweng, Poonsak Pisek, Patimaporn Pungchanchaikul Sep 2013

Dental Management For Patients With Molar Incisor Hypomineralization: 3 Cases, Sarunporn Luangchaichaweng, Poonsak Pisek, Patimaporn Pungchanchaikul

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal

Molar incisor hypominieralization (MIH) is one of the developmental enamel defects. The lesion, which has less inorganic deposition than surrounding normal enamel, usually involves one or more of the first permanent molars and may involve the upper incisors. Etiology is not clear at the present. Several reports suggest an increasing prevalence in Thailand and all over the world. Enamel lesions are brittle, which lead to breaking down and subsequently, rapid progressiveness of dental caries. Diagnosis given immediately after the eruption is crucial for prevention and restoration of the affected molars, in order to prevent tooth loss. However, for the tooth …

Role Of Ppar-Γ In Regulating Osteoclastogenesis, Wantida Sriarj Sep 2013

Role Of Ppar-Γ In Regulating Osteoclastogenesis, Wantida Sriarj

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal

Osteoclasts are cells that play a crucial role in bone remodeling. These cells are derived from monocyte-macrophage lineage of hematopoietic stem cells in bone marrow. RANK-RANKL interaction has been demonstrated to be a key mechanism of osteoclastogenesis, however, recent reports revealed the novel role of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ) in the regulation of osteoclast formation. In this review, the novel function of PPAR-γ in osteoclastogenesis will be discussed. Generally, PPAR-γ has been known to play a role in metabolism of glucose and lipid, including promotes adipocyte differentiation and inhibits osteoblast differentiation. Evidence suggested that PPAR-γ could also work in …

Light-Curing Units In Dentistry, Pimmada Kesrak, Chalermpol Leevailoj Sep 2013

Light-Curing Units In Dentistry, Pimmada Kesrak, Chalermpol Leevailoj

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal

Nowadays, a wide variety of light-curing dental materials has been developed extensively, such as restorative materials, adhesives and resin cements. Therefore, the light-curing unit is an important equipment in dental practice, resulting in the development of various light curing units, which have a different wavelength and intensity of light. Appropriate light intensity is fundamental for the polymerization of the material, to develop satisfactory physical properties and also to evaluate performance of the light-curing units. This review article presents the development of light-curing units, light intensity and factors affecting light intensity of light-curing units.

Effect Of Lipopolysaccharide From Porphyromonas Gingivalis On Expression Of Heparanase In Human Gingival Epithelial Cell Line, Ca9-22, Kasekarn Kasevayuth, Katarzyna Anna Podyma-Inoue, Masaki Yanagishita

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal

Objective The progression of chronic periodontitis depends partly on a direct invasion ability of Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) against host cell supporting tissue and/or degradation of host extracellular matrix by the inflammatory response elicited by the bacteria. The aim of this study was to investigate the stimulation of host cells by lipopolysaccharides from P. gingivalis (Pg-LPS) using a human gingival epithelial cell line, Ca9-22, as a model system for the latter mechanism. Materials and methods In this study, we treated Ca9-22 cells with various concentrations (0, 0.1, 1 and 10 μg/mL) of Pg-LPS for 24h and extracted the mRNA. We …

Hemagiopericytoma And Solitary Fibrous Tumor: A Diagnostic Consideration, Pornpop Rattana-Arpha, Ekarat Phattarataratip May 2013

Hemagiopericytoma And Solitary Fibrous Tumor: A Diagnostic Consideration, Pornpop Rattana-Arpha, Ekarat Phattarataratip

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal

Hemangiopericytoma is regarded as a benign neoplasm originating from the pericyte, a contractile cell surrounding small blood vessels. Historically, the histopathologic diagnosis of hemangiopericytoma was based solely on the presence of thin-walled staghorn branching vessels surrounded by numerous round-to-spindle monomorphic tumor cells. However, more studies have emerged raising the skepticism of the nature of the pericyte itself as well as the existence of this tumor. Current concept of the diagnosis of this tumor has significantly changed as acknowledged by the recent WHO classification of soft tissue tumors. Most tumors previously diagnosed as hemangiopericytoma were reclassified into other tumor groups, the …

Periodontal And Endodontic Treatments Of A Maxillary First Molar Fused With Supernumerary Tooth, Chalermkwan Phuvoravan, Supattharachai Bongsununt

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal

Fused teeth are rare occurrence. Careful management of fused teeth is essential because abnormal morphology can predispose a tooth to periodontal disease and pulp necrosis. This case report presented the endodontic and periodontic management of supernumerary tooth fused with the right maxillary first molar. The pulp chambers of the maxillary first molar and supernumerary tooth were accessed. Clinical examination showed joined pulp chambers and root canals. A conventional endodontic treatment was performed. Anatomical groove of fused roots between the maxillary first molar and supernumerary tooth was sealed with glass ionomer cement. A 1 year follow-up showed satisfactory healing of periapical …
