Immediate Implant Placement In Extraction Sites With Periapical Lesions: A Retrospective Study, Yuan-Lung Hung

Immediate implant placement into fresh extraction sites has become a relatively routine clinical procedure with a favorable prognosis. However, immediate placement into extraction sockets with lesions has not been extensively documented in humans. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to retrospectively determine the survival rate of implants placed into extraction sockets with visible periapical lesions.

Patient charts of 544 immediately placed implants from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, Center for Prosthodontics and Implant Dentistry were examined. Multiple studies have shown that ectopic bone forms when bone morphogenic proteins (for example BMP-2 and BMP-7) and a collagen matrix are surgically placed in a rat model either orthotopically or heterotopically. Bone begins to form by the 14 day, and is at it maximum calcified state by the 21st day. Maxillary palatal expansion has long been used in orthodontics as a means of correcting constricted and collapsed dental arches. The quadhelix appliance, developed by Drs. Robert Ricketts and Ruel Bench, expands buccal segments and causes distobuccal rotation in upper first molars. The objective of this study was to assess the direct effects that the quadhelix appliance on the surrounding dentition and buccal bone in the maxillary premolar and molar areas in a finite, measurable manner. A 26-year-old male presented with a 2-month history of a mildly painful, slow growing, nodular mass of the submental region. Examination revealed a 1.5 x 1.0-cm midline swelling of the submental region. The skin over the mass appeared normal. The mass was firm and slightly tender on palpation and appeared to be positioned within the submental space. Intraoral examination did not reveal any obvious pathologic findings and the nearby teeth showed no caries, periodontal disease, or mobility. The patient’s medical history was unremarkable.

Purpose

The Vitrea 2 imaging software (Vital Images Inc, Minnetonka, MN) was used for the volume analysis of the proximal tibial metaphysis.

Materials and Methods

Eighteen computed tomography scans of the proximal tibia were processed through the software, and 3-dimensional imaging of the proximal tibia was reconstructed.

Results

The volume and area of the proximal tibia that were generated resulted in a mean area of 127 cm² and a mean volume of 77.2 cm².

Purpose: The addition of anionic charge on denture base resins has been shown to inhibit Candida albicans adhesion and to facilitate adsorption of salivary defense molecules. The aim of this study was to evaluate the physical properties of a modified denture base resin for denture fabrication.

Materials and Methods: Specimens made from heat polymerizing resin Lucitone 199 were used as the control group. The two experimental groups, E-10 and E-20, had 10% and 20%, respectively, of the monomer substituted with an experimental phosphate-containing monomer. This study determined the extrinsic tooth stain removing effectiveness of a 90° counter-rotational disposable prophylaxis angle (DPA) with rubber cup compared to the traditional 360° unirotational DPA with rubber cup. Four randomly-assigned groups of cleaned, sterilized, extracted human teeth, artificially stained with coffee, tea, tobacco, and red wine, were polished on the buccal and lingual surfaces using one of the 2 DPAs. Cold plasma is a state of matter that contains a large number of particles that are electrically charged. Plasmas generate chemically reactive species and ultraviolet radiation making them useful in decontamination applications (Kong & Laroussi, 2003). Research regarding the inactivation of gram-positive bacteria by cold plasma has been studied by Laroussi et al (2003); however, there is limited research regarding the germicidal effectiveness of cold plasma on Geobacillus stearothermophilus and Bacillus cereus microorganisms. วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อวิเคราะห์ค่าความถี่สั่นพ้องที่ 1 และ ที่ 2 ของสระ 5 เสียงได้แก่ อะ อิ อุเอะ โอะ และคํานวณ ค่าช่วงกว้างที่สุดระหว่างความถี่สั่นพ้องที่ 1 และระหว่างความถี่สั่นพ้องที่ 2 ในอาสาสมัครชายไทยที่ไม่มีความพิการในช่องปาก วัสดุและวิธีการ บันทึกเสียงสระ 5 เสียงได้แก่ อะ อิ อุ เอะ โอะ ของอาสาสมัครจากคณะทันตแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ และจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย จํานวนทั้งสิ้น 67 คน ด้วยเครื่องบันทึกระบบดิจิทัล วิเคราะห์ เสียงสระทั้ง 5 เสียงของแต่ละคนด้วยโปรแกรมมัลติ-สปช 3700 และด้วยวิธีการเข้ารหัสการทํานายแบบเชิงเส้น เพื่อหาความถี่สั่นพ้องที่ 1 และที่ 2 จากนั้นคํานวณค่าช่วงกว้างที่สุดระหว่างความถี่สั่นพ้องที่ 1 และระหว่าง ความถี่สั่นพ้องที่ 2 ตามลําดับ ผลการศึกษา ค่าความถี่สั่นพ้องที่ 1 และที่ 2 ของสระทั้ง 5 เสียงของอาสาสมัครทั้งสองกลุ่มไม่มีความแตกต่าง กันอย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ เมื่อรวมข้อมูลทั้งสองกลุ่มเข้าด้วยกันพบว่าค่าเฉลี่ยความถี่สั่นพ้องที่ 1 และที่ 2 มีค่าสูงที่สุดอยู่ที่เสียง อะ (706.17 เฮิร์ทซ์) และ อิ (2011.16 เฮิร์ทซ์) ตามลําดับ ส่วนค่าต่ําที่สุดของความถี่ สั่นพ้องที่ 1 และที่ 2 อยู่ที่เสียง อุ (282.94 เฮิร์ทซ์) และ โคะ (914.98 เฮิร์ทซ์) ตามลําดับ คํานวณช่วง ความกว้างที่สุดระหว่างความถี่สั่นพ้องที่ 1 และระหว่างความถี่สั่นพ้องที่ 2 ของเสียงสระทั้ง 5 เสียงจะมีค่าเท่ากับ 423.23 เฮิร์ทซ์ และ 1096.18 เฮิร์ทซ์ …

Cdna Cloning And Nucleotide Sequencing Of Human Connective Tissue Growth Factor Obtained From Primary Pulpal Fibroblasts, Pasutha Thunyakitpisal

Objective To clone human connective tissue growth factor (hCTGF) from pulpal fibroblasts. Materials and methods Primary human pulpal fibroblasts were isolated from pulpal tissues. The reverse transcriptase-PCR assay was used to amplify the cDNA of hCTGF. The amplified PCR products were ligated into the TOPO R cloning vector and transformed into competent bacteria cells. The putative clones were bidirectionally sequenced to analyze nucleotide sequence and compare with hCTGF cDNA sequence references. Results From RT-PCR reaction, expression of CTGF mRNA was detected in human pulpal fibroblast. วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อศึกษาประสิทธิภาพของการดื่มน้ํา การเคี้ยวฝรั่ง หรือการเคี้ยวแตงกวา ในการลดภาวะกลิ่นปาก เหม็นชั่วคราวที่เกิดขึ้นภายหลังการรับประทานกระเทียม วัสดุและวิธีการ กลุ่มตัวอย่าง 12 คน (ชาย 6 คน หญิง 6 คน อายุ 18-20 ปี) ทดลองโดยการดื่มน้ํา เดี๋ยวฝรั่ง หรือเคี้ยวแตงกวา ภายหลังการรับประทานกระเทียม โดยให้กลุ่มควบคุมรับประทานกระเทียมเพียงอย่างเดียววัดระดับความเข้มข้นของไอระเหยของสารประกอบซัลเฟอร์ในช่องปากด้วยเครื่องฮาลิมิเตอร์ โดยวัดก่อนการรับ ประทานกระเทียม และที่เวลา 0 และ 30 นาทีหลังการทดลอง คํานวณระดับความเข้มข้นที่เพิ่มขึ้นหลังการ รับประทานกระเทียมและหลังการทดลอง แล้วเปรียบเทียบระดับความเข้มข้นที่เพิ่มขึ้นระหว่างกลุ่มทดลองกับกลุ่มควบคุมโดยใช้สถิติการวิเคราะห์ความแปรปรวนทางเดียวและการเปรียบเทียบพหุคูณ ที่ระดับนัยสําคัญ .05 ผลการศึกษา ที่เวลา 0 นาทีหลังการทดลอง การดื่มน้ํา การเคี้ยวฝรั่ง หรือการเคี้ยวแตงกวา สามารถลดระดับ ความเข้มข้นที่เพิ่มขึ้นภายหลังการรับประทานกระเทียมได้อย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ (ค่า เท่ากับ 022 008 และ 010 ตามลําดับ) ส่วนที่เวลา 30 นาทีหลังการทดลอง ระดับความเข้มข้นที่เพิ่มขึ้นของทุกกลุ่มทดลองไม่แตกต่าง อย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติกับกลุ่มควบคุม สรุป การดื่มน้ํา การเคี้ยวฝรั่ง หรือการเคี้ยวแตงกวาทันทีภายหลังการรับประทานกระเทียม มีประสิทธิภาพในการลดภาวะกลิ่นปากเหม็นชั่วคราวที่เกิดจากการรับประทานกระเทียม (2 ทันต จุฬาฯ 2550:30:245-54)

วัสดุบูรณะฟันที่ดีควรจะมีสีและคุณสมบัติเหมือนฟันธรรมชาติ มีความเข้ากันได้ดีทางชีวภาพ ทนทาน ต่อการกัดกร่อนและเป็นฉนวน ปัจจุบัน มีการใช้วัสดุบูรณะเซรามิกซึ่งเป็นวัสดุที่มีสีเหมือนฟันธรรมชาติเป็นวัสดุ บูรณะฟันกันมากขึ้น เนื่องจากมีการพัฒนาทางด้านการผลิตร่วมกับการพัฒนาวัสดุระบบยึดติด ทําให้การบูรณะด้วยเซรามิกมีความแข็งแรงและมีคุณสมบัติดียิ่งขึ้น บทความนี้ได้รวบรวมข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับวัสดุบูรณะเซรามิกระบบ ต่าง ๆ ตามการพัฒนา เริ่มตั้งแต่ระบบเซรามิกชนิดผงกับน้ําแบบดั้งเดิม เซรามิกชนิดหล่อ เซรามิกชนิดอัดความดัน เซรามิกชนิดอินฟิลเตรด และเซรามิกชนิดแมคซีนเนเบิล รวมทั้งขั้นตอนการลองชิ้นงาน การเตรียมเพื่อการยึดติดและการยึดติดวัสดุบูรณะเซรามิกกับฟันในคลินิก เพื่อเป็นข้อมูลให้ทันตแพทย์สามารถเลือกใช้งานทางคลินิกได้อย่างเหมาะสม (ว ทันต จุฬาฯ 2550;30:325-36)

ปัจจัยที่มีความสัมพันธ์กับความเครียด ในหน้าที่การงานของทันตแพทย์ไทย, ชาญชัย ให้สงวน

วัตถุประสงค์ ความเครียดในการทํางานมีผลกระทบต่อคุณภาพบริการและความตั้งใจโยกย้ายงานของทันตบุคลากร การศึกษานี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อประเมินความเครียดในการทํางานของทันตแพทย์ไทยและระบุปัจจัยที่เกี่ยวข้อง วัสดุและวิธีการ แบบแผนการวิจัยเป็นการสํารวจภาคตัดขวาง ดําเนินการสุ่มตัวอย่างแบบเป็นระบบจาก ทันตแพทย์ทั่วประเทศ ใช้แบบสอบถามทางไปรษณีย์รวม 2 รอบ มีทันตแพทย์ส่งแบบสอบถามกลับคืน ซึ่งเป็น ทันตแพทย์ที่ยังปฏิบัติงานอยู่ จํานวน 733 คน ประเมินความเครียดของการทํางานทันตกรรมในรอบปี พ.ศ. 2547 ด้วยดัชนีความเครียดในหน้าที่การงาน ใช้เทคนิควิเคราะห์ความถดถอยเชิงพหุแบบขั้นตอนประเมินปัจจัยที่มี ความสัมพันธ์กับระดับความเครียดในการงาน ผลการศึกษา ทันตแพทย์ร้อยละ 31.7 มีความเครียดในการทํางานทันตกรรมตั้งแต่ระดับปานกลางขึ้นไป ผลการ วิเคราะห์ความถดถอยเชิงพหุ พบว่า ความคิดเห็นเกี่ยวกับปริมาณงานและความตั้งใจโยกย้ายงานมีความสัมพันธ์ เชิงบวกกับระดับความเครียดในทุกแบบจําลอง ขณะที่ความพึงพอใจต่อหน้าที่การงานมีความสัมพันธ์เชิงลบในทุก แบบจําลอง การปฏิบัติงานในภาคเอกชนมีความสัมพันธ์กับทุกมิติย่อยของดัชนีความเครียด แต่มีทิศทางทั้งบวก และลบ ปัจจัยอื่นที่มีความสัมพันธ์กับระดับความเครียด คือ จํานวนชั่วโมงปฏิบัติงาน และรายได้ สรุป การศึกษานี้ยืนยันถึงระดับความเครียดที่มีอยู่สูงในวิชาชีพทันตแพทย์ โดยเฉพาะในภาครัฐ แบบจําลอง ความเครียดสะท้อนให้เห็นถึงอิทธิพลของตัวแปรทั้งระดับปัจเจกบุคคลและระดับองค์กร (ว ทันต จุฬาฯ 2550;302255-68)

วัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อศึกษาฤทธิ์ต้านเชื้อแบคทีเรียของสารสกัดพอลิแซ็กคาไรด์เจลจากเปลือกทุเรียนต่อเชื้อสเตร็ปโต ค็อกคัสมิวแทนส์ และเชื้อแอกกรีเกทแบกเทอร์แอกทิโนไมซีเทมคอมแทนส์ ซึ่งมีส่วนในการก่อโรคฟันผุ และโรค ปริทันต์อักเสบ ตามลําดับ วัสดุและวิธีการ ทําการศึกษาโดยการเลี้ยงเชื้อแบคทีเรียสเตร็ปโตค็อกคัสมิวแทนส์ สายพันธุ์ ATCC 25175 และเชื้อแอกกรีเกทแบกเทอร์แอกทิโนไมซีเทมคอมแทนส์ สายพันธุ์ ATCC 43718 ในอาหารเลี้ยงเชื้อ ชนิดน้ําที่มีสารสกัดพอลิแซ็กคาไรด์เจลจากเปลือกทุเรียน ความเข้มข้นต่าง ๆ (50 100 และ 150 มก./มล.) เป็น เวลา 1 5 10 20 30 และ 60 นาที นําไปเลี้ยงต่อในอาหารเลี้ยงเชื้อชนิดวุ้นเป็นเวลา 48 ชั่วโมง แล้วจึงนับจํานวน เชื้อแบคทีเรียที่มีชีวิต เปรียบเทียบกับคลอร์เฮกซิตีนที่ความเข้มข้นร้อยละ 0.1 และอาหารเลี้ยงเชื้อที่ไม่ใส่สารสกัด ผลการศึกษา ในเวลา 1 นาที สารสกัดพอลิแซ็กคาไรด์จากเปลือกทุเรียนที่ความเข้มข้น 150 มก./มล. และ คลอร์เฮกซิดีนที่ความเข้มข้นร้อยละ 0.1 มีฤทธิ์ฆ่าเชื้อสเตร็ปโตค็อกคัสมิวแทนส์ และเชื้อแอกกรีเกทแบกเทอร์ แอกทิโนไมซีเทมคอมแทนส์ ในขณะที่สารสกัดที่ความเข้มข้น 100 มก./มล. มีฤทธิ์ฆ่าเชื้อสเตร็ปโตค็อกคัสมิวแทนส์และยับยั้งเชื้อแอกกริเกทแบกเทอร์แอกทิโนไมซีเทมคอมแทนส์ ตามลําดับ ส่วนสารสกัดที่ความเข้มข้น 50 มก./มล. มีฤทธิ์ฆ่าเชื้อแบคทีเรียทั้งสองชนิด ในเวลา 60 นาที สรุป ในเวลา 1 นาที สารสกัดพอลิแซ็กคาไรด์เจลจากเปลือกทุเรียนที่ความเข้มข้น 100 และ 150 มก./มล. สามารถฆ่าเชื้อสเตร็ปโตค็อกคัสมิวแทนส์ และเชื้อแอกกรีเกทแบกเทอร์แอกทิโนไมซีเทมคอมแทนส์ ตามลําดับแสดงให้เห็นว่าสารสกัดชนิดนี้อาจพัฒนาเป็นสารออกฤทธิ์หลักในผลิตภัณฑ์ทางทันตกรรมเพื่อควบคุมโรคฟันผุและโรคปริทันต์อักเสบ (ว ทันต จุฬาฯ 2550;30:235-44)

Objective To assess the opinions of full-time faculty staffs in clinical departments and dental practitioners on competencies standard in Dentistry for new dental graduates of Chulalongkorn University Material and methods This survey is a cross-sectional descriptive study.
