In current decade, patient’s demand of minimal orthodontic treatment have encouraged the introduction of appliance that will be lighter, improved profile and better esthetics with regard to conventional orthodontic treatment. Considering aesthetic treatment options, removable clear aligner treatment got popular among patients since it allows clinician to deliver comprehensive orthodontic treatment while maintaining comfort of patient. The aligners should exert an adequate force in order to shift the tooth to a desirable position. But, in recent times, the relation of applied force and aligner property (eg. thickness) is inadequately witnessed. This article focuses on a patient-focused framework has been formulated …

Correlation Of The Initial Bone Height To The Middle Facial Height And The Maxillary Sinus Volume: A Retrospective Study, Mark Bou Chaaya, Gabriel Menassa, Nabil Ghosn, Joyce Nicolas, Nada Naaman
International Arab Journal of Dentistry
This study aims to measure and establish a correlation between the initial bone height (IBH) at the dentate posterior maxillary sextants to the middle facial height (MFH) and the maxillary sinus volume (SV). Thirty CBCTs split evenly between males and females were retrospectively selected and processed to measure the SV and the IBH from the first premolar to the second molar. A clinical measurement was performed on each patient to evaluate the MFH. A significant positive correlation was found between MFH and SV. No significant correlation was found between the IBH of the first premolar and the SV or MFH …

Evaluation Of Amnion Chorion Membrane For Socket Preservation After The Extraction Of Maxillary Single Rooted Teeth: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial, Karim Soussi, Nayer Aboelsaad, Ziad Aly
International Arab Journal of Dentistry
Introduction: The aim of this study was to assess the efficiency of using dehydrated de-epithelialized amnion chorion membrane (ddACM) on socket preservation in the anterior region, clinically and radiographically.
Methods: 26 unrestorable maxillary anterior or single rooted premolars, with buccal fenestration, were selected. The socket was filled with allograft material and covered with ddACM for the test group, and allograft material with a collagen membrane for the control group divided equally. Clinical parameters including gingival healing and tissue thickness was assessed. Volumetric bone change was measured 4 months later using a CBCT.
Results: Test group showed clinical …

Oral Health Of Completely Edentulous Patients During The Covid-19 Pandemic And Its Impact On Their Nutritional Status: A Pilot Study, Hayat Jaber, Elissa Haddad, Carole Abi Ghosn Yared, Jihad Fakhouri, Nada El Osta
International Arab Journal of Dentistry
The COVID-19 pandemic, declared by the WHO on May 2020, has forced governments around the world to adapt several restrictive measures causing difficulties of access to oral healthcare. In Lebanon, a lack of data on these difficulties and their consequences for completely edentulous people prompted the realization of a pilot study evaluating the impact of this pandemic on access to oral healthcare and on the oral health status, oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), and nutritional status of these individuals. The study was conducted at the Removable Prosthodontics Department of the Faculty of Dentistry at Saint-Joseph University of Beirut through …

Myofacial pain is a common form of temporomandibular disorders. It is manifested by a sensory, motor and autonomous symptoms caused by trigger points. These pains can significantly affect patients’ quality of life, when they persist. Several etiological factors have been implicated in the genesis of the myofacial pain: muscle overload, emotional tension, harmful postural habits, fatigue, and hypovitaminosis... The diagnosis of myofacial pain is based on a pertinent history and clinical examination. Several therapeutic options alone or in combination have proven their effectiveness. This article aims, through a clinical case, to focus on myofacial pain, possible therapeutics, by focusing on …

Factors Influencing The Decision To Initiate Orthodontic Treatment And The Choice Of Appliance Type In A Lebanese Sample During The Covid-19 Pandemic And The Economic Crisis. A Cross-Sectional Study., Liliane Alameh, Elie Khoury, Elie Amm
International Arab Journal of Dentistry
Background: The spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has led to a major public health issue. This study aimed to assess the factors that influence the Lebanese people in undergoing an orthodontic treatment after the outbreak of COVID-19, as well as the factors that influence their choice of orthodontic appliance type. Methods: 489 Lebanese participants (199 men and 290 women) were invited to fill a questionnaire developed on Google Forms. Eligible participants were simply Lebanese people including those who immigrated during the crisis. Dentists, dental students and foreigners were excluded from the study. The link for the questionnaire was sent …

Mandibular substance loss is one of the most frequent acquired defects of the maxillofacial mass. Several etiologies have been described, the most frequent of which are tumours and traumas. The most commonly used prosthetic classification takes into consideration the bone continuity of the mandible, thus there are marginal defect mandibular substance preserving bone continuity and segmental defect with basal bone discontinuity. These bone defects lead to numerous functional complications (loss the dental occlusion, decreased chewing efficiency, lack of stalling during swallowing, phonatory disorder related to the change in the buccal resonance cavity) and aesthetic complications (facial asymmetry due to lateral …

Effect Of Impression Techniques On Soft Tissue Vertical Displacement In Removable Partial Denture. A Pilot Study, Christine Hanna, Nada El Osta, Jihad Fakhouri
International Arab Journal of Dentistry
Abstract Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the vertical displacement of soft tissue during different impression procedures using various spacing of the custom tray, and to determine which impression technique would allow the minimal movement. Material and Methods: 21 partially edentulous subjects were selected and enrolled in the study. Each one of them was subjected to four different impression procedures: three alginate impressions with different spacing of the custom tray and one composed with different impression materials, then casts were constructed. Light-curing acrylic occlusal platform was constructed on the primary model and perforated in 10 different points. …

In December 2019, the novel coronavirus was discovered for the first time in Wuhan, China. On the 9th of January 2020, following a fast progression of the infection, the World Health Organization announced the finding to be a novel coronavirus that was named SARS-CoV-2. Dentistry has a very special working environment that puts it on the top of the lists of hazardous professions. The inherent nature of dental procedures might represent a transmission path for the virus. The spread of the disease can be prevented by taking strict measures before, during and after each dental procedure. The aim of this …
