Introduction: 3M Unitek (2724 Peck Rd, Monrovia, CA 91016) has recently released a new adhesive system labeled APCTM Flash-Free (APCTM FF) that pledges to eliminate flash removal from the orthodontic bracket bonding process. The company states that the bond strength of this new system is comparable to other adhesive systems such as APCTM PLUS. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bond quality of APCTM FF by measuring excess adhesive, shear bond strength (SBS), microleakage penetration and adhesive remnant index (ARI) compared to APCTM PLUS. Differential mass and differential moments were compared for their anchorage effectiveness in the sagittal and vertical dimensions. Class I patients with maximum anchorage requirements and treated with four first premolar extractions were selected. Objective: This study evaluated the release of fluoride from orthodontic band adhesives before and after exposure to fluoride varnish (FV), MI Paste (MIP), MI Paste Plus (MIPP), or no application, in neutral and acidic solutions. Background: White spot lesions (WSLs) occur in 73% of orthodontic patients. WSLs occur as a result of plaque accumulation, which leads to increased acidity of the oral cavity and subsequent enamel demineralization. Topical fluoride is frequently used as therapy for WSLs, in the form of toothpaste, mouth-rinse and varnish. Earlier research has indicated that immersion in artificial gastric acid increased surface roughness of dental ceramics. Objective: The purpose of this ex vivo study was to assess the changes in tooth color and existing orthodontic bracket bonding when exposed to a bleaching agent. Methods: 120 freshly extracted human premolars were equally divided into 4 groups: a negative-control group, a positive-control bleaching group, a bracket-bonded group, and a bracket bonded-bleached group. The bleaching protocol was carried out as recommended by the manufacturer of Opalescence Go® – 30 minutes each day for 10 consecutive days. Objective: This study was conducted to compare the shear bond strengths, patterns of bond failure and enamel surfaces after debonding two ceramic brackets (ClearVu and Radiance Plus) and one standard metal bracket (Mini Uni-Twin). Background: Ceramic brackets are an esthetic alternative to metal brackets. The mean shear bond strength of ceramic brackets is significantly greater than for metal brackets. This paper investigated the sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and precision of laser fluorescence and tactile probing for the detection of subgingival calculus. The gold standard for subgingival calculus detection has always been tactile probing. In this study 27 teeth were collected and 108 surfaces investigated, one tooth was excluded (group #13) where no calculus was observed on any surface, and three surfaces because of subgingival root caries to avoid confounding data, which left a total of 101 surfaces of 26 extracted teeth that meet the investigation criteria.
