Establishing The Minimally Important Clinical Difference For The Oral Health Impact Profile In Malaysians Provided With Removable Partial Dentures, Siti Fauzza Ahmad Jan 2021

Establishing The Minimally Important Clinical Difference For The Oral Health Impact Profile In Malaysians Provided With Removable Partial Dentures, Siti Fauzza Ahmad

Student Works (2020-2029)

Future demand for a removable partial denture (RPD) remains as more adults retain their natural teeth into old age. Partial tooth loss often leads to masticatory function disturbances and negatively affects the quality of life (QoL). Prosthodontic rehabilitation with RPD improves QoL; however, the statistically significant change with many Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQOL) instruments, may not be clinically meaningful. The Malaysian version of Oral Health Impact Profile, OHIP(M)-45 questionnaires has been validated and adapted; however, its clinical interpretability has not been established. The smallest change in OHRQoL score perceived by a patient as beneficial, following an intervention, is …

Analysis Of Periodontal Parameters, Subgingival Bacteria And Levels Of Ll-37 In Periodontitis Subjects With Rheumatoid Arthritis, Cheah Chia Wei

Student Works (2020-2029)

Associations between rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease of the joints, and periodontitis (PD), a chronic inflammatory disease affecting tooth supporting tissues have been reported. Antimicrobial peptide cathelicidin LL-37 besides being antibacterial, is also involved in inflammatory process. It has been suggested as a possible mechanistic link for these diseases. This study aimed to investigate the subgingival microbial profile of RA subjects and its correlation with levels of salivary and serum LL-37. A total of 104 subjects were allocated into RA (n=49) or non-RA (NRA) (n=55) groups. Three subgroups, PD, gingivitis (G) and periodontal health (H) were further …

Understanding And Assessing Dental Anxiety And Fear In Malaysia, Rashidah Esa Jan 2021

Understanding And Assessing Dental Anxiety And Fear In Malaysia, Rashidah Esa

Student Works (2020-2029)

Dental anxiety refers to a vague, unpleasant feeling that something undesirable awaits whereas dental fear is a normal response to a threat or danger. Anticipation of a dental visit can induce dental anxiety whereas the most fear-provoking situations were the sight of injection needles and the drilling procedures. Nevertheless, the terms are often used interchangeably. Dental anxiety and fear (DAF) are perpetual problems worldwide and their assessment is important to assist dentists in the management of highly anxious patients. In Malaysia, more studies are needed to add to the growing body of DAF research. The aim of this thesis was …

The Effectiveness Of Asiaticoside On Osteogenic Differentiation Ability In Aging Human Periodontal Ligament Cells In Vitro, Adisa Suthirathikul

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Retaining teeth is essential for the quality of life of the aging population. However, aging has biological effects in periodontal ligament cells with significant changes in their proliferative rate and regenerative function. Asiaticoside, extracted from Centella asiatica, was found to have potential in osteogenic differentiation and mineralization in human periodontal ligament cells (HPDLCs). The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of asiaticoside on the aging HPDLCs osteogenic differentiation and mineralization. Aging HPDLCs, retrieved from patients age 60 and above, were confirmed aging status using Senescence-Associated ß -Galactosidase assay. The cells were incubated with various concentrations of asiaticoside …

Demographic factors, dental admission test (DAT) factors, pre-program academic factors, dental program academic performance, and National Board Dental Examination (NBDE) Part I performance. A series of independent t-tests and One-Way analysis of variances (ANOVAs) were used to …

Disparities In Oral Health: Socioeconomic Status And Policies To Increase Access To Primary Dental Care, Mckenzie Nutter

Theses/Capstones/Creative Projects

Primary dental care is a patient-centered service consisting of routine dental checkups. The oral cavity is the first point of entrance to the body for many harmful pathogens. Therefore, primary dental care is essential to not only prevent and treat conditions in the mouth, but to also reduce the number of systemic diseases in the rest of the body. However, people with higher incomes or wealth have increased access to primary dental care. People with low socioeconomic status have decreased access to primary dental care, at least in part due to difficulties in paying for separate dental insurance. Disparities in …

Revisiting A Funding Model For University-Led Dental Clinics: The Case Of Complete Denture Fabrication, Rohana Ahmad, Nur Amalina Zul, Siti Anisah Mohtar, Marc Tennant, Tuti Ningseh Mohd-Dom

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia

Objectives: University-led dental clinics are rarely seen as core to the national healthcare system. Thus, when publicly funded universities experience a decline in government support, dental clinic services operated by students are confronted by a potentially inadequate operating budget. Prompted by the need for strategic resource allocation, this study seeks to quantify the resources consumed in the construction of complete dentures by undergraduate students in an effort to identify opportunities for cost-cutting measures. Methods: Clinical cases were retrieved from the logbooks of graduating students of Class 2015, and patient records were reviewed to identify and quantify all clinical …
