Introduction: Some people with tinnitus have normal audiometric hearing thresholds. Even when hearing is within normal limits, patients can suffer a myriad of symptoms from tinnitus, including depression and other mental health problems. Case Presentation: A male adult presented to the clinic with complaints of bothersome tinnitus, asymmetric hearing loss, and a long history of environmental noise exposure, including both occupational and recreational noise. Discussion: Audiologists should determine the primary concerns of their tinnitus patients and how the condition affects their health and wellbeing. Introduction: Tinnitus is characterized by a sporadic or constant ringing, chirping, buzzing, or related characteristics that are perceived auditorily and can range in intensity. Case Presentation: A young adult female with normal hearing sensitivity presented to the clinic with constant unilateral pulsatile tinnitus in the right ear that was intensified with physical activity and caffeine. It was reported as sudden in onset and classified as severely debilitating. After extensive audiologic testing, personalized counseling, and a thorough medical evaluation, the patient received an open-fit monaural hearing aid to promote safe sound therapy and tinnitus habituation. Introduction: Misophonia is a rare disorder affecting approximately one in 1,500 people, of which, a small percentage are pediatric patients. Misophonia is characterized by the dislike of an explicit sound in a specific context. Treatment for misophonia includes a four-step program that can be modified for pediatrics. Case Presentation: A young female presented to the clinic with a significant distressed reaction when in the presence of specific sounds that included chewing, clicking pens, and loud music bass tones. Discussion: Treatment of misophonia is comparable to a care-plan for both tinnitus and hyperacusis. For this case, a four-step approach was used …

Background: The perception of tinnitus may be triggered by a reduction in inhibitory function in the central auditory nervous system. Evidence, primarily from invasive studies of animal models of tinnitus, indicates that these changes occur at both the subcortical and cortical level. Auditory evoked potential (AEP) indices of subcortical inhibition [auditory brainstem response (ABR) 〖"V/I" 〗_"amp ratio" ] and cortical inhibition [cortical auditory evoked potential (CAEP) sensory gating ratios] may provide an objective index of whether reduced subcortical and/or cortical inhibition is associated with tinnitus perception in humans. Tinnitus is described as a sound perceived by an individual that has no external source. Some individuals with tinnitus can habituate to this phantom sound, while others become emotionally disturbed by it. There are several theories which attempt to rationalize the cause of tinnitus, and various treatments which aim to eliminate, mask, or facilitate habituation to one’s tinnitus. Current common treatments include sound therapies and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), either in isolation or in combination with one another. Tinnitus is a serious neurological condition effecting 10-15% of adults, and can lead to other symptoms such as difficulty concentrating and sleeping, anxiety, and depression. Currently there are no FDA approved drugs to prevent or treat tinnitus, mainly due to a lack of understanding of its cellular and molecular pathways. T- and L- type calcium channels have been implicated in the modulation of tinnitus, as well as the dysfunction of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) neurons. This study used the sound-based avoidance detection (SBAD) method in order to detect tinnitus and determine whether pharmacological treatments had an effect in mediating tinnitus. T-type …
