Amphiphilic Cell-Penetrating Hybrid Cyclic-Linear Peptides As A Drug Delivery System, Saghar Mozaffari
Amphiphilic Cell-Penetrating Hybrid Cyclic-Linear Peptides As A Drug Delivery System, Saghar Mozaffari
Pharmaceutical Sciences (PhD) Dissertations
A number of cyclic peptides containing a positively charged ring composed of arginine residues attached to hydrophobic tail made of tryptophan residues through a lysine linker namely [R5K]W5, [R6K]W5, [R5K]W6, [R7K]W5, [R5K]W7, [R6K]W6, and [R7K]W7 were synthesized and evaluated as molecular transporters. The peptides were evaluated for their ability to deliver, fluorescence-labeled cell-impermeable negatively charged phosphopeptide (F′-GpYEEI), and fluorescent labeled anti-HIV drugs (F′-FTC and F′-d4T). The results indicated that the presence of positively …
Caspases And Cancer: Connections Through Circular Dichroism Spectroscopy, Sarah M. Hethcox
Caspases And Cancer: Connections Through Circular Dichroism Spectroscopy, Sarah M. Hethcox
Honors College Theses
While excessive cell death inevitably leads to negative effects, the endurance of damaged cells in the presence of death signals can be equally detrimental to health. Apoptosis, or programmed cell death, is a highly regulated process in which cues from within or from outside a cell can trigger an irreversible sequence of signals that carry out cell destruction known as the apoptotic cascade. A group of enzymes called caspases play a vital role in this cascade with some participating as initiators and others acting as effectors of protein cleavage and intracellular breakdown. Although it is normal for the activity of …
Synthesis, Characterization, And Evaluation Of Metal Complexes With Cancer Selective Anti-Proliferative Effects And Hydrogen Evolution Catalytic Properties., Nicholas Vishnosky
Synthesis, Characterization, And Evaluation Of Metal Complexes With Cancer Selective Anti-Proliferative Effects And Hydrogen Evolution Catalytic Properties., Nicholas Vishnosky
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Bis-thiosemicarbazones (BTSC) and their metal chelates have properties that are useful in several different scientific fields. These systems have already received attention in major fields of biology and engineering. Hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) catalysts need to be cheap and operate under minimal overpotentials with a long lifetime. The treatment of cancer requires, novel agents that have potent cytotoxic activity against cancer cells while displaying minimal side effects. In this dissertation the modular synthesis of these bis-thiosemicarbazone systems is utilized to regulate the redox chemistry for employment in the desired sector of chemistry. The ligand and metal chelates synthesized were characterized …
Nanomedicine For The Treatment Of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, Tanvi Gandhi, B.Pharm
Nanomedicine For The Treatment Of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, Tanvi Gandhi, B.Pharm
BU Well
Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, or NHL, is the predominant category of lymphoma. NHL is a type of lymphoid hematopoietic malignancy which approximately 70,000 Americans are diagnosed with annually, with the number of diagnoses growing annually. For decades, chemotherapy was the standard treatment of care, but since the discovery in 1997, monoclonal antibodies are increasingly used as an alternate form of therapy. Nonetheless, almost 20,000 Americans succumb to NHL annually, which highlights the translational gap between preclinical research and the market. Although a lot of progress has been made in therapy options by immunotherapy and combination chemotherapy, the ingenuity of nanomedicine may bridge …
Effects Of Ef-24 And Cisplatin On Cancer, Renal, And Auditory Cells, Denis Hodzic
Effects Of Ef-24 And Cisplatin On Cancer, Renal, And Auditory Cells, Denis Hodzic
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Cisplatin is a chemotherapy drug effective against several forms of cancer, but can also cause serious side-effects, including nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity. Curcumin, a natural plant compound, can increase cisplatin’s anti-cancer activity and counteract cisplatin’s deleterious effect on the auditory and renal systems. Unfortunately, curcumin exhibits poor bioavailability, which has promoted interest in the development of synthetic curcumin analogs (curcuminoids) that are soluble, target cancer, and do not cause side effects. This study investigated whether the curcuminoid (3E,5E)-3,5-bis[(2-fluorophenyl) methylene]-4-piperidinone (EF-24) increases the anti-cancer effects of cisplatin against a human ovarian cancer cell line (A2780) and its cisplatin-resistant counterpart (A2780cis), while preventing …
Determining Efficacy Of Anti-Cancer Drug From Detection In Plasma Using The Hplc Method, Nili Modi
Determining Efficacy Of Anti-Cancer Drug From Detection In Plasma Using The Hplc Method, Nili Modi
BIO4950: Internship in Biology
Extraction of anti-cancer drug in plasma from in vivo organism models were studied to examine and differentiate the different methods. Along with extraction, detection of the amount and the retention period of the anti- cancer drug in plasma in the test subjects were focused on to analyze the ways of the HPLC method. The HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) method is the most frequently used method for detection in many labs due to its ability to be programed quick with minimal training and to ensure accurate results. Using animal models to detect plasma drug levels in pre-clinical trials is valuable …

Analyzing Brain Sample Via Hplc Method, Neethu Mathew
BIO4950: Internship in Biology
This paper aims to investigate the principle methodology behind extraction and detection of an anti-cancer drug from brain samples via the high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method. In order to assess the efficiency of the methodology carried out in the Rumbaugh-Goodwin Institute of Cancer Research (RGI), numerous peer-reviewed journals and articles were analyzed over the duration of this internship. They were filtered on the basis of inclusion of keywords, date written, peer-reviewed credibility, and similarity to RGI’s research. The literature that has been chosen to be reviewed includes studies that present similar methodologies or test drugs with similar functions. From …
