Designing And Synthesizing A Warhead-Fragment Inhibitory Ligand For Ivyp1 Through Fragment-Based Drug Discovery, Samuel Moore
Designing And Synthesizing A Warhead-Fragment Inhibitory Ligand For Ivyp1 Through Fragment-Based Drug Discovery, Samuel Moore
Symposium of Student Scholars
Fragment-based drug discovery (FBDD) is a powerful tool for developing anticancer and antimicrobial agents. Within this, magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) provides a comprehensive qualitative and quantitative approach to screening and validating weak and robust binders with targeted proteins, making NMR among the most attractive strategies in FBDD. Inhibitor of vertebrate lysozyme (Ivyp1) of P. aeruginosa serves as an excellent target because of its active cellular location and implications in clinical prognosis for cystic fibrosis and immunocompromised patients. This study uses current NMR and biophysical techniques to develop a covalent, fragment-linked warhead inhibitor for Ivyp1 through synthetic methods, warhead linking, and …
Assessing The Impact Of Lipopolysaccharide On Learning And Memory In Rats, Anahat Luthra
Assessing The Impact Of Lipopolysaccharide On Learning And Memory In Rats, Anahat Luthra
Undergraduate Student Research Internships Conference
The immune system and the central nervous system (CNS) have a bi-direction relationship, modulating one another.4 Proinflammatory cytokines released from CNS immune cells have an impact on cognitive processes such as learning and memory.1 Liposaccharide (LPS), a cell wall component of Gram-negative bacteria, which is used to activate proinflammatory cytokine release has been found to impact learning and memory processes, such as in the anticipatory nausea paradigm (ANP).2 Anticipatory nausea and vomiting is that which may occur before a chemotherapy treatment session begins in a patient who has had chemotherapy before. It is caused by triggers like …
Biowill - Characterising Willow Bark Bio-Actives For Skin Therapies, Arnold Marisa
Biowill - Characterising Willow Bark Bio-Actives For Skin Therapies, Arnold Marisa
ORBioM (Open Research BioSciences Meeting)
Willow bark is considered as a disposable by-product when processing willow for biomass. Willow (Salix) is known to contain high value bioactive compounds which include salicin and its derivatives, and other phytochemicals of interest such as polyphenols and flavonoids. The plant is historically known as the primary source of salicylates to which the well-known drug aspirin is derived from. The work forms part of the Interreg project BioWILL, which is focused on integrated “Zero Waste” biorefinery utilising all fractions of willow feedstock for the production of biochemicals and renewable energy. This project aims to investigate the crude and …
Effect Of Uracil Dna Glycosylase Activity On The Efficacy Of Thymidylate Synthase Inhibitor/Hdac Inhibitor Combination Therapies In Colon Cancer, Rashmi Kulkarni, Brian P Weiser
Effect Of Uracil Dna Glycosylase Activity On The Efficacy Of Thymidylate Synthase Inhibitor/Hdac Inhibitor Combination Therapies In Colon Cancer, Rashmi Kulkarni, Brian P Weiser
Rowan-Virtua Research Day
Human uracil DNA glycosylase (UNG2) is responsible for removing uracil bases from DNA and initiates base excision repair pathways. Accumulation of uracil or its fluorinated analogs in DNA is one of the killing mechanisms of thymidylate synthase (TS) inhibitors in cancer cells, and depletion of UNG2 often enhances the toxicity of these anticancer drugs. We tested the effect of UNG2 KO on the efficacy of multiple TS inhibitors (5-fluorouracil, fluorodeoxyuridine, and pemetrexed) and we determined that, except for 5-fluorouracil, all other TS inhibitors were significantly more potent in UNG2 KO cells compared to wild-type HT29 cells. Interestingly, UNG2 protein levels …
Effect Of Calcium Chloride And Isoflurane On Force Frequency Relationship In Canines, Harrison Patrizio, Lawrence Mulligan
Effect Of Calcium Chloride And Isoflurane On Force Frequency Relationship In Canines, Harrison Patrizio, Lawrence Mulligan
Rowan-Virtua Research Day
Proper calcium cycling is critical for a optimally functioning heart.
Improper calcium cycling in humans can contribute to heart failure.
Human calcium cycling is difficult to study due to the risks of damaging the patient’s cardiac tissue.
Risk of further damaging cardiac tissue is substantially increased in a heart failure patient.
Past studies focus on studying the effects of changing calcium cycling in lab rats.
Current research shows limited alternative methods in studying relationships between calcium cycling and FFR in larger mammals.
This project analyzes data to determine the response of the canine force frequency relationship to calcium chloride and …
Zntppea As A Potential Photosensitizer In Photodynamic Therapy, Marly Welborn, Joseph E. Bradshaw
Zntppea As A Potential Photosensitizer In Photodynamic Therapy, Marly Welborn, Joseph E. Bradshaw
Scholars Day Conference
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an emerging treatment that is used against certain types of cancer and other diseases. It functions using a photosensitizer in the presence of light that contributes to cell death in the desired tissues. This research centered on the development of a novel water-soluble porphyrin that could be utilized as a photosensitizer. Using ethanolamine the resulting compound, ZnTPP-EA, was created. Purification and characterization was carried out. The ZnTPP-EA was tested on the A549 lung cancer cell line using an MTT assay under light and dark conditions to assess the compound's effectiveness as a photosensitizer for PDT.
Effects Of Storage Conditions On Bpa Leanching From Infant Oral Hygiene Products Using Fluorescence Spectroscopy, Emma Bynum, Sara Hubbard
Effects Of Storage Conditions On Bpa Leanching From Infant Oral Hygiene Products Using Fluorescence Spectroscopy, Emma Bynum, Sara Hubbard
Scholars Day Conference
Bisphenol-A (BPA) is a structural component in many plastic products, which acts as an endocrine-disruptor mimicking estrogen. This hormonal disruption has been linked to obesity, reproductive issues, cardiovascular problems, and neurodevelopment disorders. Infants are at the highest risk of BPA exposure compared to any other stage of life. Because an infant's endocrine system is developing, exposure to an endocrine-disruptor, such as BPA, can be especially harmful. While the FDA monitors products like baby bottles, canned goods, and plastic containers for BPA, infant oral hygiene products are not closely monitored.
Previous research in our lab used fluorescence spectroscopy to test several …

Annual Research Symposium
A poster presentation and abstract for the Roseman Symposium. The project focuses on testing 3 essential oil blends and two disinfectants containing an essential oil blend against SARS CoV-2 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project procedure involves plaque assays, disinfection, and neutralization techniques.
