BACKGROUND: Actinic keratosis (AK) is a common precancerous skin condition arising from chronic UV exposure and often involves field cancerization, where visible lesions coexist with subclinical damage. Effective field-directed treatments are critical for preventing progression to squamous cell carcinoma.

HYPOTHESIS: Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) may offer superior efficacy, cosmetic outcomes, and patient adherence compared to topical 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU), despite its higher cost and clinical setting requirement.

METHODS: This literature review analyzed peer-reviewed studies from 2015–2025 comparing PDT and 5-FU for field-directed AK treatment. Outcomes assessed included lesion clearance, recurrence, tolerability, adherence, cost, and patient satisfaction.

Cytotoxic chemotherapy does not improve prognosis, especially for advanced ES patients who have a 5-year survival of 30% or less [1, 2]. Chronic expanding hematoma (CEH) is a rare entity that poses diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to persistent growth, risk of recurrence, and potential for blood loss anemia. The most common etiologies of CEH are trauma or surgery. It is thought to occur due to irritant effects of blood breakdown products, causing bleeding from capillaries in chronic granulation tissue. Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is an aggressive cancer of the myeloid lineage. Outcomes in older patients are poor, with high rates of resistant and relapsed disease. Devimistat is a lipoic acid analog that inhibits mitochondrial metabolism. Devimistat combined with high-dose cytarabine and mitoxantrone resulted in promising phase 1 and 2 response rates especially in older patients. This study identifies acute and chronic CNS oxygen toxicity under 2.0 atmospheres absolute (ATA) pressure of oxygen. Methods: The authors' medical records from September 29, 1989 to January 20, 2023 and correspondence to the authors (9/1994 to 1/20.2023) from patients with signs and/or symptoms historically identified as acute CNS oxygen toxicity and those with neurological deterioration receiving hyperbaric oxygen for neurological conditions were reviewed. Esophageal stenosis after radiotherapy occurs in up to 15% of patients within three months of treatment. Endoscopic dilation remains the standard of care for cervical esophageal stenosis with refractory cases requiring stenting. Proximal stenosis poses a challenge as standard esophageal stents can cause cervicalgia and globus sensation due to their size and expansive force. We report on the usage of a biliary SEMS for a severe-recurrent stricture at the level of the proximal esophageal sphincter.

In 2014, there were approximately 7.9 million adults in the United States with co-occurring Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Substance Use Disorders (SUD) (SAMHSA, 2014). Of the veterans who served in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan alone, 30% of those in SUD treatment also meet the criteria for PTSD (Seal et al, 2008, pp. 476). Furthermore, statistics show that about 20 Veterans in the United States complete suicide daily (Spiva, 2019, p. 8).
