However, limited institution-level evidence exists evaluating the cost-outcomes balance of OCS use in Donation-After-Circulatory-Death (DCD) liver transplantation. This article presents the case of Mr. C, a patient who received over 65 imaging tests without any pathology ever being found. The case is well-explained by a social science concept known as the clinical gaze, a socio-cognitive process of assigning pathological explanations to diseased bodies. This article provides some historical context for the concept and applies it to the case of Mr. C. When viewed through a social science lens, the excess imaging underwent by Mr. C transforms from something seemingly irrational to an almost inevitable outcome of the modern medical diagnostic process.

Brain injury guidelines (BIG) were developed to classify traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients and identify those that did not require ICU admission. Our aim was to implement our modified BIG (mBIG) in hopes of decreasing use of ICU beds for small TBI hemorrhages without compromising outcomes.

Methods:

Our mBIG protocol was implemented in January 2021 at Detroit Receiving Hospital with patients classified per the Table. Concurrent and retrospective data collected included demographics, ICU admission, outcomes, head CT scans and need for neurosurgical intervention. PRAME immunohistochemistry has proved effective in identifying malignant melanocytes in melanoma lesions, but it is unclear if it may be used to distinguish melanoma from benign melanocytic conditions, such as lentigo senilis.
