The Benefits Of Astaxanthin To Improve Pain Relief In Patients With Painful Diabetic Neuropathy: An Open-Label, Randomized Controlled Trial, Rizaldy Taslim Pinzon, Mary Rose Angelina Budi Harsana

Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research

Treatment of diabetic neuropathy is still carried out by providing symptomatic therapy, which only improves ± 50% of the total symptoms felt by patients, but does not tackle the underlying causes of the disease. Astaxanthin is a potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-diabetic carotenoid that could be an additional treatment option. We aimed to measure the effectiveness of administering astaxanthin as an additional therapy to improve the impact of pain and discomfort experienced daily by diabetes mellitus patients with painful diabetic neuropathy. We conducted a randomized experimental study with an open label design of 36 patients who had been diagnosed with …

Evaluation Of Antibacterial And Antioxidant Potential Of Some Homoeopathic Mother Tinctures, Tayyeba Rehman, Ahmad Saeed Jun 2019

Evaluation Of Antibacterial And Antioxidant Potential Of Some Homoeopathic Mother Tinctures, Tayyeba Rehman, Ahmad Saeed

Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy

Objectives: In homoeopathic system of medicine, mother tinctures are prescribed for several diseases especially for septic conditions and cure of many illnesses. This study was done to evaluate the antibacterial and antioxidant potential of ten commonly used homoeopathic mother tinctures. Materials and Methods: Ten prepared mother tinctures were tested against five clinically important human pathogenic bacteria (Salmonella typhi [S.T], Escherichia coli [E.C], Bacillus subtilis [B.S], Staphylococcus aureus [S.A], and Pseudomonas aeruginosa [P.A]) by broth micro-dilution method with ciprofloxacin as positive control. Antioxidant activity was estimated by 2,2-diphenyl 1-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) inhibition assay. Ascorbic acid was taken as positive standard in …

Phytochemical Analysis And Antioxidant Potential Of Ficus Benghalensis L., Haroon Ahmed, Muhammad Zafar Irshad Khan, Durdana Waseem, Adila Nazli, Muhammad Waleed Baig

Journal of Bioresource Management

Genus Ficus belongs to family Moraceae having 40 genera and over 1000 species worldwide. Different methods have been used for phytochemical screening of medicinal plants like total phenolics content (TPC) and total flavonoids content (TFC) assays to quantify phenolics and flavonoids. The phytochemical analysis exhibited highest total phenolics content in M extract of stem and total flavonoids content in ethyl acetate (EA) extract of leaves i.e. 61.2±1.3 µg GAE/mg extract and 25.1±0.9 µg QE/mg extract respectively. Total reduction power and total antioxidant capacity were maximum in the M extract of stem i.e. 243.89±1.6 µg AAE/mg extract and 127.08±2.7 µg AAE/mg …

A Study Of The Effect Of Mother Tincture Of Syzygium Jambolanum On Metabolic Disorders Of Streptozotocin Induced Diabetic Male Albino Rat, Soumyajit Maiti, Tushar Bera, Kausik Chatterjee, Debidas Ghosh

Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy

Background: Syzygium jambolanum is widely used in Homoeopathy for treating Diabetes mellitus and its complications. Objective: To explore the remedial effects of homoeopathic mother tincture Syzygium jambolanum on metabolic disorders of Streptozotocin induced diabetic male albino rat. Materials and Methods: Serum levels of insulin, urea, uric acid, creatinine, albumin and total protein were measured as per the standard methods using specific kits. Amount of glycogen in liver and skeletal muscles, activities of antioxidant enzymes as well as content of free radical bye products in liver and kidney tissues were assessed biochemically following the standard protocol. Results: The study indicated that …
