Background: Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic illness. It remains to be a major public health matter and a financial burden on the medical system worldwide. This condition can be managed and better treatment strategies and compliance can reduce the risk of complications. In 2022, there will be around 33,000,000 new cases of diabetes worldwide, with 26.7% of the adults in Pakistan being affected, predicts the (International Diabetes Federation, 2022). Background/aim: We aimedto determine the prevalence of traditional and complementary medicine (TCM) use among patients with musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and to examine the methods used, frequency, and experienced benefits of therapies; the reasons for using TCM; and the sources of information about therapies. The 2007 policy draft of Kenya’s National Coordinating Agency for Population and Development (NCAPD) states that the primary source of health care for more than two-thirds of Kenya’s population is traditional medicine (as cited in NCAPD, 2008). The World Health Organization (WHO) (2013) suggests there should be an integration of TM into systems of national health care to increase health care access. Whilst over three-quarters of the world׳s population continues to use traditional medicine (TRM) with an increasing trend globally, limited data exist in the Ashanti Region regarding TRM utilisation. This study espoused a retrospective cross-sectional quantitative approach to examine the prevalence and pattern of TRM use among the general population in the Kumasi Metropolis and Sekyere South District, Ghana.
