INTRODUCTION: Cranio-cervical anomalies are significant complications of osteogenesis imperfecta (OI), a rare bone fragility disorder that is usually caused by mutations in collagen type I encoding genes.

OBJECTIVE: To assess cranio-cervical anomalies and associated clinical findings in patients with moderate-to-severe OI using 3D cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans.

OBJECTIVE: Focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizures (FBTCS) represent a challenging subtype of focal temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) in terms of both severity and treatment response. Most studies have focused on regional brain analysis that is agnostic to the distribution of white matter (WM) pathways associated with a node. We implemented a more selective, edge-wise approach that allowed for identification of the individual connections unique to FBTCS.

Racial disparities affect multiple dimensions of epilepsy care including epilepsy surgery. This study aims to further explore these disparities by determining the utilization of invasive neuromodulation devices according to race and ethnicity in a multicenter study of patients living with focal drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE). We performed a post hoc analysis of the Human Epilepsy Project 2 (HEP2) data. HEP2 is a prospective study of patients living with focal DRE involving 10 sites distributed across the United States. Patients with hematologic malignancies undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant (allo-HCT) require extensive care. Using the Merative MarketScan Commercial Claims and Encounters database (2016 Q1-2020 Q2), we quantified the costs of care and assessed real-world complication rates among commercially insured US patients diagnosed with a hematologic malignancy and aged between 12 and 64 years undergoing inpatient allo-HCT. To address the current and long-term unmet health needs of the growing population of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) patients, we established the Lymphoma Epidemiology of Outcomes (LEO) cohort study (NCT02736357; https://leocohort.org/). A total of 7735 newly diagnosed patients aged 18 years and older with NHL were prospectively enrolled from 7/1/2015 to 5/31/2020 at 8 academic centers in the United States. The median age at diagnosis was 62 years (range, 18-99). IMPORTANCE: Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a genetic disorder that often results in severely high low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high risk of premature coronary heart disease (CHD). However, the impact of FH variants on CHD risk among individuals with moderately elevated LDL-C is not well quantified.

AIMS: Determining diabetes type in children has become increasingly difficult due to an overlap in typical characteristics between type 1 diabetes (T1D) and type 2 diabetes (T2D). Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) is a promising method to improve working memory performance. BACKGROUND: Rezafungin, a new US Food and Drug Administration-approved, long-acting echinocandin to treat candidaemia and invasive candidiasis, was efficacious with a similar safety profile to caspofungin in clinical trials. We conducted pooled analyses of the phase 2 STRIVE and phase 3 ReSTORE rezafungin trials.

METHODS: ReSTORE was a multicentre, double-blind, double-dummy, randomised phase 3 trial conducted at 66 tertiary care centres in 15 countries. Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is a prevalent disorder characterized by recurrent episodic upper airway obstruction. Using data from the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL), we apply principal component analysis (PCA) to seven SDB-related measures. We estimate the associations of the top two SDB PCs with serum levels of 617 metabolites, in both single-metabolite analysis, and a joint penalized regression analysis. The discovery analysis includes 3299 individuals, with validation in a separate dataset of 1522 individuals. Five metabolite associations with SDB PCs are discovered and replicated. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Firearm-related traumatic brain injury (TBI) has emerged as a significant public health issue in the United States, coinciding with a rapid increase in gun-related deaths. This scoping review aims to update our understanding of firearm-related TBI in adult populations.

METHODS: A comprehensive search of 6 online databases yielded 22 studies that met the inclusion criteria. The reviewed studies predominantly focused on young adult men who were victims of assault, although other vulnerable populations were also affected.

The detection of measurable residual disease (MRD) is the strongest predictor of relapse in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Using inotuzumab ozogamicin in the setting of MRD may improve outcomes. Patients with ALL in first complete remission (CR1) or beyond (CR2+) with MRD ≥ 1 × 10-4 were enrolled in this phase 2 trial. Inotuzumab was administered at 0.6 mg/m2 on day 1 and 0.3 mg/m2 on day 8 of cycle 1, then at 0.3 mg/m2 on days 1 and 8 of cycles 2-6. Intracranial volume (ICV) reflects maximal brain development and is associated with later-life cognitive abilities. We quantified ICV among first- and second-generation Hispanic and Latino adults from the Study of Latinos-Investigation of Cognitive Aging - MRI (SOL-INCA-MRI), estimated ICV heritability, and tested its associations with previously reported genetic variants, both individually and as a genetic risk score (GRS). We also estimated the association of ICV with early life environmental measures: nativity or age of immigration and parental education. IMPORTANCE: Cell therapy is a promising treatment approach for stroke and other diseases. However, it is unknown whether MultiStem (HLCM051), a bone marrow-derived, allogeneic, multipotent adult progenitor cell product, has the potential to treat ischemic stroke.

Relapse is the major cause of failure of high-dose chemotherapy (HDC) with autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) for B cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas (B-NHL). Improvement strategies include use in combination with effective immunotherapies. We hypothesized that the combination of rituximab/HDC/ASCT with expanded cord blood (CB)-derived natural killer (NK) cells is safe and active in B-NHL. Patients with B-NHL age 15 to 70 years and appropriate ASCT candidates were eligible for the study. The CB units were selected without considering HLA match with the recipient. INTRODUCTION: Regional gray matter (GM) alterations have been reported in early-onset psychosis (EOP, onset before age 18), but previous studies have yielded conflicting results, likely due to small sample sizes and the different brain regions examined. In this study, we conducted a whole brain voxel-based morphometry (VBM) analysis in a large sample of individuals with EOP, using the newly developed ENIGMA-VBM tool.

Measures of functional brain network segregation and integration vary with an individual's age, cognitive ability, and health status. Based on these relationships, these measures are frequently examined to study and quantify large-scale patterns of network organization in both basic and applied research settings. However, there is limited information on the stability and reliability of the network measures as applied to functional time-series; these measurement properties are critical to understand if the measures are to be used for individualized characterization of brain networks.
