Adolescent major depressive disorder (MDD) is a prevalent and serious mental health condition. Pharmacological treatments are commonly used but often have poor tolerability and severe side effects, such as suicidal ideation. Deep transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is currently cleared treating MDD in individuals 22-86 years old. This post-marketing surveillance study was designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of using this tool as a treatment for MDD in younger patients. While IPV is often studied as a predictor of housing insecurity, few U.S. studies explore how different forms of housing instability may contribute to intimate partner violence (IPV) risk. Using a mixed-methods approach and a cross-sectional design, this study examined the association between four housing instability domains and IPV among a sample of tenants that had either experienced eviction or were at high risk for eviction. Tenants in Harris and Travis counties (Texas, USA) completed an online survey (n = 1085; March–July 2024). BACKGROUND: Hyams grading is considered prognostic in olfactory neuroblastoma (ONB), but grading criteria are subjective and predate modern classification and surgical approach. We evaluate the application of granular grading criteria to an endoscopic surgery predominant cohort with extended follow-up.

METHODS: 78 ONB patients were identified (1994-2019) with original diagnoses dating to 1979. Original Hyams grade, Modified Hyams grade incorporating more detailed criteria and other histologic features (i.e. divergent differentiation, clear cell/oncocytic change, and spindling) were assessed if feasible, evaluated for distribution by grade and correlated with outcomes.

Despite the critical role of DNA methylation, clinical implementations harnessing its promise have not been described in acute myeloid leukemia. Utilizing DNA methylation from 3314 leukemia patient samples across 11 harmonized cohorts, we describe the Acute Leukemia Methylome Atlas, which includes robust models capable of accurately predicting AML subtypes. A genome-wide prognostic model as well as a targeted panel of 38 CpGs significantly predict five-year survival in our pediatric and adult test cohorts. To accelerate rapid clinical utility, we develop a specimen-to-result protocol that uses long-read nanopore sequencing and machine learning to characterize patients' whole genomes and epigenomes. Background: Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome (SLOS) is an autosomal recessive disorder of cholesterol biosynthesis caused by biallelic pathogenic variants in DHCR7, which encodes the enzyme 7-dehydrocholesterol reductase (DHCR7). SLOS is a multisystemic disorder affecting various aspects of health, including growth, development, behavior, and quality of life, underscoring the need for safe, efficacious interventions that limit disease burden. DHCR7 enzyme deficiency leads to a "metabolic block" resulting in decreased cholesterol production and accumulation of its precursor 7-dehydrocholesterol and the secondary isomer 8-dehydrocholesterol. Lineage switch (LS), defined as the immunophenotypic transformation of acute leukemia, has emerged as a mechanism of relapse after antigen-targeted immunotherapy, which is associated with dismal outcomes. Through an international collaborative effort, we identified cases of LS after a host of antigen-targeted therapies (eg, CD19, CD22, CD38, and CD7), described how LS was diagnosed, reviewed treatment approaches, and analyzed overall outcomes for this form of postimmunotherapy relapse. PURPOSE: This exploratory analysis aimed to identify predictive factors of final best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in patients with Leber hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) harboring the m.11778G>A mutation who received lenadogene nolparvovec gene therapy.

METHODS: The following covariates were individually evaluated as possible factors associated with improved final BCVA: age, gender, timing of treatment, baseline BCVA value, and baseline optical coherence tomography (OCT) parameters. Univariate analyses were performed from three phase 3 studies (RESCUE, REVERSE, and REFLECT), using BCVA at 1.5 years post-treatment as the dependent variable.

Recent evidence indicates that the intraparietal sulcus (IPS) may play a causal role in action stopping, potentially representing a novel neuromodulation target for inhibitory control dysfunctions. Here, we leverage intracranial recordings in human subjects to establish the timing and directionality of information flow between IPS and prefrontal and cingulate regions during action stopping. Prior to successful inhibition, information flows primarily from the inferior frontal gyrus (IFG), a critical inhibitory control node, to IPS. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate and compare documentation completeness of HIV-related data by age group (children, adolescents and adults) in Haiti's Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.

DESIGN: Cross-sectional evaluation.

SETTING: EMR data for 36 965 enrolment visits, and 123 608 return visits from 58 facilities in Haiti (from 2016 to 2022).

Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a myeloid neoplastic disorder driven by mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) activation in hematopoietic cells. Historically, LCH has been staged according to involvement of "risk organs" (bone marrow, liver, and spleen), based on risk of death. With improvements in supportive care and efficacy of MAPK pathway inhibitors, patients with LCH now rarely die. Emerging evidence suggests genetic ancestry may influence childhood cancer outcomes, but its impact on pediatric rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is unknown. We explored genetic ancestry's impact on survival among children with RMS. This multi-center observational cohort study is a secondary analysis of previously collected biobanking, genomic, and clinical data. The action-mode network (AMN) is a canonical functional brain network first identified using resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC). Based on animal and human data, we have proposed that AMN supports the brain's action mode by controlling functions required for successful goal-directed behavior. However, task fMRI averaged across groups has associated AMN regions with a variety of behaviors, contributing to uncertainty about AMN function. Despite the increasing utilization of bridging radiotherapy (Br-RT), its impact on chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy (CAR-T) efficacy and toxicity remains poorly characterized. We retrospectively reviewed patients with relapsed/refractory B-cell lymphomas (BCLs) who received Br-RT followed by CAR-T from 2018 to 2020 across 10 institutions. Br-RT toxicities were graded per Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events version 5.0, and cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS) per American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Consensus Guidelines. Background and hypothesis: Sensory gating deficit is considered a pathophysiological feature of schizophrenia, which has been linked to N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) hypofunction as one of the potential underlying mechanisms. BACKGROUND: The large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in early 2022 resulted in a humanitarian crisis with hundreds of thousands of children exposed to traumatic events. To date, trauma-focused evidence-based treatments (EBTs) for children and youth have not been systematically evaluated and implemented in Ukraine. Because of the role of nurses in patient decision-making, it is important to understand the attitudes of the future nursing workforce toward xenotransplantation. The basis and impact of functional asymmetries in the brain, particularly language lateralization, are not fully understood, and the relationship between functional and structural asymmetries remains largely untested. This study investigated the degree to which asymmetries in hemispheric language laterality are concordant with asymmetries in gray matter (GM) structure and whether the hemispheric organization of memory is influenced by functional language asymmetries. Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is the most common focal epilepsy, with focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizures (FBTCS+) a more severe form of the disorder. Evidence has underscored the critical role of the thalamus, mesial temporal region, basal ganglia and cerebellum, along with the cortex, in the propagation, termination, and modulation of seizure activity. Background and objectives: Emerging evidence suggests that immune dysregulation plays a pivotal role in triggering cryptogenic new-onset refractory status epilepticus (c-NORSE), prompting a consensus on early initiation of immunotherapy. However, despite similar timing of administration, responses to immunotherapies have been varied and unpredictable, suggesting the presence of heterogeneous underlying mechanisms. The aim of this study was to identify distinct inflammatory response subtypes in patients with c-NORSE by analyzing their cytokine profiles. Insights into underlying mechanisms were sought to understand the pathophysiology and guide personalized therapies to improve patient outcomes.

Background: When people living with HIV develop pulmonary tuberculosis, it often manifests without detectable acid-fast bacilli on sputum microscopy. We aimed to assess the diagnostic accuracy of stool Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra (hereafter, Ultra) for Mycobacterium tuberculosis detection among adults with HIV.

Objective: To examine rates of postpartum hemorrhagic (PPH) morbidity among patients who did and did not have immediate skin-to-skin contact (SSC).

Methods: This study was a retrospective cohort of all non-anomalous, term singleton vaginal births at a Level IV center over 2 years. Exclusion criteria included COVID-19. Immediate SSC was defined as at least 60 min of direct contact initiated between parturient and neonate within 10 min of birth. Introduction: Strongyloidiasis is an important but underdiagnosed soil-transmitted helminthiasis, particularly in tropical areas and some vulnerable groups.

Objectives: To assess the parasitological prevalence, seroprevalence and sociodemographic factors of Strongyloides stercoralis infection in patients living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLWH) in an endemic area.

Background: Healthy dietary patterns are recommended to prevent cardiovascular disease (CVD), yet the relationships among healthy dietary patterns, blood metabolite profile, and incident CVD are not well understood.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the associations of healthy dietary patterns and related serum metabolite profiles with incident CVD in United States Hispanic/Latino adults.

Methods: The study included 13,922 participants aged 18-74 y from the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos. OBJECTIVE: To establish thyroid ultrasound volume norms appropriate for studies of diffuse goiter in a cohort of children and adolescents from an iodine-deficient population exposed to 131I by the Chernobyl fallout.

METHODS: A cohort of 11,970 Belarusians aged ≤18 years at the time of the 1986 Chernobyl accident with individual thyroid radiation dose estimates was screened 10-18 years later. From these, a low-dose subset of 2,392 with no thyroid diseases was selected to construct age- and sex-specific normative values for thyroid ultrasound volume, compared to Belarusian Ministry of Health (MOH) norms and existing WHO and European standards.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with Down syndrome (DS) typically exhibit lower cardiorespiratory fitness and reduced moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) compared to persons without disability. Approximately 50-55 % of individuals with DS have congenital heart disease (CHD), which is associated with cardiopulmonary deficiencies and reduced MVPA participation in non-DS populations. It is unknown if CHD related comorbidities compound with DS associated deficits in physical activity and fitness.
