BACKGROUND: Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer experience multiple distressing symptoms during treatment, yet few developmentally relevant resources have been developed to help them self-manage their symptoms. Empowering patients to have a more active role in self-management during cancer treatment may lessen their symptom severity and distress.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to test an intervention designed to improve symptom self-management, the Computerized Symptom Capture Tool (C-SCAT), by helping AYAs understand their unique symptom experience and discuss it with their health care providers.

Background and aims: Truncating variants in the TTN gene (TTNtv) are the most common genetic cause of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) but also occur as incidental findings in the general population. This study investigated factors associated with the clinical manifestation of TTNtv.

Methods: An international multicentre retrospective observational study was performed in families with TTNtv-related DCM. Shared frailty models were used to estimate associations of variant characteristics with lifetime risk of DCM, and logistic regression to estimate odds ratios (ORs) for individual-level clinical risk factor profiles (cardiac conditions, cardiovascular comorbidities, lifestyle) and DCM.

Sensory processing varies across individuals, with some traits-particularly sensory hypersensitivity to basic non-valenced stimuli-linked to emotional traits and psychiatric risk. Traditional accounts attribute this sensory-emotion linkage to limbic or prefrontal modulation, but empirical support is limited. Growing evidence suggests sensory cortex itself flexibly encodes value beyond labeled-line analysis. Across four high-density EEG experiments with multi-wave assessments, we identified reliable visual cortical hyperactivity in high trait anxiety. The effect emerged as early as 46 ms, localized to V1/V2, and was specific to the parvocellular pathway. BACKGROUND: Adults and children often respond differently to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, with adults facing a higher risk of symptomatic and severe illness. We hypothesize that children's protection from symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 may be due to more frequent respiratory viral infections, which prime their airway antiviral defenses.

98% of T cells reside in tissues, yet nearly all human T cell analyses are performed on peripheral blood. We performed single-cell sequencing of 5.7 million T cells from autologous blood and tonsils of ten donors. We identified distinct patterns of clonal expansion associated with tonsil-restricted phenotypes. Clonal sharing between blood and tonsils was lower than previous estimates and increased with age. Identical T cell receptor (TCR) sequences exhibited limited concordance in their phenotypes across compartments. The interplay between brain metabolism and function supports the brain's adaptive capacity in cognitively demanding processes. Prior work has linked glucose metabolism to resting-state fMRI activity, but often overlooks both hemodynamic confounders in the BOLD signal and the brain's dynamic nature. To address this, we employed a novel effective connectivity decomposition, separating symmetric partial covariance, capturing "true" statistical dependencies between regions, from antisymmetric differential covariance, reflecting directional brain flow. In 42 healthy subjects, we show that partial covariance corresponds to metabolic connectivity across regions, while node directionality relates to standardized uptake value ratio, a proxy for local glucose consumption. BACKGROUND: Several US states have per se laws using 2 or 5 ng/mL of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) as cutpoints for driving under the influence of cannabis, while some have zero-tolerance statutes. These cutpoints are considered prima facia evidence of driving impairment.

METHODS: In a cohort of people who regularly use cannabis (N = 190) we measured baseline concentrations of THC after instructing participants to abstain from cannabis for at least 48 hours. Baseline driving performance was evaluated using a driving simulator. We also measured blood THC concentrations serially following a smoking session (placebo or active cannabis).

PURPOSE: We conducted an integrated safety analysis from three clinical studies of tebentafusp, a first-in-class ImmTAC bispecific T-cell engager, which can redirect T cells to target glycoprotein 100-positive cells, in metastatic uveal melanoma.

Objective: We investigated whether complete blood count (CBC) analyses during intensive care unit stay could predict 12-month outcomes in patients with cryptogenic febrile infection-related epilepsy syndrome (FIRES), a subset of new-onset refractory status epilepticus (NORSE).

Methods: Outcomes at 12 months were classified as "unfavorable" (Glasgow Outcome Score [GOS] 1-3) or "favorable" (GOS 4-5). Demographic, clinical, and serial CBC data were collected across treatment phases: (1) no immunotherapy (before initiation or no treatment), (2) first-line immunotherapy, and (3) second-line immunotherapy. The Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) is considered the primary instrument for assessing the presence and severity of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Conceptual and empirical critiques inspired the development of an updated version of the instrument, the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale-Second Edition (Y-BOCS-II), with a higher ceiling of OCD severity to better differentiate between severe and the most debilitating OCD presentations, among other revisions. The Y-BOCS-II has demonstrated sound psychometric properties across diverse samples. Background: Black women in the US face higher cervical cancer mortality rates due to delayed diagnoses linked to lower screening rates. Contributing factors include provider bias, costs, and limited access, particularly affecting women aged 40-64. While innovative approaches like clinical and home-based HPV self-collection exist, equitable dissemination remains challenging. Distributing HPV self-collection kits in unconventional sites like hair salons may offer a solution. Objective: Condomless sex and its related consequences are a persistent problem on college campuses in the United States. This study aimed to examine the association between condom use self-efficacy and condom-decision abdication among college students, and whether this association was moderated by gender.

Participants & methods: Undergraduate college students (N = 212; 50.5% female) were recruited via Amazon Mechanical Turk as part of a larger online study that examined normative feedback for condom use.

Results: The association between condom use self-efficacy and condom-decision abdication was significantly moderated by gender (B = -0.07, p < .001), such that condom use self-efficacy was associated with condom-decision abdication in college women (B = -0.05, p < .005) but not in college men (B = .02, p = .18).

The American Dental Association and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry encourage oral health professionals to strongly recommend human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination to prevent HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancer. This study examined oral health professionals' knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding HPV vaccination. We used purposive sampling to recruit participants through state and national oral health societies and social media platforms. Flyers outlining eligibility criteria were distributed, and eligible participants completed an online survey. MECOM rearrangements (MECOM-r) are acute myeloid leukaemia (AML)-defining, regardless of blast percentage or MECOM fusion partner. We sought to investigate if blast percentage or MECOM-r partner was associated with overall survival (OS). We included 152 adult patients with newly diagnosed MECOM-r and classified blast percentage into < 20% or ≥20% and MECOM-r partner into classic (GATA2::MECOM) or variant (others). Thirty-one per cent had < 20% blasts, with 69% having ≥20%; 57% had classic and 43% variant MECOM-r. Treatment was with intensive chemotherapy (IC) in 41% and low-intensity therapy (LIT) in 59%. Composite complete remission rates were similar between IC (50%) and LIT (48%, p = 0.99). The median OS was 17 months (95% confidence interval [CI], 12-not estimable [NE]) for < 20% blasts, compared with 9 months (95% CI, 6-10) for ≥20% blasts (p <  0.01). On multivariate analysis, ≥20% blasts were associated with worse OS (hazard ratio [HR] 1.9, [95% CI, 1.2-3.2], p <  0.01), independent of age, MECOM-r partner, additional cytogenetic abnormalities, treatment intensity, addition of venetoclax and stem cell transplant (SCT). HR for IC was 2.0 (95% CI, 1.1-3.7, p = 0.03). In < 20% blasts, variant MECOM-r was independently associated with a reduced hazard of death (HR 0.2 [95% CI, 0.1-0.8], p <  0.01). MECOM-r AML is a heterogenous entity; consideration should be given to LIT approaches.

Background: Muscular strength is a powerful marker of current health status and robust predictor of age-related disease and disability. Handgrip strength (HGS) using isometric dynamometry is a convenient, feasible, and widely used method of assessing muscular strength among people of all ages. While adult HGS norms have been published for many countries, no study has yet synthesized available data to produce international norms. Objective: The U.S. electronic cigarette marketplace is diverse and has evolved rapidly. To provide a standardized research model, the U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse developed the Standard Research E-Cigarette (SREC). This study characterized potential gender differences in product use, acceptability, reinforcement, and nicotine dependence symptoms when switching from combustible cigarettes (CCs) to nicotine and placebo SRECs.

Annual mass drug administration (MDA) is currently recommended for the local elimination of lymphatic filariasis (LF). Modeling studies of LF transmission suggest that conducting MDA twice a year could accelerate LF elimination. To test this idea, we compared the effects of 3 rounds of yearly MDA and 5 rounds of semiannual MDA using diethylcarbamazine with albendazole on LF infection measures in Papua New Guinea (PNG) across 2 treatment areas with high LF prevalence. OBJECTIVE: The late postpartum period, defined as greater than 6 weeks to 12 months, is a high-risk time for individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD). Discontinuation rates of buprenorphine treatment for OUD during this period are high. Little is known about patients' subjective experience with buprenorphine treatment during this time. We sought to assess patient treatment experience, goals, facilitators and barriers to continued buprenorphine treatment throughout the extended postpartum period.
