Background and purpose: Patients with brain tumors have high intersubject variation in putative language regions, which may limit the utility of straightforward application of healthy subject brain atlases in clinical scenarios. The need for echocardiography in pediatric Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia (SAB) remains uncertain. We reviewed 331 pediatric SAB cases. Nine subjects, all with comorbidities, met the echocardiogram criteria for infective endocarditis (IE). IE was associated with congenital heart disease and prolonged bacteremia, suggesting that echocardiography is unnecessary in most children with SAB.

Objective: To describe sociodemographic and racial disparities in receipt of poly ADP-ribose polymerase inhibitors (PARPi) and bevacizumab among insured patients with ovarian cancer.

Methods: This retrospective study used the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER)-Medicare database to identify patients with advanced stage, high grade serous ovarian cancer diagnosed between 2010 and 2019. The primary outcome of interest was receipt of PARPi or bevacizumab at any time after diagnosis. χ2 tests were used to compare categorical variables. Context.—: Perivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComas) are rare mesenchymal tumors of uncertain histogenesis expressing smooth muscle and melanocytic markers. The clinicopathologic spectrum in young patients is not well documented.

Objective.—: To describe a multi-institutional series of PEComas in children, adolescents, and young adults.

Background and aims: Alcohol-associated hepatitis (AH) poses significant short-term mortality. Existing prognostic models lack precision for 90-day mortality. Utilizing artificial intelligence in a global cohort, we sought to derive and validate an enhanced prognostic model.

Background: Findings regarding the protective effect of Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) against Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD) and cognitive decline have been inconclusive.

Methods: Individuals with hypertension who do not have any prior ADRD diagnosis were included in this retrospective cohort study from Optum's de-identified Clinformatics® Data Mart. We identified antihypertensive medication (AHM) drug classes and subclassified ARBs by blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability. We compared baseline characteristics and used the Kaplan-Meier (KM) survival curve and adjusted Cox proportional hazards (PH) model for survival analyses.

BACKGROUND: Racial and ethnic disparities have been reported for HCC prognosis, although few studies fully account for clinically important factors and social determinants of health, including neighborhood socioeconomic status.

METHODS: We conducted a retrospective multicenter cohort study of patients newly diagnosed with HCC from January 2010 through August 2018 at 4 large health systems in the United States. A solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm that can arise at any anatomical site and is characterized by recurrent NAB2::STAT6 fusions and metastatic progression in 10% to 30%. The cell of origin has not been identified. Objective: Both structural (e.g., ageism) and personal (e.g., stigma) barriers hinder older adults' access to and engagement with mental health care. These barriers are particularly problematic for those vulnerable to interpersonal violence and abuse (e.g., due to social isolation). This study presents a quality improvement program aimed at older adults who have experienced significant stressful events, particularly elder mistreatment, within a larger trauma specialty clinic. Leveraging home-based telemedicine, the clinic provides evidence-based psychotherapy tailored to the needs of older adults.

Introduction: Indeterminate liver nodules (ILNs) are frequently encountered on diagnostic imaging after positive hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) surveillance results, but their natural history remains unclear.

Methods: We conducted a multicenter retrospective cohort study among patients with ≥1 newly detected LI-RADS 3 (LR-3) lesion ≥1 cm or LI-RADS 4 (LR-4) lesion of any size (per LI-RADS v2018) between January 2018 and December 2019. Patients were followed with repeat imaging at each site per institutional standard of care. INTRODUCTION: The literature lacks a large-scale study investigating the effect of surgical fixation timing on early mortality and morbidity outcomes in distal femur fractures. The aims of this study were to determine the effect of fixation timing on in-hospital mortality and morbidity outcomes for operatively treated distal femur fractures retrospectively using large database data.

METHODS: This study is a retrospective analysis using data from the National Trauma Data Bank. Patients were stratified into a fragility cohort (age ≥ 60, ISS < 16) and polytrauma cohort (age < 60, ISS ≥16), with both cohorts analyzed separately. Within each cohort, patients were split into three fixation timing groups: within 24 h, between 24 and 48 h, and greater than 48 h from presentation to the hospital. Fixation-timing groups were compared based on the primary outcome of in-hospital mortality rate. BACKGROUND: Acetabular dysplasia has been theorized as a risk factor instability amongst common acetabular fractures, such as posterior wall (PW) fractures. However, common radiographic measurements often cannot be acquired in trauma patients. We evaluated axial computed tomography (CT) scans to identify novel, easily-obtained measurements that correlate with acetabular dysplasia for use in surgical indications and planning.

METHODS: Patients with known acetabular dysplasia undergoing elective periacetabular osteotomy were selected. Purpose: Patients with metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (mTNBC) have poor prognosis and limited treatment options. Sacituzumab govitecan (SG), a Trop-2-directed antibody-drug conjugate, is approved for patients with mTNBC who have received ≥ 2 systemic therapies (≥ 1 in the metastatic setting) based on the ASCENT study (NCT02574455). IMPORTANCE: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is an increasing cause of cirrhosis. Glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) are effective in improving liver inflammation in patients with MASLD.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: A retrospective evaluation of dosimetric predictors and leveraged dose-volume data for gastrointestinal (GI) toxicities for locally-advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC) treated with daily stereotactic MRI-guided online-adaptive radiotherapy (SMART).

MATERIALS AND METHODS: 147 patients with LAPC were treated with SMART at our institution between 2018 and 2021. Autologous transplantation remains the standard of care for eligible multiple myeloma (MM) patients, yet optimal CD34+ cell dose remains unclear. We conducted a retrospective study on MM patients undergoing upfront transplant between 2005 and 2021 and divided them into low (≤2.5 × 106 cells/kg) and high (>2.5 × 106 cells/kg) CD34+ dose groups. We included 2479 patients, 95 in the low CD34+ group and 2384 in the high CD34+ group. Marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) can have varied presentations and pathologic features, including high Ki-67 expression ( > 20%) as well as increased numbers of large B cells (LC). However, there are limited data available demonstrating the prognostic significance of these variables in patients with MZL. In this multi-institutional retrospective cohort study of patients with MZL treated at 10 centers, we evaluated the association between the presence of Ki-67 expression and increased LCs on survival and risk of histologic transformation (HT).
