Individual Differences In Behavioral Responses To Novelty And Amphetamine Self-Administration In Male And Female Rats, J. E. Klebaur, Rick A. Bevins, T. M. Segar, M. T. Bardo

Department of Psychology: Faculty Publications

Previous work has shown that individual differences in locomotor activity in an inescapable novel environment can predict acquisition of amphetamine self-administration. The current study examined whether individual differences in approach to novelty in a free choice test could also predict amphetamine self-administration. Further, the current study examined whether individual differences in either free choice or inescapable novelty tests could predict responding for a nondrug reinforcer (sucrose) in the presence and absence of amphetamine. Male and female rats were first tested for their response to free choice novelty (playground maze and novelty-induced place preference tests) and inescapable novelty. They were then …

Morphological And Microscopical Examination Of The Rat Brachial Plexus, Ahmet Uzun, Nureddi̇n Cengi̇z, Ahmet Kavakli, Saci̇de Karakaş Jan 2001

Morphological And Microscopical Examination Of The Rat Brachial Plexus, Ahmet Uzun, Nureddi̇n Cengi̇z, Ahmet Kavakli, Saci̇de Karakaş

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The rat brachial plexus was studied morphologically and the average numbers of the fascicles were studied by light microscope. For this purpose, we used 30 Wistar albino adult rats (16 males, 14 females; 180-250 g). The rats were anaesthetized by urethane (0.6 ml/100 g body weight injected i.p.). The brachial plexus was prepared for the microdissection technique and was evaluated in terms of its formation. Sections of the origin level of roots (C_5, C_6, C_7, C_8 and Th_1) and the terminal branches (ulnar, median, radial (musculospiral), axillary (circumflex), and musculocutaneous nerves) were taken and the average numbers of fascicles were …

A Study On The Rat Stapedial Artery Under The Dissection Microscope, Cahi̇de Ortuğ Jan 2001

A Study On The Rat Stapedial Artery Under The Dissection Microscope, Cahi̇de Ortuğ

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

The stapedial artery is a rare anomaly in man. However, an undetected persistence of the artery may cause problems during middle ear surgery. The studies on its course are inadequate. The aim of the present paper is to describe the course of the stapedial artery in rats, through an examination under a dissection microscope.

Antiinflammatory And Antipyretic Activity Of Polygonum Lapathifolium In Rats, Oya Keleş, Tülay Bakirel, Süleyman Şener, Handan Aydin, Keri̇m Alpinar Jan 2001

Antiinflammatory And Antipyretic Activity Of Polygonum Lapathifolium In Rats, Oya Keleş, Tülay Bakirel, Süleyman Şener, Handan Aydin, Keri̇m Alpinar

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was conducted to evaluate the pharmacologic effects of Polygonum lapathifolium L. (Polygonaceae), growing naturally in Turkey. The antiinflammatory activity of the ethanol extract of the root and rhizome of P. lapathifolium was evaluated using carrageenan-induced paw edema in rats. Intraperitoneal pretreatment with extract at doses ranging from 100 to 500 mg/kg significantly inhibited the acute phase of this experimental model of the inflammatory process in a dose-dependent manner. At maximal dose (500 mg/kg), it exhibited a significantly higher action when compared with those of other doses and was found to be 1.08 times as active as indomethacin. The …
