Background/aim: This study aims to reveal the prevalence of low handgrip strength in older patients with type 2 diabetes who have diabetic foot disease and to assess the association of handgrip strength with diabetic foot disease in older patients with type 2 diabetes. Background/aim: To determine risk factors associated with the development of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) patients 10 years after giving birth. Materials and methods: Medical records of patients with former GDM were screened. Eligible patients were invited to the hospital to obtain information about their present health status. Background/aim: The aim of this study was to report the clinical characteristics and the treatment outcomes of hand infections in diabetic patients and to review the literature. Materials and methods: The medical records of 17 patients with diabetic hand infections admitted to the Diabetic Foot Care Center of two di erent clinics from January 2012 to October 2017 were reviewed. Background/aim: Quality of life is an important health-related factor that has an impact on all health interventions. The aim of the study was to assess psychosocial outcomes in people with diabetes Materials and methods: A total of 142 people with type 2 diabetes were recruited from a specialist diabetes center. The validated Urdu version of the WHO-5 Well-Being Index was administered for easy understanding of the quality of life of the regional population. Results: The 142 adult participants with diabetes were recruited from a specialist diabetes clinic. The rate of likely depression (WHO-5 score of <28) was 16.9%. Neuropathy was found to have a negative impact on the quality of life in people with diabetes (P 6lt; 0.001). Conclusion: People with complications of diabetes like neuropathy may experience worsening quality of life. It is advised to incorporate the WHO-5 into annual patient reviews as a measure of emotional well-being to drive changes that improve outcomes for people with diabetes.

Background/aim: The aim of this study is to scrutinize the effects of crocin on obesity and type-2 diabetes, with an approach that takes oxidative stress and inflammatory parameters into account. Materials and methods: The experimental obesity model was created by utilizing a 10-week-long high-fat diet (HFD). Background/aim: To determine the prevalence and awareness of diabetes and to evaluate associated factors in a population aged 30 and over in the Balçova district of İzmir, Turkey. Materials and methods: In this cross-sectional study data from 12,915 people who participated in Balçova's Heart Project were evaluated. To determine possible therapeutic effects of oral lycopene supplementation on plasma insulin levels, lipid peroxidation, blood glucose levels, and the antioxidant defense system of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Materials and methods: Classical biochemical methods were used to determine plasma malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione (GSH) levels. Several factors may be responsible for the high prevalence of atherosclerosis in diabetes mellitus, including alterations in reverse cholesterol transport. Determination Of Alkaline Phosphatase Activity In Patients With Different Zinc Metabolic Disorders, Zine Kechrid, Rabah Kenouz

Our purpose was to investigate the effect of different zinc metabolic disorders on alkaline phosphatase activity. Serum zinc, glucose and alkaline phosphatase activity were studied in 32 patients with liver cirrhosis, 30 with chronic renal failure and 42 with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) compared to 42 healthy volunteers. Serum glucose concentration was significantly higher (P < 0.001) in IDDM and liver cirrhosis patients (P < 0.05) compared to the controls. Serum zinc concentrations tended to be lower in all different diseases but did not reach statistical significance. Alkaline phosphatase activity was higher in IDDM (P < 0.05) and liver cirrhosis patients (P < 0.01) compared with the controls. No positive correlation between serum zinc and alkaline phosphatase activity was recorded in any disease. In conclusion, the investigated diseases did not affect the level of serum zinc; however, there was an alteration in alkaline phosphatase activity in patients suffering from diabetes and liver cirrhosis. Consequently, this may be attributed to the functional disturbance that occurred in these patients. Finally, zinc concentration did not follow alkaline phosphatase activity as indicated by the weak correlation obtained.

In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effects of dietary salt restriction and loading on extracellular fluid volume (ECFV), blood pressure (BP), heart rate (HR), glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and renal hypertrophy in diabetic rats. Diabetes was induced by injection of streptozotocin (STZ, 65 mg/kg, iv) into male Wistar rats.
