The Antimicrobial Effects Of Allium Sativum On Escherichia Coli, David Borja, Johnny Aldan, Bsn, Rn Aug 2019

The Antimicrobial Effects Of Allium Sativum On Escherichia Coli, David Borja, Johnny Aldan, Bsn, Rn

Journal of Health Disparities Research and Practice

Allium sativum (Garlic) is an herb that is grown all over the world, and can be found in the homes of many people. This herb has many medicinal properties, but is mainly known for its antimicrobial properties. Fresh garlic contains enzymes called “alliinase” and “alliin”. When garlic is crushed or cut into the alliinase converts the alliin into allicin. Allicin is what gives the garlic its antimicrobial properties and odor.

The antimicrobial activity of the Allium sativum extract was tested on Escherichia coli, a gram-negative bacteria, using the agar-well diffusion method. A test tube containing only Escherichia coli was …

Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy

Aim: Assessment of group-confined likelihood ratio (GCLR) for the symptom ‘Headache’ from among 20 lesser-known remedies clinically verified by the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy during the period 2012–2018. Materials and Methods: Analysis of data of the clinical verification study, which was a multicentric, open-label, observational clinical study conducted at 13 study sites of the council. The 50 medicines that completed the drug proving programme of the council were clinically verified in ascending potencies of 6C, 30C and 200C. Of these, 20 lesser-known medicines allowed analysis of the prevalence and LR of the symptom ‘Headache'. These 20 medicines were …

A Multicentric, Double-Blind Randomized, Homoeopathic Pathogenetic Trial Of Allium Sativum, Raj Manchanda, Anil Khurana, Raj Pal, Bhopal Arya, Anil Vichitra, P Mohanan, Pritha Mehra, Shilpa Sharma Mar 2016

A Multicentric, Double-Blind Randomized, Homoeopathic Pathogenetic Trial Of Allium Sativum, Raj Manchanda, Anil Khurana, Raj Pal, Bhopal Arya, Anil Vichitra, P Mohanan, Pritha Mehra, Shilpa Sharma

Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy

Background: Homoeopathic drug proving is an integral part of Homoeopathic System of Medicine. It is the first step in finding out the pathogenetic powers of a drug. Objective: To elicit the pathogenetic response to Allium sativum in homoeopathic potencies on healthy human provers. Materials and Methods: A multi-center randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind trial was conducted at two centers of the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH). Proving was conducted on 33 healthy provers after the pretrial medical examination. All the provers were given 12 doses of placebo divided in 4 doses/day for 3 days during the first phase of the …

Anti-Helicobacter Pylori Activity And Inhibition Of Helicobacter Pylori-Induced Release Of Il-8 In Ags Cells By Plant Extracts, Javed Yakoob, Zaigham Abbas, Rustam Khan, Muhammad Waqas Usman, Saeed Hamid, Safia Awan, Kanza Shamim, Syed Faisal Zaidi, Toshiro Sugiyama, Wasim Jafri Apr 2013

Anti-Helicobacter Pylori Activity And Inhibition Of Helicobacter Pylori-Induced Release Of Il-8 In Ags Cells By Plant Extracts, Javed Yakoob, Zaigham Abbas, Rustam Khan, Muhammad Waqas Usman, Saeed Hamid, Safia Awan, Kanza Shamim, Syed Faisal Zaidi, Toshiro Sugiyama, Wasim Jafri

Section of Gastroenterology

Plants used in popular diet were studied for anti-Helicobacter pylori activity and their effect on the expression of interleukin-8 (IL-8) from H. pylori infected gastric epithelial cells. Extracts were prepared of Allium sativum (A. sativum), Cuminum cyminum (C. cyminum),Piper nigrum (P. nigrum) and their mix in two different dilutions. AGS cell line and H. pyloristrains were used for co-culture experiments. Extracts bactericidal activity was determined by a viable colony count. ELISA (Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay) was used to determine IL-8 expression. DNA extracted from bacterial cells was used for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) …

Effects Of Garlic On Aerobic Performance, Deni̇z İnal İnce, Gül Ti̇ryaki̇ Sönmez, Mustafa Levent İnce

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

The effects of the administration of a single dose of garlic on the aerobic performance of college endurance athletes were investigated in this study. Ten trained male athletes participated voluntarily in this study. A 900-mg dose of dried garlic powder or placebo was administered randomly in a double-blind cross-over fashion. Five hours after ingestion of the tablets, the subjects underwent an incremental treadmill running test according to the Bruce protocol until subjective exhaustion. During the test, blood pressure and heart rate were monitored at 3 min intervals. After a one-week wash out period, the subjects were crossed over and the …
