Emergency Medical Services (EMS) often serve as the initial entry point for patients into the healthcare system in the United States.  Rural health disparities, geographic isolation, socioeconomic disadvantages, and operational challenges create disparities in access to EMS services.  Disparities include prolonged response times, less resources available, and inequities in levels of care available.  The overall goal of these series of projects was to quantify the extent to which operational challenges in EMS data impact health, and how EMS data could be used to identify neighborhood level trends …

Occupational imbalance and a diminished sense of purpose are common challenges faced during middle age and the transition into retirement. These issues can contribute to increased burnout, decreased participation in meaningful activities, and an overall decline in health and well-being. Occupational therapy is well-equipped to address these concerns through comprehensive and holistic, occupation-based wellness programs that promote healthy routines and engagement in meaningful roles. This doctoral capstone project involved developing and implementing two community-based wellness programs tailored to different populations. Background: The optimal timing for lumbar spine surgery (LSS) relative to symptom duration remains debatable. While surgical delays are common, their impact on postoperative outcomes is not fully elucidated. This study evaluated the relationship between preoperative symptom duration and postoperative outcomes following LSS.

Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted on 60 adults undergoing LSS (decompression and/or fusion) at a single university hospital. Participants were stratified into three groups based on symptom duration:Months, 3-12 months, and >12 months. Background: Accurate estimation of gestational age (GA) is essential for obstetric care. Conventional ultrasound (US) biometric parameters may be limited in certain clinical situations. Fetal foot length (FFL) has been proposed as an alternative measurement, but its role requires further evaluation.

Aim of study: To examine the association between fetal foot length and ultrasound-based gestational age, and to explore its relationship with other fetal biometric parameters in uncomplicated singleton pregnancies.

De très nombreux travailleurs sont exposés quotidiennement à des niveaux de particules dans l’air ambiant qui dépassent largement les concentrations auxquelles la population générale est exposée. Néanmoins, très peu d’études ont porté sur l’influence de l’exposition quotidienne des travailleurs aux particules respirables sur la santé respiratoire. La majorité des études se sont intéressées aux effets des expositions prolongées sur le développement de maladies respiratoires. We examined national trends in donor types, organ recovery, utilization, and discard rates between 2012 and 2023. Methods: We analyzed SRTR/OPTN registry from 2012–2023, including total deaths, DBD (donation after brain death); DCD( donation after circulatory death); NRP (normothermic regional perfusion), organ authorization, recovery, transplantation, and discard rates. This study investigates the difference between the perception of cell phone usage and actual cell phone usage among teenagers in the ninth and twelfth grade levels. Existing literature focuses largely on the effect of screen usage on different aspects of health, including mental health and developmental changes in children. However, the relationship between the perception of screen time and actual screen time use has not been extensively studied. In this study, 111 freshmen and seniors at the Woodbridge Academy Magnet School in Woodbridge, New Jersey completed two online surveys. Myopia, or nearsightedness, has increased rapidly worldwide and is now a major public health concern caused by both genetic and environmental factors. Current understanding shows that too much near work, limited time spent outdoors, and prolonged screen use contribute to abnormal eye growth in individuals who may already have a genetic predisposition. At the molecular level, epigenetic changes and shifts in DNA activity, often influenced by environmental conditions, affect the signaling pathways that regulate eye development and may help explain why myopia is increasingly common among children. This research paper will address the disparities in risk factors for heart disease between genders, gender differences in diagnosis, and gender differences in management/treatment, thereby demonstrating the critical importance of incorporating sex specific factors into the field of cardiology. Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer, and often has poor prognosis. Traditional treatments for breast cancer include chemotherapy, which involves a chemical attack on all growing cells within the body. However, these treatments are not 100% effective, and patients might experience recurrence in their cancer months or years after achieving remission. Cancer cells can evade chemotherapy through five mechanisms: senescence, quiescence, cytoprotective autophagy, and apoptosis/necroptosis suppression. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), including small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) and medium/large extracellular vesicles (MVs), have emerged as promising therapeutic vectors and diagnostic biomarkers across various branches of biomedicine. However, the clinical translation of EV-based technologies remains constrained by persistent challenges in manufacturing: insufficient yield from primary cell sources, limited control over cargo composition, and the absence of scalable, standardized production platforms. Nanosecond pulsed electric fields (nsPEF) represent an emerging biophysical approach that can address several of these limitations.
