Background: Prone positioning has been shown to improve clinical outcomes for sedated, mechanically ventilated individuals with moderate to severe respiratory illnesses. Some studies also show potential benefit to awake individuals with COVID-19.

Objectives: The primary aim of this study was to investigate if hospitalized non-critically ill individuals diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 who engage in frequent proning are more likely to have improved outcomes compared to non-proning individuals.

Metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) represents a rapidly growing cause of chronic liver injury, yet the molecular interactions linking metabolic stress, inflammation, fibrosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain incompletely defined. This thesis integrates transcriptomic analyses across multiple GEO datasets to identify coordinated metabolic, inflammatory, and mechanotransductive pathways that collectively drive disease progression.

Analysis of human liver biopsy datasets (GSE126848 and GSE89632) revealed consistent suppression of glycolysis, β-oxidation, and oxidative phosphorylation across MASLD and MASH samples, accompanied by modest compensatory TCA cycle activation. These alterations reflect impaired metabolic flexibility, mitochondrial stress, and increased ROS susceptibility. Concurrently, cytokine-network enrichment demonstrated activation …

Background Limited information exists on whether virtual training is equivalent to traditional in-person training in supporting the development of clinical providers. Methods A multi-site evaluation using survey methods was conducted with a multidisciplinary group of health professions trainees and supervisors within the Veterans Health Administration to assess the equivalence of two supervision modalities – exclusively in-person supervision and supervision incorporating at least some virtual supervision – on trainee clinical competency development, trainee preparedness to respond to patient emergencies, and effective trainee/supervisor working relationships. Methods: This review utilized the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. To identify the outcomes of the adolescent pregnancies, a wide-ranging search strategy was implemented. Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) is a rare, progressive, and fatal neurodegenerative disorder caused by persistent measles virus infection. Early-onset SSPE in children under five years is uncommon but often rapidly progressive. We report a 24-month-old unvaccinated male who presented with progressive myoclonic seizures, gait difficulty, and rapid neurodevelopmental regression. Electroencephalography (EEG) showed periodic generalized discharges, and CSF measles antibody titers were elevated, fulfilling modified Dyken criteria. The child was classified as stage III SSPE. Symptomatic therapy including anti-seizure medications and supportive care, along with a planned ketogenic diet, was initiated but neurological outcome remained poor. Emerging research indicates that 40% of early childhood education (ECE) workers experience food insecurity. The purpose of this study was to describe the food insecurity and food access of Head Start teachers and staff in Mississippi before the COVID-19 pandemic and to understand how COVID-19 affected food access. Family members who care for patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and dementia often face significant stressors and challenges that impact their quality of life. As part of a project to develop Extension educational materials and resources specifically for family caregivers, we conducted an online needs assessment survey with 196 adults in the U.S. Participants identified doctors, the internet, and caregiver support groups as top sources of information about dementia. They were interested in strategies to help them manage stress, address patient behavioral issues, and access locally available resources. Over the past decade, the North Dakota Health & Human Services Oral Health Program (OHP) has completed more than 23,000 student visits through SEAL!ND, a statewide school-based sealant program that brings preventive dental care directly into schools. In 2024–25, SEAL!ND reached 69 schools across North Dakota, providing dental screenings, sealants, fluoride varnish applications, oral health education, and referrals to students who might otherwise lack access to care.

In 2019, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) launched the “Promotion of Bio-Ethanol as Alternative Clean Fuel for Cooking in the United Republic of Tanzania” project with an aim to promote and distribute 500,000 bioethanol stoves in Dar es Salaam by 2024. The “Proof of Concept” Phase I of the project aimed to sell 110,000 stoves and establish a strong retail market for ethanol fuel. Although one in four Americans experience disability in their lifetimes, the majority of nurses and other healthcare professionals feel ill-prepared to care for patients with disabilities (PWD). Factors such as inaccessible healthcare facilities, insufficient clinical knowledge, and biases about the quality of life of PWD contribute to mounting health inequities between PWD and non-disabled people. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease that commonly leads to respiratory failure. Early respiratory interventions that may improve symptoms and outcomes are underused when prescribed. We sought to characterize patient perspectives and preferences for respiratory care to enable identification of implementation strategies to improve the uptake of ALS respiratory interventions.

METHODS: A prospective multicenter mixed-methods observational study was conducted using semistructured interviews of participants recently diagnosed with ALS at 4 academic centers in the United States. Eligible patients were those with an ALS diagnosis in the previous 12 months, forced vital capacity < 80% predicted normal, or presence of dyspnea or orthopnea.
