Preeclampsia is a common multifactorial disease of pregnancy. Dysregulation of complement activation is among emerging candidates responsible for disease pathogenesis. In a targeted exomic sequencing study of 609 women with preeclampsia and 2092 non-preeclamptic controls, we identified 14 variants within nine genes coding for components of the membrane attack complex (MAC, C5b-9) that are associated with preeclampsia. We found two rare missense variants in the C5 gene that predispose to preeclampsia (rs200674959: I1296V, OR (CI95) = 24.13 (1.25-467.43), p value = 0.01 and rs147430470: I330T, OR (CI95) = 22.75 (1.17-440.78), p value = 0.01). INTRODUCTION: Having a lower socioeconomic status (SES) is a predictor of age-related chronic conditions, including chronic low back pain (cLBP). We aimed to examine whether the pace of biological aging mediates the relationship between SES and cLBP outcomes - pain intensity, pain interference, and physical performance.

METHODS: We used the Dunedin Pace of Aging Calculated from the Epigenome (DunedinPACE) software to determine the pace of biological aging in adults ages 18 to 85 years with no cLBP (n = 74), low-impact pain (n = 56), and high-impact pain (n = 77).

A 10-year-old sterilized female DSH cat was referred to the Small Animal Teaching Hospital (SATH), Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University for diagnosis and treatment. She was quiet, alert, and responsive (QAR) and had a normal appetite. The clinical sign of upper respiratory distress with stridor had been presented for more than three months. Computed tomography (CT) and radiography examination were used for diagnosis, and the results showed a soft tissue mass in the nasopharyngeal region. The Effects Of Dietary Level Of Mulberry Leaf Powder On Growth Performance, Carcass Yields, And Some Serum Lipid Levels In Pradu-Hang-Dam Chickens During Cool And Rainy Seasons, Sarawanee Khunmanee, Thuwanon Boonkerd, Thananon Junsuri, Winai Kaewlamun, Pachara Pearodwong, Kajohn Nitiwararak

This study aimed to determine the optimal concentration of mulberry leaf powder (MLP) supplementation and to evaluate the impact of different seasons on the growth performance, carcass characteristics, and blood lipid levels of Pradu-Hang-Dam chickens. One-week-old chickens were assigned to three groups: a control group (without MLP) and two groups receiving diets supplemented with 0.5% and 1.5% MLP, respectively, over a 10-week period. The results indicated that during the cool season, the control group exhibited the highest feed intake, average daily gain, and superior carcass characteristics (P < 0.05). In the rainy season, chickens supplemented with 1.5% MLP achieved the highest feed intake, while those supplemented with 0.5% MLP showed the highest average daily gain and the lowest feed conversion ratio (P < 0.05). Furthermore, the 1.5% MLP group demonstrated superior carcass characteristics compared to the control group during the rainy season (P < 0.05). Analysis of blood lipid metabolism revealed that the group supplemented with 0.5% MLP during the cool season had the lowest levels of triglycerides, cholesterol, and high-density lipoprotein. In conclusion, the cool season is the most favorable for raising Pradu-Hang-Dam chickens in Thailand. Additionally, supplementing diets with at least 0.5% MLP during the rainy season can improve growth performance, carcass characteristics, and blood parameters.

Thirty Acinetobacter baumannii from animal origins were obtained from 210 animal carcasses submitted for post-mortem examination, including dogs (n=112), cats (n=45), rabbits (n=17), birds (n=15), pigs (n=7) and exotic animals (n=14). All the isolates were evaluated for antimicrobial susceptibility with absence and presence of efflux inhibitors i.e. reserpine and carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP) and expression profile of important six multidrug efflux systems (i.e. AdeABC, AdeDE, AdeFGH, AdeIJK, AbeM and AmvA). The aim of the following work was to investigate and compare curcumin and cayenne pepper in microbeads composed of sodium alginate (SA) crosslinked with montmorillonite (MMT) to act as drug carriers and their antimicrobial resistance. The microbeads were prepared through ion-exchange in multivalent solutions of CaCl₂, MgCl₂ and AlCl₃. Athletes and teams typically obtain an advantage when competing at home, a phenomenon known as home advantage (HA). This study investigates the longitudinal effect of HA in the Brazilian Football Championship (Série A) over 21 seasons, analyzing 8,405 matches from 2003 to 2023. The results showed that the average HA was 35.1 ± 7.7%, while the competitive balance (CB) was 0.838 ± 0.145. A negative, non-significant correlation (r = -0.321, p = 0.157) was found between HA and CB, with CB explaining 10.3% of HA variation in the Brazilian league. Manganese, an essential trace mineral, plays crucial roles in various physiological processes within living organisms. However, excessive exposure to manganese can lead to toxicity, particularly impacting the central nervous system. This study aimed to assess the impact of manganese exposure on locomotor behavior during early development using zebrafish (Danio rerio) as a model organism. Zebrafish embryos at 1–2 hours post fertilization (hpf) were exposed to five different concentrations of manganese chloride (0, 0.01, 0.05, 0.1, or 0.5 mM) until 120 hpf. The program utilized a comprehensive needs assessment, including interviews, interest screening, and observations, to identify participants' preferences and barriers to participation.
