Evaluation Of A Workshop To Improve Professional Transitions Among Nursing Students And Nurses, Andrew Richards

Achieve

New nurses and nurses experiencing a professional transition often regress through Benner's novice to expert stages and are at risk for transition shock and crisis (Murray et al., 2019). New graduate nurses experience challenges adjusting to their new roles, but educational and organizational factors can help provide support during this time of transition (Baharum et al., 2023). Simulation experiences can enhance students' confidence and help prepare them for practice (Woods et al., 2015). Situational and personal factors influence the professional development and retention of new nurses (Laschinger et al., 2016). Many new nurses struggle with adjusting to the profession and …

Human mitochondrial tRNAs (mt-tRNAs), critical for mitochondrial biogenesis, are frequently associated with pathogenic mutations. These mt-tRNAs have unusual sequence motifs and require post-transcriptional modifications to stabilize their fragile structures. However, whether a modification that stabilizes a wild-type (WT) mt-tRNA would also stabilize its pathogenic variants is unknown. Here we show that the N1-methylation of guanosine at position 9 (m1G9) of mt-Leu(UAA), while stabilizing the WT tRNA, has a destabilizing effect on variants associated with MELAS (mitochondrial myopathy, encephalopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke-like episodes). This differential effect is further demonstrated, as removal of the m1G9 …

Mitral Valve Prolapse With Syncope: Don’T Judge The Book By Its Cover! - Case Report, Ghadah A. Alarify, Lama A. Alrumaih, Sameer Qetab, Wael Alqarawi

Journal of the Saudi Heart Association

A 33-year-old female with recurrent syncope episodes showed normal ECG and Holter results, but had mitral valve prolapse (MVP) with moderate mitral regurgitation (MR) on an echocardiogram. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) revealed mitral annulus disjunction (MAD) with fibrosis. She received an implantable loop recorder (ILR). Months later, she had a syncope correlating with self-terminating polymorphic VT (PMVT) preceded by narrow complex tachycardia, which was proven to be atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT) in an electrophysiology study. Post-ablation, she had no recurrences of syncope. This case highlights the importance of ILR in avoiding unnecessary ICDs in MVP patients with syncope. .

Cancer is a significant health challenge globally, with millions of people affected every year, resulting in high morbidity and mortality. Although other treatment options are available with limitations, chemotherapy, either standalone or combined with other therapeutic procedures, is the most commonly used practice of treating cancer. In chemotherapy, cancer cells/malignant tumors are targeted; however, due to less target specificity, along with malignant cells, normal cells are also affected, which leads to various off-target effects (side effects) that impact the patient quality of life. Out of all the different types of cancers, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer …
