Objective: To understand if children living in the home modify the relationship between health insurance and smoking.

Methods: This analysis used the 2021 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System Survey. The outcome was being a current smoker with health insurance as the exposure. The analysis was stratified by children to determine if children changed how having health insurance impacted smoking. The odds ratios for each stratum were compared to determine if children was a modifying factor.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and screening for breast and colorectal cancer in adulthood.

Methods: This cross-sectional study utilized nationwide survey data from the 2022 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). Data regarding ACEs and compliance with breast and colorectal cancer screening guidelines were analyzed from 12 states. Weighted logistic regression models were used to assess the relationship between ACEs and breast cancer screening compliance in a population of 18,369 women, and colorectal cancer screening compliance in a population of 30,884 men and women. Objective: To determine if reporting adverse childhood experiences (ACE) is linked to depression in adults, taking into consideration the influence of sociodemographic factors.

Methods: A secondary analysis was performed using the cross-sectional 2022 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) survey data. Twelve states included the optional ACE module, respondents who did not answer the questions about depression, education, or at least one ACE question were excluded from the analysis. The study population included 59,860 respondents. We examined the relationship between depression and ACE by using weighted univariate analysis, bivariate models, and logistic regressions.

Objectives. To examine the association between frequency of marijuana use among informal caregivers of persons with dementia (PWD) and other health conditions compared to non-caregivers in 20 U.S. states.

Methods. We used complex survey data from the optional modules Caregiver and Marijuana Use of the 2021 BRFSS survey. Univariate and bivariate analyses were performed to determine the frequency and distribution of sample population characteristics and calculate crude relationships. Ordinal logistic regression modelled the relationship between the three-level outcome and covariates.

In 2022, California passed a legislative bill, SB 1338: the Community Assistance, Recovery, and Empowerment (CARE) Act, which created a new statewide procedure for treating mentally ill homeless adults diagnosed with psychotic disorders through a court-ordered CARE plan. SB 1338 intends to alleviate the mental health and homeless crisis. Background: Genomic medicine is revolutionizing the diagnosis of rare diseases, but the implementation has not benefited underrepresented populations to the same degree. Here, we report the case of a 7-year-old boy with hypotonia, global developmental delay, strabismus, seizures, and previously suspected mitochondrial myopathy. This proband comes from an underrepresented minority and was denied exome sequencing by his public insurance.

Objectives: To describe RDS in neonatal deaths at the CHAMPS-Kenya site between 2017 and 2021.

Methods: We included 165 neonatal deaths whose their Causes of death (COD) were determined by a panel of experts using data from post-mortem conducted through minimally invasive tissue specimen testing, clinical records, and verbal autopsy.

Results: Twenty-six percent (43/165) of neonatal deaths were attributable to RDS. Most cases occurred in low birthweight and preterm neonates. From these cases, less than half of the hospitalizations were diagnosed with RDS before death, and essential diagnostic tests were not performed in most cases. Differences in the cervicovaginal microbiota are associated with spontaneous preterm birth (sPTB), a significant cause of infant morbidity and mortality. Although establishing a direct causal link between cervicovaginal microbiota and sPTB remains challenging, recent advancements in sequencing technologies have facilitated the identification of microbial markers potentially linked to sPTB. Despite variations in findings, a recurring observation suggests that sPTB is associated with a more diverse and less stable vaginal microbiota across pregnancy trimesters. This paper investigates fairness and bias in Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA), a widely used statistical technique for examining the relationship between two sets of variables. We present a framework that alleviates unfairness by minimizing the correlation disparity error associated with protected attributes. Our approach enables CCA to learn global projection matrices from all data points while ensuring that these matrices yield comparable correlation levels to group-specific projection matrices. Experimental evaluation on both synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrates the efficacy of our method in reducing correlation disparity error without compromising CCA accuracy.

The lack of a reliable and specific marker for ferroptosis has hindered the advancement of treatments related to this cell death mechanism toward clinical application. A recent study published in Molecular Cell has identified hyperoxidized peroxiredoxin 3 (PRDX3) as a promising marker for ferroptosis, opening up new avenues for monitoring and targeting ferroptosis in disease treatment.

Recent statistics on lung cancer, including the steady decline of advanced diseases and the dramatically increasing detection of early-stage diseases and indeterminate pulmonary nodules, mark the significance of a comprehensive understanding of early lung carcinogenesis. PURPOSE: Ataxia-telangiectasia mutated (ATM) is the most frequently mutated DNA damage repair gene in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the molecular correlates of ATM mutations and their clinical implications have not been fully elucidated.

EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Clinicopathologic and genomic data from 26,587 patients with NSCLC from MD Anderson, public databases, and a de-identified nationwide (US-based) NSCLC clinicogenomic database (CGDB) were used to assess the co-mutation landscape, protein expression, and mutational processes in ATM-mutant tumors. Background: Surgical management of an anterior leaflet prolapse remains comparatively challenging and has led to the lack of any firmly established standard repair techniques, as seen in cases of posterior leaflet prolapse. Background: Catheter ablation is an established therapy for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF). The TactiFlex Ablation Catheter, Sensor Enabled (TactiFlex SE) is a next-generation radiofrequency ablation catheter incorporating fiber optics-based contact force-sensing technology with a flexible, laser-cut tip.

Objective: The study sought to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the TactiFlex SE ablation catheter for treatment of drug-refractory PAF.

Importance: Intra-arterial chemotherapy (IAC) has quickly gained popularity as a mainstay of treatment for retinoblastoma. Intra-arterial chemotherapy has been described as having several advantages over systemic chemotherapy, including reducing systemic toxicity and neutropenia; however, studies on the risk of neutropenia after IAC remain limited.

Objective: To estimate the incidence of neutropenia after IAC, as well as identify risk factors associated with the development of neutropenia.
