Manipal Journal of Medical Sciences

The existing research on Indian classical music therapy faces several challenges that need attention for the field’s growth and credibility. Most studies rely on anecdotal evidence rather than rigorous scientific methodology, necessitating more controlled trials and longitudinal research. The rich diversity of ragas and talas in Indian classical music poses a challenge in standardizing their therapeutic application. Cultural sensitivity is crucial due to the deeply rooted nature of this therapy in Indian culture, and generalizing findings to diverse populations requires careful consideration. Meningitis causes significant morbidity and mortality in paediatrics and globally account for 180,000 deaths each year. In India, meningitis is the leading cause of mortality in children below five years of age and accounts to 22% of death. Current work is aimed to design a real time-PCR based method to identify and characterize the meningitis pathogens and provide an early, rapid and accurate diagnosis of meningitis as it carries high rate of mortality, especially with delay in diagnosis. In addition, our group is working on diabetic foot infection pathogens using molecular genotyping approaches of MLST, MLVA and ribosomal sequencing.

Language Development And Disorders, Sudhin Karuppali Dr.

Health collection

The field of language development and its disorders is a widely researched area in the field of speech-language pathology. However, language development in the Indian population is vaguely studied, probably because of the diversity of languages and cultures in this country. This has time and again resulted in difficulties in estimating the language levels of children with language impairments, consequently becoming challenging to prepare customized interventional plans. The lack of standardized language assessment tools has always been a concern in clinical practice. This lacuna in establishing accurate language levels has been observed in the adolescent population as well, which is …

Manipal Journal of Medical Sciences

Newer treatment modalities such as non-invasive brain stimulation techniques including transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) are being studied for the treatment of depression. In this paper a patient is reported with treatment-resistant depression who responded to treatment with a novel cathodal tDCS primed intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) protocol targeted at the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex administered over five consecutive days. Possibly, the inhibitory effect of cathodal-tDCS facilitates the excitatory effects of iTBS by homeostatic metaplasticity and improves efficacy by reducing the inter-hemispheric imbalance in prefrontal cortex activity.
