Health Insurance Program For The Poor, Out-Of-Pocket Costs, And Catastrophic Health Expenditures In India, Shyamkumar Sriram

Theses and Dissertations

Background

India is currently taking steps to provide Universal Health Coverage (UHC) as envisaged in its National Health Policy 2017. Financial protection is considered the backbone of UHC. In India, OOP expenses accounts for about 62.6% of total health expenditure - one of the highest in the world. Out of 1.324 billion people in India, around 12.4% of the population is below the poverty line. Lack of health insurance coverage and inadequate coverage are important reasons for high OOP health expenditures. High OOP health expenditures push many households into poverty. The objective of this research is to examine the effect …

Natural Medicines, Neyda V. Gilman Jul 2019

Natural Medicines, Neyda V. Gilman

Library Scholarship

Natural Medicines is a robust and authoritative resource for information related to complementary and alternative medicines, natural therapies, natural ingredients, and natural products. The content is evidence-based with the aim of being as objective and unbiased as possible, and monographs in the database include references for the information provided (Natural Medicines 2019a). It is a fee-based subscription product, but pricing is generally fair and it can be bundled with other resources of interest. There are some inconveniences, such as not working with discovery services or allowing Boolean or quotation searching, but overall the database is easy to use, reliable, and …

Nonpharmacologic Treatment Of Generalized Anxiety Disorder: Put Your Mind To It, Roseanna M. Pauli Apr 2019

Nonpharmacologic Treatment Of Generalized Anxiety Disorder: Put Your Mind To It, Roseanna M. Pauli

Physician Assistant Capstones

Since GAD is usually a life-long disorder, selecting a therapy that is both effective and safe is essential. The relative safety of nonpharmacologic therapies compared to drug therapy, coupled with the preference to avoid medications, are factors favoring nonpharmacologic means for control of GAD. Whether one form of nonpharmacologic therapy is superior in efficacy to another, specifically whether CBT is better in adult patients, is worth examining. In addition, because this disorder is chronic, the durability of therapeutic actions is important, for which reason evidence confirming symptom control for at least one year’s duration is preferable.

The Use Of Dietary Interventions In Pediatric Patients, Shirin Madzhidova, Lusine Sedrakyan

PCOM Scholarly Papers

Complementary and alternative treatment approaches are becoming more common among children with chronic conditions. The prevalence of CAM use among US adults was estimated to be around 42% in 2015 and around 44% to 50% among adults with neurologic disorders. Studies demonstrate that children with certain chronic illnesses such as asthma, cancer, genetic disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and other neurodevelopmental disorders are treated with complementary and alternative treatments at higher rates. Dietary therapies are gaining increasing popularity in the mainstream population. Although the majority of "fad" diets do not have enough supporting evidence, some dietary therapies have been utilized for …

A Qualitative Examination Of Vaccine Hesitancy Among Mothers, Alicia L. Benner, Annie Vasterling, Teia Wolter Jan 2019

A Qualitative Examination Of Vaccine Hesitancy Among Mothers, Alicia L. Benner, Annie Vasterling, Teia Wolter

All Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Vaccine hesitancy describes the reluctance to vaccinate or the delay of vaccines (World Health Organization [WHO], 2017a). Various factors contribute to vaccine hesitancy for patients (Salmon, Dudley, Glanz, & Somer, 2015), and multiple sources are used by patients to gain vaccine information (Salmon et al., 2015), making it difficult for healthcare providers to address vaccine hesitancy. This research was conducted to identify factors that cause mothers to be vaccine hesitant and information sources used to support the mothers’ vaccination beliefs. Phone interviews were conducted with twelve vaccine hesitant mothers. Participants were asked if the following factors contributed to their vaccine …

Patient Disclosure Of Complementary And Alternative Medicine And The Patient-Provider Relationship, Kathryn V. Ortmann, Norsha Scheil, Thomas Stearns

All Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is becoming increasingly prevalent in the United States, with notable usage of supplements, deep breathing exercises, and chiropractic care. Despite this influx of CAM, nearly half of patients do not report their CAM use to their medical provider (Jou & Johnson, 2016). Disclosing these practices to a medical provider is pertinent to patient safety, as a number of potential drug interactions and side effects are associated with different CAM practices. Current literature illustrates specific provider attributes help facilitate an open dialogue with patients, or more specifically, a positive patient-provider relationship. This research study examines if …
