Pediatric Type Ii Diabetes Mellitus: Examining The Upward Trend, Allison Foering
Pediatric Type Ii Diabetes Mellitus: Examining The Upward Trend, Allison Foering
Senior Honors Theses
In recent years, there has been a significant increase in pediatric onset of type II diabetes. This paper will examine elements contributing to this trend. Type II diabetes will be discussed, including related pathophysiology, manifestations, diagnosis, and complications, with differentiation between adult and pediatric onset. Possible prevention and treatment methods appropriate for pediatric patients will also be discussed, along with possible outcomes in pediatric patients that could result from this disease. Overall, this paper will provide insight on the causes of this growing trend, and ways to improve the risks imposed on pediatric patients.
Association Between Thyroid Status And Glucose Intolerance Inhyperthyroid Patients, Wismandari Wisnu, Pradana Soewondo, Imam Subekti
Association Between Thyroid Status And Glucose Intolerance Inhyperthyroid Patients, Wismandari Wisnu, Pradana Soewondo, Imam Subekti
Jurnal Penyakit Dalam Indonesia
Introduction. The most common endocrinopathy in adults are diabetes mellitus (DM) and thyroid disease. Hyperthyroidism decreases blood glucose control and increased the need of insulin. However, the mechanism of abnormal glucose metabolism in hyperthyroidism is not fully understood. This study aims to determine the relationship of thyroid status with incidence of glucose intolerance in hyperthyroid patients compared to hyperthyroid patients who have achieved clinical status of eutyroid and normal population. Methods. This study was cross sectional design in outpatients with hyperthyroidism in hyperthyroid and euthyroid/subclinical hyperthyroid status, and healthy volunteers who had matching age and sex. An oral glucose test …

Obesity has been postulated to increase the risk of colorectal cancer by mechanisms involving insulin resistance and the metabolic syndrome. We examined the associations of body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, the metabolic syndrome, metabolic obesity phenotypes and homeostasis model-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR-a marker of insulin resistance) with risk of colorectal cancer in over 21,000 women in the Women's Health Initiative CVD Biomarkers subcohort. Women were cross-classified by BMI (18.5-
Does A Family History Of Type 2 Diabetes Affect Exercise Induced Improvements In Insulin Sensitivity, Metabolic Flexibility, And Myokine Expression In Mexican-American Males?, Manuel Amador
Open Access Theses & Dissertations
A family history of diabetes (FH+) is considered a risk factor for the development of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. However, it is not known whether exercise induced improvement in insulin sensitivity (IS) and metabolic flexibility (MF) are impacted by a FH+. Purpose: To determine if a FH+ limits exercise induced improvements in Insulin sensitivity, MF, body composition, and strength following an 8-week combined aerobic and resistance training intervention compared to those without a family history of diabetes (FH-). Methods: 19 (FH- n=9, age 21.89 ± 0.60 years, BMI 27.51 ± 1.68 kg/m2; FH+ n=10, age 23.41 ± 0.86 …

Global Issues in Public Health
The purpose of this two page educational document is to inform not only educators, but also students about the description of type two diabetes and what populations are affected, the epidemiology of type 2 diabetes, including how get diagnosed and how that diagnosis will affect specific outcomes, and the solutions to how we can prevent or begin to cure type 2 diabetes. This brief project shows plenty of statistics revolving around these main points. Research shows that “type 2 diabetes already causes 5 million deaths per year, expecting to become the 7th cause of death globally by 2030” (Alidrisi & …
Oral Glucose Insulin Secretion Test For Identifying Patients With Insulin Resistance, David Kershner
Oral Glucose Insulin Secretion Test For Identifying Patients With Insulin Resistance, David Kershner
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Insulin resistance is an increasing public health issue with the current literature, suggesting reduced sensitivity of insulin leads to adult onset diabetes and associated downstream pathologies that reduce life expectancy. The main objectives of this study were to evaluate the ability of the Oral Glucose Insulin Secretion Test (OGIST) to identify insulin resistance and examine differences in the insulin sensitivity based on gender, age, and ethnicity. This study was supported by the insulin resistance theory which focuses on the reduced ability of insulin to bind to the cellular insulin receptor, reducing the sensitivity of insulin. The OGIST lab results of …
