Purpose To examine ondansetron use in pregnancy in the context of other antiemetic use among a large insured United States population of women delivering live births.

Methods We assessed ondansetron and other antiemetic use among pregnant women delivering live births between 2001 and 2015 in 15 data partners contributing data to the Mini-Sentinel Distributed Database. We identified live birth pregnancies using a validated algorithm, and all forms of ondansetron and other available antiemetics were identified using National Drug Codes or procedure codes. We assessed the prevalence of antiemetic use by trimester, calendar year, and formulation.

Cocooning refers to the vaccination of family members and caregivers in close contact with the infant to protect the infant by lowering risk of acquiring pertussis from close contact through an infected family member.

Current smoking cessation guidelines recommend nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) to assist pregnant smokers to quit, but this is without strong evidence for effectiveness and safety. Nicotine, the main addictive component of tobacco, is known to exert physiological effects by binding to its receptor, the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR). Recent studies have identified the presence of nAChRs in non-neuronal cells, and in macrophages, functional alteration upon stimulation with nicotine has been documented.

This study was conducted to quantify endometrial and luteal changes in early pregnant and cyclic cows by ODI analysis. Twenty healthy primiparous Simmental cows on days 80?120 postpartum were subjected to ultrasonography and ODI analysis on the days of estrus (day 0) and metestrus (day 4) as well as 12, 15, 18, and 21 days after insemination. BACKGROUND: Recommendations for vitamin D supplementation for preterm infants span a wide range of doses. Response to vitamin D supplementation and impact on outcomes in preterm infants is not well understood.

OBJECTIVE: Evaluate serum 25(OH)D3 concentration changes after 4 weeks in response to two different doses of vitamin D3 supplementation in a population of premature infants and quantify the impact on NICU outcomes.

While the health risks associated with adult cigarette smoking have been well described, effects of nicotine exposure during periods of developmental vulnerability are often overlooked. Using MEDLINE and PubMed literature searches, books, reports and expert opinion, a transdisciplinary group of scientists reviewed human and animal research on the health effects of exposure to nicotine during pregnancy and adolescence. A synthesis of this research supports that nicotine contributes critically to adverse effects of gestational tobacco exposure, including reduced pulmonary function, auditory processing defects, impaired infant cardiorespiratory function, and may contribute to cognitive and behavioral deficits in later life. The aim of this study was to characterize changes in free triiodothyronine (fT3), free thyroxine (fT4) and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) during the follicular and luteal phase and during subsequent early pregnancy in individual women.

Penobscot County, Maine has among the highest rates of marijuana use in the country, and Maine has recently voted to legalize recreational use of marijuana. Research has shown that pregnant women frequently seek out and are dissatisfied with information regarding the safety of marijuana use during pregnancy. We surveyed Family Medicine providers at the Center for Family Medicine at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor Maine regarding their counseling of pregnant patients on the topic of marijuana use. From the results, we created an information sheet to aid providers in marijuana use counseling with pregnant women.
