Kisspeptin (KP) and the KP receptor (Kiss1r) are integral to central regulation of the gonadotropic-axis. The demonstration that intravenous infusion of KP can stimulate gonadotropin secretion and ovulation in seasonally anestrous female sheep offers a means of manipulating the reproductive axis. However, KP may be of limited clinical use because of the short circulating half-life. Kiss1r agonists with increased half-life and similar efficacy to KP in vitro potentially may provide beneficial applications in breeding management of many species. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of 2 different transport temperatures on the in vitro maturation of oocytes collected from frozen-thawed sheep ovaries. Sheep ovaries were transferred into saline at temperatures of 4 °C and 32 °C. After the 2 experimental groups (A: fresh cortex, B: frozen-thawed cortex) were formed, each group was divided into 2 subgroups (group A1: 4 °C, group A2: 32 °C [control]; group B1: 4 °C, group B2: 32 °C). The aim of this study was to determine the levels of serum selenium in coarse-haired Pomeranian sheep and to evaluate the effect of the oral supplementation of selenized yeast on selected performance parameters in such sheep. The sheep were divided into 2 groups, with 53 ewes forming the experimental group and 34 ewes forming the control group. Scrapie is a fatal neurodegenerative disease affecting small ruminants that causes economic losses in many countries. It is categorized together with other fatal neurodegenerative diseases as a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy. The aim of this study was to investigate clinical cases and the cause of death in a flock of sheep from Northern Cyprus (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) suspected of having scrapie. The objective of this study was to investigate the presence of mycoplasmas in the respiratory system of sheep and goat populations managed under extensive production systems. Specific culture and polymerase chain reaction techniques were performed on a total of 88 lung tissue samples and 142 nasal swabs obtained from multiple herds in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A total of 29 samples (12.6%) were found to be positive for mycoplasmas.
