Introduction

Haiti has the highest prevalence of HIV infection in Latina America and the Caribbean. The country faces the worst AIDS epidemic outside Africa and bears the greatest burden of HIV in the western hemisphere. Studies in the past recent years show that HIV/AIDS is most likely to be seen in developed countries. People with low education level and appropriate knowledge about STD’s are more susceptible to get HIV. Lifestyle behaviors represent significant factors in HIV transmission. Purpose: The SenseWearTM Armband is an activity monitor developed to improve lifestyle self-monitoring. Currently, few studies assess electronic self-monitoring and weight loss with a lifestyle intervention program. To our knowledge, only one study has used the SenseWear Armband in combination with a lifestyle intervention to improve weight loss, and no studies have evaluated whether a self-monitoring intervention based solely on the armband can promote weight loss. Objetivou-se analisar o estilo de vida de estudantes de enfermagem por meio de um estudo exploratório, descritivo e com abordagem quantitativa. Verificou-se que os estudantes ingeriam apenas dois grupos de alimentos (“verduras e frutas” ou “verduras e grãos”); 54,2% não praticava atividade física; 57,8% deles dormiam menos de sete horas/ dia; havia grande proporção de estudantes-trabalhadores; 9,9% de fumantes e a frequência do uso de tabaco foi de 52,6% fumando de 2 a 5 cigarros/ dia, e 26,3% fumando de 1 a 3 maços de cigarros/ semana; 27,1% de estudantes etilistas e destes, 42,3% desses fazem o uso de álcool …

Background: Many cancer survivors are still not active enough to reap the benefits of physical activity. This study aimed to explore the correlation between perceived barriers and participation in exercise among multiethnic Malaysian women with breast cancer. Methods: A cross-sectional study using a pre-post questionnaire and a media-clip as a cancer control strategy was conducted on a random sample of women with breast cancer. The tools were structured questionnaires to collect socio-medical demographic and physical activity data (e.g. barriers, exercise self-efficacy). Utilizing a descriptive quantitative design to guide data collection and analysis, 11 of the 14 clinics in the State of Minnesota that participate in the SagePlus program were selected by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to participate in this study. Little is known about the effectiveness of the SagePlus newsletter as a motivational tool for influencing behavior change. The purpose of this study was to determine the reading level of the SagePlus newsletter and to evaluate the effectiveness of the SagePlus newsletter as a communication and motivational tool for SagePlus participants. A nonexperimental, descriptive correlational design was used in this study. Forty English speaking participants were contacted and agreed to participate in the telephone survey from a potential list of 190 participants.
