Dartmouth Scholarship

The neutralizing antibody response to the protective antigen (PA) component of anthrax toxin elicited by approved anthrax vaccines is an accepted correlate for vaccine-mediated protection against anthrax. We reasoned that a human anti-PA monoclonal antibody (MAb) selected on the basis of superior toxin neutralization activity might provide potent protection against anthrax. The fully human MAb (also referred to as MDX-1303 or Valortim) was chosen from a large panel of anti-PA human MAbs generated using transgenic mice immunized with recombinant PA solely on the basis of in vitro anthrax toxin neutralization. This MAb was effective in prophylactic and postsymptomatic treatment of …

Nucleic Acids Encoding Sarcocystis Neurona Antigen And Uses Thereof, Daniel K. Howe Jun 2006

Nucleic Acids Encoding Sarcocystis Neurona Antigen And Uses Thereof, Daniel K. Howe

Veterinary Science Faculty Patents

The present invention provides novel isolated nucleic acids encoding antigenic proteins derived from Sarcocystis neurona, or unique fragments thereof. In particular, the invention provides novel isolated nucleic acids encoding membrane-associated polypeptides SnSAG2, SnSAG3, and SnSAG4. Also provided are purified antigenic polypeptide fragments encoded by the novel nucleic acid sequences set forth herein that encode for SnSAG2, SnSAG3, and SnSAG4. Also provided are isolated nucleic acids capable of selectively hybridizing with the nucleic acid from Sarcocystis neurona. The invention also provides vectors comprising the nucleic acids of the invention encoding an antigenic protein derived from Sarcocystis neurona or …

In Vitro Expression And Purification Of Class I Mhc Molecules, Loi Cheng May 2006

In Vitro Expression And Purification Of Class I Mhc Molecules, Loi Cheng

Honors Scholar Theses

The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) is a gene family responsible for many critical functions of the immune system in most vertebrates. The MHC consists of three classes differentiated by their structure and function, and MHC class I encodes antigen binding proteins as well as chaperone and accessory proteins such as tapasin. The purpose of this project is to reconstitute several human MHC class I molecules in their peptide-filled and peptide-deficient forms, and to purify these proteins for biochemical study. The expressed proteins include wild type and mutant variants of the fusion protein human leukocyte antigen HLA-B*0801-fos, and human beta-2-microglobulin (β2m). …

Evaluación De Anticuerpos Contra El Virus De La Diarrea Viral Bovina De Un Hato En Proceso De Erradicación De La Enfermedad., Zuniga Alfonso H., Hermelinda G. Rivera, Mariluz Araínga, Alberto Manchego S.

Journal Articles: Pharmacology & Experimental Neuroscience

Antibodies against viral bovine diarrhea virus (BVDV) and of BVDV antigen in serum samples Were evaluated from cattle aged 10 to 23 months (n = 148) from a dairy herd disease eradication where the has-been carrying out since 2002. The herd is located in Santa Rita, Arequipa, Peru, and samples were collected twice on a 30-day interval. Antibodies against BVDV and BVDV antigen were analyzed by viral neutralization and capture ELISA tests respectively. Neutralising antibodies against BVDV were detected in 6.8% (10/148) of animals, and most reactors were 19 to 23 months of age. The antibody titer ranged from 8 …
