A comparative study of the Rose Bengal test (RBT), Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and complement fixation test (CFT) was performed to analyze sera of two Awassi flocks. Flock A was composed of 215 ewes, naturally infected with brucellosis. None of the animals were vaccinated. Flock B consisted of 336 non-infected non-vaccinated ewes. These served as nega-tive controls. The two flocks were each divided into 4 groups, and samples were collected from one group every 6 months and subjected to bacteriologic and serologic testing. A Deficiency In The Slow Moving Immunoglobulin In Awassi Sheep, N. Q. Hailat, S. Q. Lafi

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

A deficiency in the slow moving gamma globulin in an eight-month-old emaciated female Awassi sheep is described. Analysis of serum protein electrophoresis (SPE) on cellulose acetate of this sheep revealed the presence of three fractions only; albumin (alb), a and b compared with that of the normal sheep which showed four fractions (alb, a and b and g).This finding occurred in a ewe which belonged to a closed breeding system awassi flock. Results of agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID) test using rabbit anti-sheep IgG showed precipitate line with the serum of this sheep. Analysis of sera from her mother, the sister …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study has been carried out to get more and rapid growing lambs fit for slaughter by crossbreeding Kivircik ewes with Sakiz rams so as to produce F 1 females with high fertility and high milk yield and crossbreeding these F 1 females with German Black Headed Mutton rams. Studies have been carried out at Bandırma Sheep Breeding Research Institute. On the first step of this study 5 Sakiz rams and 134 Kivircik ewes had been used. When F 1 females produced by Sakiz X KIvircik crossbreeding became mature, they had been crossbred with German Black Headed Mutton rams. The …

The Studies On The Experiments Of Preventive Treatment With Sodiumbicarbonate Supplementation To Feeds In Sheep In Which Cases Of Ruminal Acidosis, Gürbüz Gökçe, Hüseyin Y. İmren

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was made to determine the degree of protection of sheep against ruminal acidosis after the addition of various concentrations of sodium bicarbonate (3%, 6%, 9%) to acidotic rations (crushed wheat). For this purpose four groups, each group consisting of three animals, were used. This grouping was established according to the rate of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO 3 ) added to the crushed wheat. Crushed wheat-wheat strax mixture (Base ration, 90; 10, 40 gr/kg) was fed to animals once a day for up to 4 days. NaHCO 3 was added to base ration. Treatments were as follows: No treatment (control, …
