The conventional colorimetric method of cholinesterase activity determination in blood and tissues of mammals was applied to investigate the enzyme activity in muscle and nervous cell of aquatic animals which are economically important, such as, tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon fabricus) and giant perch (Lates calcarifer). Decreased enzyme activity in aquatic animals may indicate the contamination of insecticide in water resources. This study demonstrated that the method was suitable for detecting toxicity of organophosphate insecticide due to its convenience, simplicity and no sophisticated or expensive instruments needed.
