An experimental study was conducted to find the variations in air temperature which occur within Croupettes during treatment of infants and small children with respiratory infections, and to discover some of the factors which influence change of air temperature. Fifty children, two months to three years of age, all of whom suffered respiratory illness and all of whom received Croupette therapy were included in the study. Data were collected over a test period of two hours and fifteen minutes for each child. The parallel group technique was used in analysis of data. Proper mechanical management in terms of the individual tooth as well as the entire arch, must be kept in mind. It was the purpose of this study to investigate reasons for the choice of a first position by graduates from diploma programs in nursing. This included factors motivating the choice, the time of choice, and reasons for liking and disliking clinical areas. Questionnaires were mailed to 756 graduates of the class of 1961 from twenty-three representative schools. Approximately 46 percent were returned completed.

Major findings were as follows:

This study was conducted to discover the effects of (1) an interpersonal relationship and (2) an interpersonal relationship and music therapy on preoperative patients in a selected hospital.

The descriptive survey was chosen as the method of study. A checklist and a tape recording of selected music were used as a tool of research. Two groups of preoperative patients were given nursing care by the researcher. Patients in Group One received care with an aim toward developing an interpersonal relationship, while patients in Group Two received the same as Group One with the addition of music therapy.

The bactericidal antibody test depends on the presence of sufficient complement, magnesium ions, and specific antibody to produce killing of certain gram negative bacilli. This study was undertaken to demonstrate whether or not Salmonella pullorum is an organism which is susceptible to this killing action.

Different amounts of test serum containing antibody, constant amounts of complement and magnesium saline diluent were placed together and held in a 37°C water bath for a one hour reaction time. The purpose of this study was to ascertain whether a combination of grade point averages from high school and one year of prescribed courses in a liberal arts college could be used as a tool in the prediction of scholastic success in two selected schools of nursing.

A descriptive survey of grades and test results was done on 121 students from these schools. The nursing school CPA and results from the state board test pool were used as criteria of success. Total GPA's from secondary school and college, and grades in English, science and non-science subjects were the predictors.

The data regarding abdication knowledge as collected by using a checklist form developed for this study and administered to seventeen graduate nurses in three selected hospitals each supervising a pediatric unit.

The study consisted of a comparison of various physical properties of dental amalgam using the Eames technic, and the conventional technic for handling amalgam. Special dies were made for preparing the specimens as well as special equipment for testing the specimens.

The discovery of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in mammalian brain and its rigorous identification was reported in 1950 (1,2,3). Enzymatic experiments with brain acetone powder revealed that GABA was formed by the decarboxylation of glutamic acid and that the enzyme, glutamic acid decarboxylase, required pyridoxal phosphate as the co-factor (4,5). Radioactive tracer studies in vivo and in vitro with glutamic acid and glucose verfied the fact that the former was the precursor of GABA (6,7).

Evidence was presented in 1949 by Bendich, Getler, and Brown (2), that the free pyrimidine base, cytosine, was not incorporated into the nucleotides of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). Further studies by Hammarsten, Reichard, and Saluste (9) with cytidine and those by Roll, Weinfeld, and Carroll (26) with cytidylic acid, showed that the nucleoside and nucleotide derivatives were well incorporated into DNA. These experiments indicated that the conversion of the riboside (or ribotide) to the deoxyribose form had occurred with the nucleosidic linkage intact.
