From Untrained Nurses Toward Professional Preparation In Montana, 1912-1987, A. Gretchen Mcneely Dnsc, Msn, Rnc
Dissertations
Since the American Nurses' Association (ANA) published its first position paper in 1965 and in 1978 reaffirmed its position on the educational preparation for nursing practice at the ANA National Biennium, the Montana Nurses' Association (MNA) has maintained a consistent position that a minimum of the baccalaureate degree in nursing should be required for licensure as a professional nurse. As of the closure of the 1987 session, the MNA had not yet been able to secure legislation for this requirement. The influence of the Montana Nurses' Association on the legislative process regarding the regulatory efforts of the profession from 1912 …

A Study To Examine The Effectiveness Of The Electropalatograph In Elicitation And The Remediation Of A Lateral Lisp In An Adult Client, Nathan Butikofer
Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects
The electropalatograph is an exciting new instrument that is still being researched for clinical use in the remediation of various types of articulation disorders. The electropalatograph gives both client and clinician visual feedback of the client's articulatory productions. Specifically, it allows a client and a clinician to view on a screen exactly where the tongue is placed in relation to the hard and soft palate (McWilliams, 1990).

The Use Of Music Therapy To Influence The Self-Confidence And Hostility Of Adolescents Who Are Sexually Abused, Joy Clendenon-Wallen
Masters Theses
The purpose of this study was to determine whether music therapy would be an effective therapeutic medium for reducing hostility and increasing the self-confidence of sexually abused adolescents. The study utilized an experimental and control group which is unique in the sexual abuse literature. Most studies are descriptive or quasi-experimental in nature. Some of the subjects increased their self-confidence and decreased their hostility although no statistical significance was achieved for either group. This study describes the treatment problems of sexually abused adolescents and offers examples of non-confrontational and goal directed treatment strategies which can be achieved through music therapy. Music …

Separation And Quantification Of Queuine-Modified And Unmodified Transfer Rna Isoacceptors, Jorge Miguel Pereira De Oliveira Da Silva Santos
Separation And Quantification Of Queuine-Modified And Unmodified Transfer Rna Isoacceptors, Jorge Miguel Pereira De Oliveira Da Silva Santos
Chemistry & Biochemistry Theses & Dissertations
The discovery of a base-exchange modification in the first position of the anticodon of four transfer RNA (tRNA) isoacceptor families has been shown to be correlated with a decrease in the rate of cell division in several tumorigenic tissues. This fact led to the hypothesis that wobbling in the anticodon might be a control point wich mediates the rate of translation. A suitable method for separation of different tRNA isoacceptor families had to be created in order to generate a means for quantitatively measuring degrees of this base modification in tRNA. Radio labelled amino acids were used to charge tRNA …

Comparative Analysis Of Syntactic Abilities Of Hard-Of-Hearing And Deaf Children, As Measured By The Screening Portion Of The Test Of Syntactic Abilities, Dawn Misenhimer
Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects
According to the authors of the Test of Syntactic Abilities (TSA), the most difficult task facing deaf and hard-of-hearing children in our educational system is the acquisition of English. The structure, or syntax, of the English language, is especially challenging for these children. The eventual result is that few deaf and hard-of-hearing students acquire even an adequate knowledge of standard English. This in turn affects all other aspects of education, including the learning of reading, writing and content subjects (Quigley, Steinkamp, Power & Jones, 1978). Most deaf and hard-of-hearing children do not even use English syntax to any great extent …

Providing Physical Therapy Services In The Least Restrictive Educational Environment, Judy E. Bahe
Providing Physical Therapy Services In The Least Restrictive Educational Environment, Judy E. Bahe
Physical Therapy Scholarly Projects
Federal legislation has mandated free appropriate public education for all children with disabilities. Physical therapy is included as one of the related services which must be provided, if needed, to assist students with disabilities to benefit from the educational programs. This creates unique challenges for the physical therapist, who traditionally has provided services in a medical model rather than an educational model. The American Physical Therapy Association has published policies and guidelines for providing physical therapy services in the educational environment; however, each state is encouraged to adapt the guidelines to meet individual needs.
This paper provides a general review …
