The Incidence Of Caregiver Reported Sensory Processing Disorders In Children Who Are Experiencing Traumatic Stress Reaction, Ann K. Viviano
The Incidence Of Caregiver Reported Sensory Processing Disorders In Children Who Are Experiencing Traumatic Stress Reaction, Ann K. Viviano
Masters Theses
The purpose of this research project was to determine whether children who are experiencing traumatic stress reaction to childhood neglect· or abuse demonstrate sensory processing disorders. It was hypothesized that since neurodevelopment has been disrupted in children who have been exposed to trauma or neglect, sensory processing abilities may also be disrupted.
The Sensory Profile, a judgment-based caregiver questionnaire, provides a standard method to measure a child's sensory processing abilities and to profile the effect of sensory processing on a child's functional performance. A convenience sample of 25 children, with documented traumatic stress reaction due to abuse and/or neglect, …
Effect Of Relaxation On Neuro-Immune Responses Of Persons Undergoing Chemotherapy, Patricia K. Taylor Pothier Phd, Ms, Rn
Effect Of Relaxation On Neuro-Immune Responses Of Persons Undergoing Chemotherapy, Patricia K. Taylor Pothier Phd, Ms, Rn
Dissertations
Chemotherapy can be considered both a physiologic and a psychological stressor. Anxiety, nausea, emesis, and immunosuppression are commonly associated with chemotherapy, and may adversely affect the outcome or the process of treatment. Chemotherapy-related anxiety can exacerbate negative side-effects. Some psychological stressors, such as anxiety, can result in down-regulation of certain immune functions. Studies have demonstrated that behavioral interventions, such as specific relaxation strategies, can modify stress-related immune modulation. These behavioral interventions have also been shown to decrease the degree of nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy. The purpose of this study was to examine whether a relaxation intervention would result …
Advances In Dna Affinity Chromatography, William Himanshu S. Gadgil
Advances In Dna Affinity Chromatography, William Himanshu S. Gadgil
Theses and Dissertations (ETD)
Different aspects of DNA affinity chromatography such as DNA complexity heparin elution, the Bi-column method and the oligonucluotide trapping method were studied. The complexity (length) of a DNA sequence attached to an affinity chromatography column affects column retention, and the purity of transcription factors obtained. T18: A18 tailed DNA affinity columns were better suited for purification of most of the transcription factors than either the discrete or concatemeric DNA affinity columns. A novel method using heparin for eluting transcription factors from DNA Sepharose columns was characterized. The amount of the lac repressor chimera which eluted from the column was shown …
Covenantal Ethics: A Living System For Living Systems, Matthew D. Viel
Covenantal Ethics: A Living System For Living Systems, Matthew D. Viel
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
Covenantal ethics is a living system for living systems. We humans are not simple, isolated individuals living stagnant, dead lives. Rather we are immersed in a complex system of living, glowing and developing interpersonal relationships with others. Philosophy in general and ethics in particular are often looked upon as dead or dormant entities. Covenantal ethics is neither. It is a living approach to the philosophy of ethics that recognizes the dynamic system in which we live. Our world recently welcomed a new millennium. We moved forward, leaving behind much of the old and eagerly anticipating what was to come. One …

A Question Of Neutrality: Divorce Mediation Literature, The Role Of The Mediator, And Perspectives On Bias, Cory Michael Mathews
A Question Of Neutrality: Divorce Mediation Literature, The Role Of The Mediator, And Perspectives On Bias, Cory Michael Mathews
Dissertations and Theses
Research on mediation processes have addressed the role of the mediator, but often obliquely. In divorce mediation, the literature has sketched various approaches to the role, which diverge from each other in some significant ways. What is lacking is an integrated picture as to how these approaches to the field differ on key questions in the practice of divorce mediation.
This thesis is a preliminary attempt at such an integrated sketch, focusing on the question of whether or not the mediator is truly neutral in the process. Two major schools of thought of emerge from the literature, here referred to …

The purpose of this study was to compare self-initiated mobility in children with CP and DS. Three infants, ages 8, 9, and 22 months, with diagnoses of no CP, DS, and CP respectively, participated in the study. The infants were videotaped in …
Icam-1 Transmembrane Signaling: Involvement Of Taxreb107 In Icam-1-Mediated Signal Transduction, Brian Lee
Icam-1 Transmembrane Signaling: Involvement Of Taxreb107 In Icam-1-Mediated Signal Transduction, Brian Lee
Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library
The role of membrane ICAM-1 in intercellular adhesion, through interaction with the leukocyte beta2 integrin receptors LFA-1 and Mac-1, is well established. However, until recently, ICAM-1 was widely regarded as being simply an "anchor" molecule, promoting, for example, firm adhesion of lymphocytes to vascular endothelial cells. The demonstration that ICAM-1 is connected to the actin-based cytoskeleton through interactions with subcortical actin-binding proteins, such as alpha-actinin, enhanced this concept. However, ICAM-1 has been increasingly shown to have signaling properties of its own. Engagement of ICAM-1 extracellularly, either through its natural counter-receptors, LFA-1/Mac-1, or through antibody mediated clustering, can produce numerous changes …

Morphine Enhances The Permeability Across Vascular Endothelial Cell Barriers, Jenine Anday
Morphine Enhances The Permeability Across Vascular Endothelial Cell Barriers, Jenine Anday
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
Using three types of in vitro endothelial cell barrier models, we investigated the direct effects and mechanisms of morphine on vascular permeability. Our current studies illustrate LPS induces permeability across these VEC barriers, and is significantly enhanced when co-treated with morphine, displayed using the [ 14 CJ-inulin paracellular marker. Incubation with morphine alone induces permeability in a concentration depeodent manner, and is not blocked by the addition of naloxone. Morphine enhances the detrimental effects of LPS on cell viability and alone also decreases endothelial cell viability, concentration-dependently, which is also not affected by naloxone, as demonstrated by the trypan blue …
