The Role Of Self-Efficacy In Rehabilitation And Recovery From Ankle Sprains, Bridget M. Walsh
The Role Of Self-Efficacy In Rehabilitation And Recovery From Ankle Sprains, Bridget M. Walsh
Theses and Dissertations--Rehabilitation Sciences
Ankle sprains are among the most common musculoskeletal injuries in the United States. Approximately 2 million ankle sprains occur annually, with an estimated 46% of affected individuals experiencing residual symptoms and developing chronic ankle instability (CAI). In addition to physical impairments, individuals with CAI may exhibit lower physical and psychological health-related quality of life (HRQL). HRQL integrates the physical, psychological, and social domains of a person’s health and is influenced by their experiences, expectations, and perceptions.
Injury-related fear is a common psychological impairment in individuals with CAI and has been associated with decreased physical function, reduced physical activity, and greater …
Investigating Non-Functional Overreaching In Special Operations Tactical Training, Jeremy Alan Ross
Investigating Non-Functional Overreaching In Special Operations Tactical Training, Jeremy Alan Ross
Theses and Dissertations--Rehabilitation Sciences
Special Operations Forces (SOF) tactical training requires high levels of physical performance and psychological resilience. This training is often characterized by extreme temperatures and environments, extremely high levels of physical activity and large caloric deficits. As such, SOF personnel follow intense strength and conditioning (S&C) programs to enhance a wide range of athletic abilities. Such programs rely on a balance between training stress and recovery to allow for gradual improvement in physical ability over time, however it is unknown how to quantify tactical training stress in the context of a training program. This dissertation explores evidence related to how this …
Exploring Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tears: Causes, Reconstruction, And Outcomes, Holly L. Bollinger
Exploring Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tears: Causes, Reconstruction, And Outcomes, Holly L. Bollinger
Honors College Theses
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a critical structure in knee stability, and its injury can significantly impair athletic performance and daily functionality. The ACL plays a vital role in stabilizing the knee joint, preventing excessive forward movement of the tibia relative to the femur and aiding in rotational control. ACL tears are commonly associated with sports and physical activities that involve sudden stops, pivots, or changes in direction. These injuries can lead to knee instability, impaired function, and long-term complications. Despite the prevalence of ACL tears, there remains a lack of consensus on the multifactorial causes, optimal reconstruction techniques, …
Occupational Therapy’S Role In Enhancing Awareness And Treatment Of Pelvic Floor Dysfunction In Women’S Health, Nicole Gentry
Occupational Therapy’S Role In Enhancing Awareness And Treatment Of Pelvic Floor Dysfunction In Women’S Health, Nicole Gentry
Occupational Therapy Capstones
Background: There are a variety of reasons that pelvic floor dysfunction can occur in women throughout their life, however, pelvic floor therapy is a minimally invasive and a holistic treatment option that can make significant differences (Cozean & Cozean, 2016; Moody & Fashokun, 2021; Wallace et al., 2019). Pelvic floor therapists can treat and provide interventions to help women manage symptoms associated with pelvic floor dysfunction. Currently, there is limited research on the correlation between pelvic floor dysfunction and recurrent vaginal and urinary infections. However, research suggests that recurrent infections can lead to inflammation, high muscle tone, increased tissue sensitivity, …
An Exploration Of The Clinical Senior Nursing Student Preceptor Relationship, Kimberly Nicole Dunker
An Exploration Of The Clinical Senior Nursing Student Preceptor Relationship, Kimberly Nicole Dunker
Dissertations
Problem
The use of clinical preceptors for training is well documented in the literature as an effective strategy for helping students, new graduates, and RNs orient to their roles in healthcare facilities. The need to ensure that the preceptor is adequately trained and then matched to a preceptee for a successful relationship is a challenge. The healthcare facility does its best to identify a preceptor and ensure adequate training is completed and there is a willingness to facilitate the experience. The academic institution is required to ensure that preceptors are chosen based on criteria outlined by the board of nursing …

Predictors Of General Education Teachers' Self-Efficacy For Educating Autistic Students: Enactive Mastery Experiences, Vicarious Experiences, Verbal/Social Persuasions, And Physiological And Affective States, Renette Portecop-Prentice
Dissertations
Problem
Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental condition that presents challenges not only for autistic individuals, but also for their families, healthcare providers and school professionals. A significant number of children with autism spend most of their school day in general education classrooms with teachers who may lack autism-specific training and are unfamiliar with evidence-based practices for supporting autistic students. This lack of training or relevant resources specific to autism may impact teacher self-efficacy for educating autistic students, which in turn may affect instructional decisions and student outcomes. Guided by Bandura’s theoretical framework, this study examined the relationships among autism-specific training …

Assessing Dental Hygienist’S Use Of Anxiety Reducing Practices Toward Patients With Dental Anxiety, Sara C. Steiger
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
The purpose of this study was to assess dental hygienists' practices regarding anxiety-reducing techniques, their attitudes towards managing patients with dental anxiety, and the extent of their training on the topic. To collect data, an adaptation of the existing survey from the UNC Department of Dental Ecology Survey, was distributed to licensed dental hygienists. The findings of the research questions were analyzed using descriptive statistics in the form of frequencies and percentages. The results of this study indicate a substantial need for enhanced educational resources to better equip dental hygienists in managing patients with dental anxiety. Most participants do not …
Healthcare Consolidation: Effects On Corporate And Private Healthcare Facilities, Kaydence N. Mcdonald
Healthcare Consolidation: Effects On Corporate And Private Healthcare Facilities, Kaydence N. Mcdonald
Undergraduate Honors Theses
In this thesis paper the concept of healthcare consolidation is discussed. The distinctions between small and large healthcare organizations’ structures and functions are explained first. Knowing the distinction between how the different sized healthcare organization’s function will give a better understanding to how consolidation occurs in the facilities. The benefits and challenges that small and large healthcare organizations offer is discussed next. After setting an understanding of the differences in healthcare organizations based on size this paper gives a definition of consolidation, and the forms used in healthcare organizations. It discusses vertical, horizontal consolidation, mergers, and acquisitions. Then the paper …
Brain On Drugs: The Rewarding And Punishing Effects Of Addiction And Relapse, Abby Ferrell
Brain On Drugs: The Rewarding And Punishing Effects Of Addiction And Relapse, Abby Ferrell
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Addiction is a multidimensional disorder that is heavily influenced by behavior, biology, and social interaction. These factors work together to make addiction persist and make relapse easier. Three major models of addiction are explored--behaviorism, biology, and social learning theory, which all contribute to the understanding of addiction, and their respective treatments can be individual, and when integrated. Behavior models highlight how conditioning and reinforcement contribute to addiction, while biological studies focus on dopamine changes in the brain that alter other areas of brain chemistry. Social learning theories add to the environmental cue associations that behaviorism mentions briefly. The implications that …
Development Of An Ecg-Based Deep Learning Model For Pediatric Congenital Heart Disease (Chd) Diagnosis, Annbar Mekouar
Development Of An Ecg-Based Deep Learning Model For Pediatric Congenital Heart Disease (Chd) Diagnosis, Annbar Mekouar
Selected Full-Text Master Theses 2021-
Congenital heart disease (CHD) stands as the leading congenital anomaly which affects pediatric populations throughout the world. The effectiveness of treatment depends on both early diagnosis and accurate identification but echocardiography requires manual interpretation which proves time-consuming and inconsistent especially when examining pediatric patients with their distinct cardiac systems. The research aims to create a deep learning-based diagnostic framework which uses ECG data to identify coronary artery disease subtypes in pediatric patients. The model uses high-quality datasets from Dr. Ignacio Lugones to extract R-R intervals and QRS durations through convolutional neural networks (CNNs). The system addresses pediatric-specific challenges while enhancing …

Public health revolves around 3 core functions: assessment, policy development, and assurance.1 For public health initiatives to have long-term success, we must determine if the intended effects of those programs are met in the beginning stages of program development and implementation; thus, program evaluation relates to the core function of assessment. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) developed a framework to facilitate this process and enable subsequent informed decisions on how to improve public health programs, which relates to policy development.2 The CDC framework is comprised of 6 interconnected steps and 4 groups of standards; together, …

HIV transmission, with relative risk reductions of up to 99%. However, real world data have revealed that even with large increases in PrEP use, new HIV diagnoses may only slightly decline. This disparity suggests that access to PrEP may be suboptimal, especially among high-risk subgroups, who are often hard to maintain on the continuum of HIV care. Pharmacists, because of their accessibility, trusted role in their communities, and growing scope of practice, could serve as an intervention point to improve access to PrEP.

How Sleep Disorders And Sleep Duration Impact Memory, Alexandria J. Sims
Theses and Dissertations--Public Health (M.P.H. & Dr.P.H.)
INTRODUCTION: Sleep duration and sleep disorders can cause changes in memory function as populations age. Previous studies have shown that disordered sleep is associated with increased risk of cognitive dysfunction and long and short sleep durations can cause memory impairment. This study studies aims to find if there is an association between sleep disorders and sleep duration and the impacts on memory.
METHODS: In this study, 3,478 participants aged 60 year and older from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2013-2014 dataset were included in adjusted and unadjusted models, comparing the sleep disorders and sleep duration exposures to …

CGU Theses & Dissertations
Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) are a large group of man-made substances that do not occur naturally in the environment and are resistant to heat, water, oil, grease, and stains. PFAS has been used since the 1940s in a variety of commercial products including non-stick cookware, waterproof clothing, paper products, stain-resistant fabrics and carpets, industrial firefighting foams, and products that resist grease, water, and oil. While 97% of the U.S. population has been shown to have some level of PFAS within their blood, long term exposure to PFAS is potentially harmful to health. Individuals who are exposed regularly have been …

Modified N-Heterocyclic Carbene Catalysts For Polyurethane Synthesis, Charise D. Young
Pomona Senior Theses
Polyurethanes are widely used polymers synthesized from diisocyanate and diol molecules. They are ubiquitous polymeric materials with important industrial applications. Their increasing market value prompts the need for selective and efficient production which can be achieved through N-Heterocyclic carbene (NHC) catalysis. N-heterocyclic carbenes are heterocyclic molecules containing a carbene atom and at least one nitrogen adjacent to the carbene center. The nitrogen substituents on the adjacent nitrogen play an important role in influencing their steric and electronic properties and resultant reactivity.1,2 There is a lack of a comprehensive understanding of the steric and electronic properties of NHCs and how …
