Implementation Of A Peer Support Program To Increase Resilience In Nurse Managers In Acute Care Hospitals: A Pilot Study, Juana Castillo

Background: Nurse managers are at risk for experiencing stress and burnout. The peer support program was implemented to increase resilience among nurse managers.
Methods: A one-group pretest and posttest design was employed to examine the impact of peer support on nurse manager resilience. The nurse managers participated in bi-weekly 30-minute peer sessions over 12 weeks. The Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale was utilized prior to and following the intervention along with demographic and satisfaction surveys.
Results: There were six nurse managers who participated in the peer support program; however, only four completed both the pre- and post-survey. The peer support program intervention …

Objective

The objective of this capstone is to gain knowledge on what burnout is, what causes it, what can be done to prevent it, and what can be added to public health emergency plans to reduce burnout in local emergency preparedness workforces.

Methodology

A literature review was completed through peer-reviewed articles, and documents from professional and governmental organizations. The results were used to search current plans to determine whether burnout-related recommendations were present.

Results

Despite the association between nursing students’ exposure to suffering and the development of compassion fatigue, little research exists regarding promoting nursing students’ adaptation to caring for suffering patients and families. As a possible nursing shortage is projected, it is imperative to better understand the factors that impact this adaptation to ensure that nursing students can successfully transition into their nursing role. Background: Primary care providers employed by federally qualified health centers (FQHC) working with underserved populations experience high levels of burnout as patients are often medically complex, face healthcare disparities and societal stigmas. The aim of the project was to alleviate burnout and improve provider retention through introduction of organizational support measures. Participants involved were healthcare providers, as well as nurse management and senior leadership.

Oncology nurses are particularly susceptible to CF because of the continual contact with terminally ill patients and recurrent experiences with patients’ death. INTRODUCTION: Physician burnout within the United States has been deemed an epidemic within the healthcare system with nearly 63% of physicians reporting burnout. The rate of burnout amongst Primary Care Providers (PCPs) is higher than other provider types at 70%. The presence of burnout affects the likelihood of medical errors, provider retention, and patient-provider communication. Fifty-six percent of PCPs that reported burnout also associated this burnout with their reason for leaving the practice. Physicians that are burnt out are less likely to find nonadherence in their patients, more likely to refer to specialists, and more likely to prescribe medications unnecessary. …
