Research has shown that individuals with diabetes are at a higher risk of developing depression in comparison to those of the general population. Traditional preventative measures are well-established, but the influence of ventilator filters in preventing VAP is unknown. The current evidence on the efficacy of VAP bundles and ventilator filters is variable and challenging to address. Critically ill patients often require mechanical ventilation to support respiratory function. Prolonging mechanical ventilation can increase adverse outcomes. Hypoxia is a severe adverse event that is often associated with sedated endoscopy procedures, and bariatric patients have a significantly higher risk for complications related to oxygenation during sedation due to pathophysiological changes to the respiratory system. This scoping review compares the rate of hypoxemic events with the use of a binasal cannula versus a procedural oxygen mask during inpatient endoscopic procedures in patients aged 19-64 with a BMI greater than 40.

The induction of anesthesia using hypnotic sedatives, such as etomidate and midazolam, is common practice. Etomidate and midazolam are commonly employed in the induction of anesthesia in the septic patient population, each with its unique advantages and drawbacks. This scoping review aims to synthesize evidence on the effects of anesthetic induction with etomidate versus midazolam in adult septic patients, focusing on the incidence of mortality and associated adverse effects during hospitalization. Careful screening upon hospital admission enables clinicians to mitigate the spread and sequelae of this illness through early intervention and isolation but this screening must be accurate and highly sensitive to maximize benefit.

This retrospective chart review examined female patients (N=25) who had a postpartum hemorrhage. Electronic medical records from Regional One Health were queried for ICD-10 072 related codes from January 1, 2021-October 31, 2023. Of those, a maximum of 25 charts were identified and the information was deidentified. All data was de-identified, coded, encrypted, housed, and locked securely. BACKGROUND: Digital neuropsychological tests reliably capture real-time, process-based behavior that traditional paper/pencil tests cannot detect, enabling earlier detection of neurodegenerative illness. We assessed relations between informant-based subtle and mild functional decline and process-based features extracted from the digital Trail Making Test-Part B (dTMT-B).

METHODS: A total of 321 community-dwelling participants (56.0% female) were assessed with the Functional Activities Questionnaire (FAQ) and the dTMT-B. Three FAQ groups were constructed: FAQ = 0 (unimpaired); FAQ = 1-4 (subtle impairment); FAQ = 5-8 (mild impairment).

Results: Compared to the FAQ-unimpaired group, other groups required longer pauses inside target circles (p < 0.050) and produced more total pen strokes to complete the test (p < 0.016). FAQ-subtle participants required more time to complete the entire test (p …
