Vascular Ring Anomaly Associated With Right Aortic Arch In A German Shepherd Dog, Ebru Yalçin, Nureddi̇n Çeli̇mli̇, İ. Taci̇ Cangül, Ahmet Akkoç, Zeki̇ Yilmaz

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

A 12-week-old, intact, male German shepherd dog was presented with a history of regurgitation since weaning to solid food. The dog was emaciated, and the cervical esophagus of the animal was palpable as a flaccid and air-filled cavity. Contrast radiography of esophagus revealed contrast material accumulation in the thoracic esophagus craniodorsal to the heart. A diagnosis of vascular ring anomaly was made and surgical correction of the defect was decided. The dog died during the preoperative period despite supportive treatment in intensive care unit. Necropsy findings confirmed a diagnosis of persistent right aortic arch.

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Chylothorax due to right-sided heart failure was diagnosed in a 3.5-year-old, male Rottweiler, based on the clinical, radiological, and echocardiographic examinations, and serum biochemical test results (pleural fluid cytology and triglyceride levels of the serum and pleural fluid). En bloc ligation of thoracic duct along with its branches and pleural abrasion were performed after the failure of the initial medical management including pleural drainage via tube thoracostomy, and enalapril, furosemide, and low-fat diet (Prescription Diet Canine r/d, Hill´s Pet Product, Topeka, Kansas, USA). Combination medical and surgical therapy resulted in an excellent postoperative outcome. Six months after surgery the dog …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Zinc deficiency may result in alopecia, erythema, crusting, scaling, parakeratosis, inflammation of the skin, and impaired wound healing. Zinc deficiency also may impair the immune response against microorganisms and lead to fungal infections such as trichophytosis. The present study included male and female dogs (n = 7) of various breeds, ages, and diagnosed with Microsporum canis dermatophytosis and 4 healthy dogs used as the control group. The influence of dermatophytosis on serum zinc concentrations in dogs was investigated. Wood's lamp examination, fungal cultures, and additionally biopsy specimen were used to confirm the diagnosis and rule out other causes of the …
