Immunohistochemical Studies Of The Estrogen Receptor Alpha In The Ovaries And Uteri Of The Domestic Cat At Different Stages Of The Oestrous Cycle, Damri Darawiroj, Kongkiat Srisuwatanasagul, Sinchai Pianchop, Sayamon Sukjumlong Dec 2003

Immunohistochemical Studies Of The Estrogen Receptor Alpha In The Ovaries And Uteri Of The Domestic Cat At Different Stages Of The Oestrous Cycle, Damri Darawiroj, Kongkiat Srisuwatanasagul, Sinchai Pianchop, Sayamon Sukjumlong

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The expression of the estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) was investigated in domestic cat ovaries and uteri by mean of immunohistochemistry, using monoclonal antibody against ERα. The stages of the oestrous cycle were determined by vaginal cytology and serum steroid levels which were taken before operation. In the uterus, positive staining was found in the nuclei of all uterine cell types in different proportions and staining intensity. During oestrous, the staining intensity and the proportion of positive cells were highest in the epithelium (both the surface epithelium and the glandular epithelium) as well as in the myometrium. At dioestrous, ERα expression …

First Identification Of Neospora Caninum In Thailand, Than Kyaw, Prachin Virakul, Manop Muangyai, Wijit Banlunara Dec 2003

First Identification Of Neospora Caninum In Thailand, Than Kyaw, Prachin Virakul, Manop Muangyai, Wijit Banlunara

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

An immunohistochemical examination of aborted bovine tissues, collected from two dairy farms that had a high abortion rate (7%), detected the organism Neospora caninum (NC). Five out of 12 aborting cows (41.7%) were seropositive to NC using a competitive ELISA test. Neospora-tachyzoites were detected in the placenta of a seropositive aborting cow. Neither NC parasites nor cysts were detected in other fetal tissues. The identification of the Neospora-parasite and a high percentage of Neospora seropositive aborting cows, suggested NC as the possible cause of abortion. This is the first identification of the NC parasite in Thailand.

The Expression Of Oestrogen And Progesterone Receptors In The Gilt Uterus At Different Stages Of The Oestrous Cycle, Sayamon Sukjumlong, Kongkiat Srisuwatanasagul, Adisorn Adirekthaworn, Kriengyot Sajjarengpong Sep 2003

The Expression Of Oestrogen And Progesterone Receptors In The Gilt Uterus At Different Stages Of The Oestrous Cycle, Sayamon Sukjumlong, Kongkiat Srisuwatanasagul, Adisorn Adirekthaworn, Kriengyot Sajjarengpong

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Ovarian steroid hormones are known to be an important modulator in the regulation of reproductive function in the female. The levels of oestrogen and progesterone have been well documented whilst interacting during the entire oestrous cycle but their specific receptors in the target cells are less understood. Therefore, a comparative study of oestrogen (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) at certain oestrous stages should be of help in the prediction of their interaction in specific uterine compartments. Tissue samples were collected at different stages of the oestrous cycle: oestrus (n=3), early dioestrus (n=3) and late dioestrus (n=3). They were fixed in …

Expression Of The Tumour Suppressor Gene P53 In Odontogenic Cysts, Ayla Özveren, Can Tuskan, Mehmet Yaltirik, Beli̇r Atalay, Gülçi̇n Erseven Jan 2003

Expression Of The Tumour Suppressor Gene P53 In Odontogenic Cysts, Ayla Özveren, Can Tuskan, Mehmet Yaltirik, Beli̇r Atalay, Gülçi̇n Erseven

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

The protein p53 seems to be related to the suppression of cell proliferation. Positive tissues appear to have a higher proliferative activity than negative tissues. Mutation of the p53 tumour suppressor gene has been demonstrated in a large proportion of human head and neck tumours, although no formal evidence of functional aberration has been shown p53 may have importance during the early stage of malignancy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of the p53 tumour suppressor gene in the pathogenesis of odontogenic cysts. Expression of abnormal p53 protein is a widely recognised marker of malignancy. Expression …

Pathological And Immunohistochemical Studies In Rabbits Experimentally Infected With Toxoplasma Gondii, Rifki Haziroğlu, Kürşat Altintaş, Ayhan Atasever, M. Yavuz Gülbahar, Oğuz Kul, Recai̇ Tunca Jan 2003

Pathological And Immunohistochemical Studies In Rabbits Experimentally Infected With Toxoplasma Gondii, Rifki Haziroğlu, Kürşat Altintaş, Ayhan Atasever, M. Yavuz Gülbahar, Oğuz Kul, Recai̇ Tunca

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Experimental toxoplasmosis was induced in rabbits using different routes. A total of 42 animals were used; 36 of them were in the experimental groups and the other six comprised the control group. In addition, five guinea pigs were used for preparing hyperimmune sera against Toxoplasma gondii. The Ankara strain was inoculated intravenously (group I, n: 12), intraperitoneally (group II, n: 12) and intradermally (group III, n: 12) into the rabbits. Group IV animals were kept as controls (n: 6). Clinical and macroscopical findings varied according to the routes of inoculation and organs affected. Microscopically, multifocal necrosis with T. gondii tachyzoites …
