A total of 50 patients, who had developed hemiplcgia or hcmiparesis as a result of a cerebral vascular disease, were collected for electrophysiologic study. All of these patients were free of peripheral nerve disorder or shoulder joint pathology.MNCV, SNCV, F latencies of bil median nerves and concentric needle eiectromyographic examination were done. The relationship between electrophysiological findings and clinical features of the patients was analyzed. A positive correlation between shoulder pain and presence of shoulder subluxation or shoulder ROM limitation was found. The facial expression of functional recovery in patients with peripheral facial paisy/paraiysis on rehabili-tation therapy was investigated. Thirty-four cases of fa-cial palsy were collected from January 1986 to Decem-ber 1991 in the Department of Physicai Medicine and Rehabilitation of Tri-Service General Hospital. Twenty-five cases (74%) were classified as idiopathic and the remaining 9 cases (26%) were as organic facial palsy.The rehabilitation program included daily superficial heat, oii massage, electrical stimulation and active exer-cise of the affected muscles was prescribed and instituted completely. Renal failure was once the leading cause of death in patients with chronic spinal cord lesions. In western countries, dramatic improvements in urologic care enhancing patient survival have occurred in the last 25 years. Nonetheless, urological complications continue to be the major morbidity in spinal cord injured patients. The purpose of our investigation was to survey the urological complications in patients suffered from spinal cord injuries (SCI) for more than 2 years in Taiwan. Forty-nine male and 11 female patients had comprehensive urological studies prospectively. Of the 49 male patients, 32 (65.3%) had had bladder training in the acute stage. …

The majority of tuberculosis bacillus infection is in the lung. Although the incidence of infection in the skeletal system is low, spinal tuberculosis is on important cause of hack pain in the Rehabilitation Outpatient Department because it is the most skeletal site affected.During the past year, we managed three cases of spinal tuberculosis. The characteristics of these patients were 1) backache over the thoracolum-bar junction with knocking pain, 2) fair response to analgesics and physical modalities and Paras-pinal abscess noted on MRI (Magnetic Resonance Image) examination. The dysfunction or pathomechanics of sacroiliac joint is a common cause of low back pain. The sacroiliac joints are nonweight bearing joints that function to absorb forces from various directions. Pyogenic infection of the sacroiliac joint resulted in limited hip mobility and pain when the peivis was compressed. The first case was diagnosed as septic arthritis and reported.Infectious processes in the retroperitoneal space often involve the iliopsoas muscle. The infection usually is secondary to other intra-abdominal or intra-pelvic inflammatory processes However they rarely arise primarily within the retroperitoneum. A female of age 30 years developed a muscular weakness in proximal extremities during 2 years and responded poorly to steroid treatment. Creatine kinase in isoenzymic MM form was markedly elevated according to a serum muscle enzyme test. Electromyography examination showed a myopathic feature. Histopathological tests in muscle biopsy specimens revealed prominent cytoplasmic vacuoles rimmed by basophilic granules under space optical microscopy, and abundant intranuclear filamentous inclusions in electron microscopy. These clinical features and athological especially electron microscopic findings are considered to be of paramount importance for the diagnosis of inclusion body myositis.

Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a life-threatening disease with variable manifestations and thus early diagnosis is difficult among the spinal cord injury (SCI) patients. There are still no clinical reports or statistical data about the PE in SCI patients in Taiwan. However, the incidence of PE in SCI patients was higher than that in general population according to the reports in western countries, and early prevention, diagnosis and treatment were documented to reduce the morbidity and mortality. A 60 year-old male patient who presented with lumbago, fever, local tenderness over lumbar spine and associated with paravertebral muscle spasm, was prescribed antibiotic therapy 12 days after the onset of initial symptom under the impression of septic lumbar discitis, which was then verified by MRI and microbiology within one week after admission. Early diagnosis and adequate antibiotic therapy gained a favorable result, although the patient needed anterior inlerbody fusion for symptomatic retrolisthesis of L3 on L4 at the sixth week after admission.

Myofascial pain syndrome is a common diagnosis in the outpatient department. Ciinicians often emphasize pain management and neglect the under-lying causes. This study was based on 5 cases of microtumor manifested with myofascial pain syndrome. The data were collected from April 1984 to December 1991 in Veterans General Hospital Taichung. The clinical symptoms which lasted from 1 month to 17 years, physical examination which included active, passive & resisted active ROM, painpattern, image study, operative findings and outcome will be discussed. การรักษาโรคติดเชื้อ อี. โคลัย ที่เกิดจากการทดลองในไก่กระทงด้วยยาเจนตามัยซิน และไทโลซินรวมกับสเตรปโตมัยซิน, สมศักดิ์ ภัคภิญโญ, จิโรจ ศศิปรียจันทร์, สุวิทย์ อุปสัย, ศักดิ์ดา เตโช, สำรวย บุตรเณร

แบ่งไก่กระทงจำนวน 80 ตัว เป็น 4 กลุ่ม ๆ ละ 20 ตัว ไก่กลุ่ม 1, 2 และ 3 ได้รับเชื้อ อี. โคลัย สเตรน 078 โดยการฉีดเข้าถุงลมช่องอกคู่หลังด้านซ้าย ไก่กลุ่มที่ 1 และ 2 ได้รับยาทันทีพร้อมกับการฉีดเชื้อ อี. โคลัย โดยไก่กลุ่มที่ 1 ได้รับยาเจนตามัยซิน 4 มก.ต่อ น้ำหนักตัว 1 กก. และไก่กลุ่มที่ 2 ได้รับยาไทโลซิน 35 มก.ต่อน้ำหนักตัว 1 กก. รวมกับ ยาเสตรปโตมัยซิน 210 มก.ต่อน้ำหนักตัว 1 กก. ส่วนไก่กลุ่มที่ 4 ไม่ได้รับเชื้อและไม่ได้ รับยา เก็บไก่ไว้ 10 วันภายหลังการฉีดเชื้อ พบว่าไก่กลุ่มที่ 2 และ 3 ตายกลุ่มละ 1 ตัว น้ำหนักเฉลี่ยที่เพิ่มขึ้นของไก่กลุ่มที่ 1 และ 2 ไม่แตกต่างกันอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ แต่ น้ำหนักเฉลี่ยที่เพิ่มขึ้นของกลุ่มที่ 3 ต่ำกว่ากลุ่มที่ 1 และ 4 อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ

A Preliminary Study On Boar Semen Quality And Fertilization Rate, Mongkol Techakumphu, Wichai Tantasuparak

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Fertilizing capacity of three boars from different breeds; Meishan, Landrace and Large White; were tested. Semen quality was macroscopically evaluated. A direct observation of embryonic quality were performed after surgical collection from natural mated gilts. A total of nine gilts, equally divided into three groups was used in this experiment. Each group was mated with each boar. The result showed that there was a relationship between a quality of semen and a quality of recovered eggs. High percentage of fertilized eggs (90%) were obtained in each gilt and the stage attained was related to the day of collection. The method …
