Statistical Analysis Of Social Network Change, Teresa D. Schmidt
Statistical Analysis Of Social Network Change, Teresa D. Schmidt
Systems Science Friday Noon Seminar Series
We explore two statistical methods that infer social network structures and statistically test those structures for change over time: regression-based differential network analysis (R-DNA) and information theory-based differential network analysis (I-DNA). RDNA is adapted from bioinformatics and I-DNA employs reconstructability analysis. Both methods are used to analyze Medicaid claims data from one-year periods before and after the formation of the Health Share of Oregon Coordinated Care Organization (CCO). We hypothesized that Health Share’s CCO formation would be followed by several changes in the healthcare delivery network.
Application of R-DNA and I-DNA to claims data involves three steps: (a) the inference …

Single- And Dual-Energy Ct: A Comparison, Emilee Bixler
Single- And Dual-Energy Ct: A Comparison, Emilee Bixler
Student Research Poster Presentations 2020
This research offers a comparison of two types of computed tomography (CT) configurations by exploring each scanner type and the accompanying image specifications, protocols, radiation doses, geometric aspects, and photographic aspects of the resulting images. The comparison aimed to determine if single-energy CT (SECT) or dual-energy CT (DECT) had any clear advantages over the other scanner type. Several studies in the research resulted in DECT displaying a decrease in dose without compromising contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR). The studies in this research also showed DECT had a superior ability of decreasing iodine by 70% concentration dose while obtaining the same image quality …

Breast Density Awareness, Alyssa Acker
Breast Density Awareness, Alyssa Acker
Student Research Poster Presentations 2020
Breast density refers to the amount of fibrous and glandular tissue in comparison to fatty tissue demonstrated on a mammogram. A woman’s breast density is significant because as the density of the tissue increases, the woman’s risk for developing breast cancer increases and the more challenging for microcalcifications or lesions to be seen on mammography images. The Mammography Quality Standards Act, requires radiologists or imaging facilities to send each patient a written summary of their mammogram report and communicate to the patient if their results suggest further imaging. In addition to this requirement, 38 states that have passed a Breast …
The Use Of Cyberknife Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy In Treating Hepatocellular Carcinoma, Alexis Baddick
The Use Of Cyberknife Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy In Treating Hepatocellular Carcinoma, Alexis Baddick
Student Research Poster Presentations 2020
Radiation therapy is an ever-changing field, making it easier and safer to treat a broader range of cancers. With the advancement of the CyberKnife System, we can now investigate how effective stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) treatments are in terms of treating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. HCC is the most common liver cancer as well as one of the most prominent cancer-related deaths in the world. Several studies indicated that, previously, treating HCC with ionizing radiation was not an effective option due to the liver’s sensitivity to radiation, among other factors. After conducting research and examining nine different sources, there …
The Sonographic Progression Of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Into Non-Alcoholic Cirrhosis Of The Liver, Giana Tondora
The Sonographic Progression Of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Into Non-Alcoholic Cirrhosis Of The Liver, Giana Tondora
Student Research Poster Presentations 2020
Cirrhosis is quickly becoming a prevalent disease in the United States alone and affects 1 in every 400 Americans. Cirrhosis occurs when the liver's fibrous bands are no longer fibrous in response to the liver being scarred and no longer being able to filter toxins from the blood. Ultrasound is a key tool along with blood tests that allows cirrhosis to definitively be detected and diagnosed in patients. Cirrhosis can be either non-alcoholic or alcoholic depending on the patient’s history and there are distinct differences in appearance of the liver sonographically as well as symptoms and treatment of this disease …

Evaluation Of Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia Antibody Laboratory Use And Anticoagulation Prescribing Patterns, Piper Swanson, Jesse Greenlee, Gregory Schaefer, Paul Huiras
Pharmacy Posters
Introduction
- Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is a rare adverse reaction
- Calculating a 4T score prior to ordering a heparin-PF4 immunoassay is recommended. For a score < 4, HIT probability is low and an assay is not advised
- If high suspicion of HIT (4T greater than or equal to 4), an assay should be ordered, all heparin products discontinued, and a non-heparin anticoagulant initiated.
Purpose
- Determine if heparin immunoassay ordering was indicted according to retrospective 4T score
- Assess anticoagulation prescribing depending on the result of the assay
- Serve as a pre-group for a planned perverse post-HIT order set implementation analysis

Evaluation Of Antibiotic Use And Duration For Febrile Neutropenia, Kayla Jensen, Patricia Aubert, Joy Ward, Ann Wigton
Pharmacy Posters
Introduction:
- Febrile neutropenia (FN) affects over 80% of patients with hematologic cancer and 10% to 50% of patients with solid tumors
- National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines recommend empiric broad-spectrum monotherapy until the absolute neutrophil count (ANC) is over 500 cells/uL.
- Extended durations with broad-spectrum agents leads to increased risk of antibiotic resistance, toxicity and C. difficile infection.
Purpose
- To evaluate antibiotic prescribing patterns for patients with FN to optimize antibiotic stewardship.

Reduced Frequency Monitoring Post-Stoke Treatment, Melissa Freese
Nursing Posters
In 2020, the nation was faced with a pandemic that quickly depleted health care resources. Standards of care were reviewed to identify opportunities to reduce the burden on healthcare resources. One of the standards of care that was reviewed nationally and locally at the St. Cloud Hospital (SCH), was the postalteplase/ thrombectomy patient placement and monitoring.
The standard of care for the placement and monitoring of post-alteplase patients was established during the 1996 NINDS trial and has not been studied since. Very minimal literature is available on the standard of care for patient placement and monitoring post-thrombectomy.

Marijuana Legislation: Identifying The Impact On The Oral Healthcare Provider, Abby L. Geiser, Jessica Reid-Burrell
Dental Hygiene Student Scholarship
Objectives/Aims: Since the mid-2000s, the United States has seen a surge in legislation involving the legalization of marijuana, both recreationally and medicinally. The relaxed laws translated into an increase of marijuana consumption and thereby a potential increase in the number of patients a provider will see that are cannabis users. The purpose of this review is to illustrate how the providers begin to see pathologies related to cannabis use more frequently, and how they will need to be prepared for ways this can be addressed. Additionally, oral healthcare providers will face ethical dilemmas and legal challenges when treating patients and …

Sports And Talent Selection In Early Adolescence, Ahmet Uzun
Health Sciences
Early adolescence is the fastest development period between childhood and adulthood. It is understood that this situation is important in determining the differences between ages in terms of academic and sports studies in adolescence development. It should be remembered that differences in the motor power of individuals, especially in early adolescence (11-14 years), may affect athletes' athletic achievement and future athlete training levels. In this case, some physical fitness tests are required to better monitor the health and education levels of individuals in childhood and adolescence. It is seen that these tests are widely used especially in childhood and adolescence. In …
