Standing Weight Perception Across Unweighted Conditions In A Lower Body Positive Pressure Treadmill, Madison Rees, Matthew Ballesteros, Danielle Toth, Erik Lind, Bryanne N. Bellovary, James F. Hokanson Apr 2022

Standing Weight Perception Across Unweighted Conditions In A Lower Body Positive Pressure Treadmill, Madison Rees, Matthew Ballesteros, Danielle Toth, Erik Lind, Bryanne N. Bellovary, James F. Hokanson

Transformations: Presentation Slides

Lower body positive pressure treadmills (LBPP-TM) provide assistive body weight support to the user by forcing air into an inflatable chamber in which the user is secured. The result of this positive pressure can be experienced as a lift to the user. The degree of chamber air pressure (CAP) determines the amount of supportive lift provided with greater and lesser CAP producing more and less lift, respectively. Exercise studies consistently report lower effort perceptions with greater CAP which suggest a reduced physiological and mechanical strain on the body. What is less well known is the effect on resting perceptions of …

Purpose or Case Report: The purpose of this research was to analyze our institution’s large database of fetal magnetic resonance (MR) for cases of ventriculomegaly in order to understand trends in pre and postnatal MR.
Methods & Materials: In this retrospective study, 316 individual fetal MR exams from the past 10 years at our institution were reviewed. Of those, 86 patients had fetal MRs with findings of either ventriculomegaly or an ordering indication of ventriculomegaly. Our inclusion criteria of a diagnosis of ventriculomegaly (lateral ventricle measured at the trigone on coronal imaging of over 10mm) on fetal MR with a …

Reducing "Treble" With Performance Focused Music Programs In Medical School: A Student Driven Needs Assessment To Clarify Participation Barriers Amongst Undergraduate Medical Students, Alexander Tu, Tiffany Truong, Kristy J. Carlson Phd, Matthew J. Brooks Dma, Jayme R. Dowdall Md Mar 2022

Reducing "Treble" With Performance Focused Music Programs In Medical School: A Student Driven Needs Assessment To Clarify Participation Barriers Amongst Undergraduate Medical Students, Alexander Tu, Tiffany Truong, Kristy J. Carlson Phd, Matthew J. Brooks Dma, Jayme R. Dowdall Md

EMET Projects

Integration of the arts into medical education has numerous benefits, including reducing burnout and producing empathetic physicians. Investment in arts-related activities has expanded considerably. However, funding remains a common limitation for further integration of arts into medical education. Clarifying student preferences and barriers to music programs can optimize such limited resources to best suit medical student needs.

Effective Emodule Design For First-Year Medical Student Anatomy Curricula, Taylor J. Kratochvil Ms, Kaeli K. Samson Ma, Mph, Kari L. Nelson Phd, Travis L. Mccumber Phd

EMET Projects

Introduction: It is critical to evaluate student experience with any newly integrated educational resource. In 2018, a Distal Upper Limb (DUL) Anatomy eModule was developed for first-year medical students at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, who have historically identified the DUL as a region of difficulty. This mixed methods study sought to (1) evaluate learner perception of the eModule relative to other resources, and (2) identify eModule content and features that students found valuable.

Methods: The DUL eModule was made available to first-year medical students in 2019 (n= 132), 2020 (n=131), and 2021 (n=131) as a voluntary, …

Library/Life Sciences Undergraduate Poster Competition 2022

  • Pediatric Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) is characterized by issues of lung growth and development prenatally and postnatally.1
  • COVID-19 causes endothelial dysfunction, hypoxia and vasoconstriction. Children living with PH are especially vulnerable to severe complications from the virus due to these additive affects on a cardiorespiratory system that is already stressed by their underlying disease2
  • Parents/Caregivers of children with PH have a great burden to prevent COVID-19 infection.

High levels of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) above 1000 parts per million can negatively impact cognitive function and decision-making (Bowen et. al). Our study is based on a research article on Indoor Air Quality. If CO2 concentrations get too high, it depletes the oxygen your brain needs.

  • Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a serious and life-threatening disease characterized by an elevation in mean pulmonary artery pressure and pulmonary vascular resistance, leading to right heart failure and death.1,2
  • PH has primarily been studied among adults and therefore clinical therapies have also aimed at treating this population.3-5
  • Several pharmaceutical treatments are available and approved for use in adults, however, the effectiveness among children has yet to be sufficiently determined though they are considered the standard treatment regimen in children.
  • Accessing specialized pediatric PH care providers who are versant in these therapies is difficult.

Effects Of Perceived Racism And Socioeconomic Status On Family Health, Tatiana Pryor, Sariah Villalon, Aliceann Crandall Mar 2022

Effects Of Perceived Racism And Socioeconomic Status On Family Health, Tatiana Pryor, Sariah Villalon, Aliceann Crandall

Library/Life Sciences Undergraduate Poster Competition 2022

Family health is strongly associated with lifelong health and development1 and one’s experiences in childhood may have an impact on their family health in adulthood2. Of the research conducted on family health in the United States, little information can be found that directly discusses health disparities and childhood socioeconomic status as predictors of family health. Recent research shows that current household income is positively associated with family health in adulthood, meaning that SES affects access to care and health practices3.
