Eosinophilic Myocarditis Secondary To Hypereosinophilic Syndrome Vs. Eosinophilic Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis: A Diagnostic Dilemma, Nathan Lavoy, Brian Birnbaum, Julia G. Harris, Aarti Pandya, Allison Taber

Posters

Introduction: Hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) is a rare but detrimental diagnosis in the pediatric population. Cardiac involvement within HES can present as a diagnosis of Eosinophilic Myocarditis which can progress to irreversible damage and potentially death. This case report discusses a 16-year-old male treated for HES, although HES can have overlap with Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (EGPA) and requires a multi-disciplinary approach to patient management. Case Description: The patient was a 16-year-old male, with a history of asthma, presenting with acute onset of chest pain. He was found to have peripheral eosinophilia with an absolute eosinophil count of 11.71. He had …

Occupational Therapy's Role In Transition Planning For Students With Learning Differences And The Significance Of The Kawa Model, Rita Marzeena, Jazminne Orozco-Arteaga, Holly Reed

Fall 2022 Virtual OTD Capstone Symposium

This capstone project seeks to define the role of occupational therapy in supporting a high school to college and career transition program by providing occupation-based interventions for the unique needs of students in the classroom. Using the KAWA Model, the students begin on a journey of self-discovery to identify the individual supports, strengths and barriers that help them to understand the factors that influence their life. In this process, the KAWA Model attempts to merge the holistic approach that is common in the western themes of occupational therapy with the expectations and trajectory that is common of a secondary student …

Zea E-Books Collection

In 2022 we are living through a global pandemic, and vaccines are one of the most effective strategies for slowing the spread of infectious disease, minimizing symptoms, and lowering healthcare demands. In short, vaccines save lives and can reduce the risk of contagion from social interaction.

In the United States in late 2021, after the vaccines had been broadly available for almost a year, one in five adults still chose not to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Art can disrupt what is embedded in our minds and open us up to new perspectives and insights. We hope to offer access to …

Is Nippv Superior To Cpap In Maintaining Targeted Oxygen Saturation Ranges In Preterm Infants On Moderate Non-Invasive Respiratory Support?, Clifford Hegedus, William F. Bucher, Bs, Rrt-Nps, David Carola, Zubairul Aghai

Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine Posters

Background: Non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) are non-invasive respiratory supports commonly used in preterm infants. There is conflicting data on the superiority between these two modes of non-invasive respiratory support. The objective of this study was to determine if oxygen saturation is more within the target range on NIPPV compared to CPAP using the data from histograms.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of premature neonates (< 1500 grams, gestational age < 30 weeks) admitted to the NICU for which oxygen saturation histogram data was available one day before and after the transition between NIPPV and CPAP. FiO2 at the time of data collection was greater than 21 percent. This histogram data, the percentage of time spent in certain SpO2 ranges, was compared before and after the de-escalation from NIPPV to CPAP or escalation from CPAP to NIPPV. FiO2 was additionally compared between the two modes of respiratory support.

Results: A total of 26 infants were included. The median gestational age was 25.5 weeks and the median weight of the infants was 792 grams. Among the 26 infants, there …
