Cutibacterium acnesis a gram-positive anaerobic bacillus which is commonly found in the sebaceous glands of the skin generally in the axilla, chest and back regions1,2.

Shoulder infections have been reported to occur at 3.4% following arthroscopic or open shoulder surgeries, where they are most commonly due to C. acnes3,4.

This case report demonstrates a unique case and management of a subclinical presentation of confirmed C. acnes infection.

Can be one of four types:

The Achilles tendon consists of the soleus muscle and two heads of the gastrocnemius muscle. Loss of its function can result in loss of plantarflexion strength, which can impact activities of daily living. In a study by Scheller et al, Achilles tendon ruptures were missed on initial evaluation on 25% of their patients. Other studies have reported a similar incidence of misdiagnoses. Patients may also delay treatment due to decreased pain after the initial injury. Tuberculosis (TB) from the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosisand candidiasis from the fungus Candida albicansare both opportunistic pathogens with the ability to instigate infections within the larynx with similar clinical features, yet vastly different diagnostic parameters and treatment regimens.

Here, we highlight a case of an Indian woman on immune-modulating drugs who presented with severe laryngeal symptoms initially presumed to be laryngeal candidiasis but was later discovered to be laryngeal tuberculosis.

Hydroxyl radical protein footprinting (HRPF) is a mass spectrometry-based technique for measuring the surface of a protein or protein complex. This method relies on the use of hydroxyl radicals to irreversibly label exposed amino acid side chains in proteins. Although catalase is commonly employed to quench secondary oxidation by catalytic conversion of hydrogen peroxide to oxygen and water, it possesses certain drawbacks. The inclusion of a relatively high concentration of catalase produces interfering peptides after proteolytic digestion, thereby limiting the method's sensitivity due to dynamic range issues and signal suppression. Biomolecular footprinting is well-established for nucleic acids and proteins but lacks a method for carbohydrates. Glycan footprinting could enhance understanding of glycan interactions via mass spectrometry. We verified that CF3 labeled the model trisaccharide NAG3 across the oligosaccharide. We developed a quenching and reduction protocol for improved post-labeling analysis and the first radical covalent footprinting method for complex carbohydrates.

Recent studies have revealed that the primary mechanism of action of yohimbine is as an α2-adrenergic receptor antagonist, affecting fat metabolism, vasodilation, and sympathetic nervous system activity. Background: Due to supply chain challenges, our institution transitioned from Pediatric Quadrox oxygenators to Nautilus oxygenators for neonatal and pediatric extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) patients. During this transition, variations in anticoagulation results were observed with bivalirudin, the first-line anticoagulant, in patients weighing less than 8 kg. This study aimed to evaluate heparin as an alternative anticoagulant in this patient population utilizing Nautilus oxygenators. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 29 neonatal and pediatric ECMO patients (weight range: 2.3–6.1 kg).
