Introduction: Since the COVID-19 pandemic, pediatric psychologists have been at the forefront of telemedicine expansion to ensure access for patients and families to needed mental health services. This has required adaptations across the care continuum – from scheduling to service delivery to documentation. This poster aims to summarize the telehealth (TH) application of a Young Adult IBD Clinic (YAC-IBD) that provides transition preparation to youth with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Methods: In April 2020, the YAC-IBD was converted from in-person visits to a virtual visit format. Since then, 119 youth ages 17-21 (inclusive) have been seen in this clinic. This …

Introduction: Few interventions exist to provide hands-on practice of key health management tasks to youth with special health care needs (YSHCN). The Transition Skills Lab was adapted from Jerlym Porter’s work and piloted as a virtual intervention in YSHCN. Methods: Sixteen young adults participated in the virtual Transition Skills Lab, during which they practiced three key patient competencies pertaining to health care tasks: reading an insurance card, reading a pill bottle label, and scheduling an initial visit with an adult doctor. Participants were then asked to rate their confidence on skills taught within the intervention on a four-point scale from …

Background: Children with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) have higher odds of developing social difficulties and/or an Autism Spectrum Disorder (AuSD) than the general population (i.e., ~10% vs. ~1%). However, there is a paucity of nuanced understanding of specific drivers of the increased rates of AuSD in extant literature. The purpose of this study is to identify the rates of co-occurring cardiac, neurological, and genetic conditions to better understand associated risk factors in a patient sample from a medium-size children’s hospital. Methods: Our population includes a clinically referred sample of children (i.e., medical history of CHD and neurodevelopmental risk) under 18 …

Tattoo Artist Ergonomics: An Educational Video Series, Adeline Wagner, Steven M. Gerardi, Rachel Overberg
Spring 2024 Virtual OTD Capstone Symposium
Individuals who are tattoo artists experience hazards in their workplace by sitting and using repetitive movements for extended periods of time in poor postures and positions. The improper use of ergonomics impacts their daily occupational performance, work productivity, well-being, and overall quality of life. The hazards in the workplace can reduce one’s motivation, dictate one’s habits, routines, roles, and ability to complete meaningful activities. The problem is that tattoo artists are not trained in injury prevention which predisposes them to develop injuries. The purpose of this capstone project is to address this problem and develop an educational video series for …

Teachers and school staff may not recognize or know how to support students who have adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) which can impact the child’s occupational role as a student. To date, a resource for school staff with information on ACEs, interventions, and strategies has not been created. The purpose of this project …
Patient Outcomes With Tele-Emergency Medicine Services In Rural Areas, Andrea Rieder
Patient Outcomes With Tele-Emergency Medicine Services In Rural Areas, Andrea Rieder
Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Posters
The purpose of this literature review was to examine patient outcomes with the use of tele-emergency medicine. Teleemergency medicine serves as a tool to expand the healthcare team in rural facilities by connecting them with specialized providers, typically via video conference call, for assistance in surge or lowstaff situations, or for guidance in more complicated cases that rural providers might typically transfer to a larger hospital. A benefit of adopting a tele-emergency medicine service is that it can shorten time to care and reduce the need for transfers, thereby reducing associated costs. The question arises as to whether patient outcomes …
Comparison Of Cryopreservation Of Ovarian Tissue Versus Cryopreservation Of Oocytes In Fertility Preservation, Madison Nitschke
Comparison Of Cryopreservation Of Ovarian Tissue Versus Cryopreservation Of Oocytes In Fertility Preservation, Madison Nitschke
Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Posters
This literature review aims to compare ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC) and oocyte cryopreservation (OC) as methods for fertility preservation. Electronic health science databases including PubMed, Clinical Key, ScienceDirect, and UpToDate were utilized. Seven articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed for this comprehensive review. This review indicates that both oocyte and ovarian tissue cryopreservation can effectively preserve fertility, however, ovarian tissue cryopreservation is deemed most effective for prepubertal girls at high risk of iatrogenic primary ovarian insufficiency (POI), or women who are unable to postpone gonadotoxic treatment. Ovarian tissue cryopreservation offers advantages that oocyte cryopreservation does not, such as …
