This phenomenological study explored the attitudes of women offenders in jail about Medicaid enrollment and coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This understanding provided insight for jail leadership and other stakeholders to address barriers and incorporate facilitators identified to make it simpler for women offenders to enroll before released from jail.

How Parenting Behaviors Influence Weight And Health Status Of African American Adolescents, Natasha T. Hourel

This quantitative secondary data analysis sought to investigate the relationship between parenting styles and practices of African American mothers and fathers residing both inside and outside of the home on the weight status (as measured by BMI percentile) of their adolescent children. Findings indicate variables beyond parenting practices, such as urban/rural residence, must be considered to explain weight status among adolescents.

Through multiple regression analysis of the NSAL archival data, this study examined how the subjective well-being (SWB) of African American women ages 18-44 (n = 1,877) can be predicted by their age, years of education, household income, number of children, and marital, parental, and employment statuses.

Inadequate sleep may result in physical and cognitive dysfunction. During hospitalization, interruptions from excessive noise, lights, and interruptions contribute to poor quality sleep. Patient and nurse reports of perception of sleep quality differ, with few studies comparing perception to measured quality and quantity of sleep. This non-experimental study compared patient and nurse perception, quality, and quantity of hospitalized medical patient's sleep.

Nurse practitioner (NP) have a wider role in modern stroke centers providing quality evidence based care to patients with both in and outpatient settings for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and transient ischemic attack (TIA) patients. We studies the outcome measures, length of stay (LOS) and cost before and after implementation of nurse practitioners as the primary medical provider in a community based stroke center.

In the fiscal years of 2014 and 2015, 31 out of 66 (47%) catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) were acquired in patients with neurological diagnoses. This led to increased costs, decreased reimbursement, and hospital-acquired condition penalties. A thorough review of CAUTIs revealed 15 of the 31 (48%) were attributed to insertion practices; infections were acquired within 6 days of urinary catheter insertion. Eleven of the 15 (73%) were inserted in the operating room (OR).

Purpose: To explore how task requirements influence reaching in people post-stroke. Subjects: Eleven subjects chronic post-stroke with mild to moderate stroke severity Methods: Participants performed sitting reaching tasks under six conditions: object size (small or large), object location (Right or Left) and speed (slow or fast). Subjects were not instructed how to reach. The number of hands used, arm choice (paretic (P) or nonparetic (NP)), and if they reached contralaterally were recorded. Qualitative self-efficacy data was also collected. Data Analysis: A general estimating equation model was used to calculate odds ratios, controlling for side of weakness and hand dominance. The purpose of this qualitative study was to gather information on individuals whom have contributed in expanding occupational therapy around the states of North Dakota, and Wyoming. The interview contained questions which helped to understand our individuals journey, and the contributions made to influence occupational therapy (OT) around the state of North Dakota. This project was completed through background research and a semi structured interview. The interview was audio recorded and then transcribed verbatim. Objective. The purpose of this life history study was to gather information regarding the history and evolution of occupational therapy (OT) practice in North Dakota and Wyoming. The life history of Lance Norman and his influence in developing OT in North Dakota was one of 29 stories explored.
